Garmin Striker Plus 4cv Review 

My first fishing setup was a soda can, and some fishing line with a weight and hook that I had found on the bank at the creek. My dad took me fishing that day with him and I was so happy. He tied the line on to the can for me and showed me how to cast it. God was watching me that day for as I walked up the creek I found a bobber. To me it was like winning the Lotto. I caught a few grasshoppers and I was off fishing. When I caught my first bluegill I ran over to my dad and he took the fish off the hook for me. As I ran back to my fishing spot I remember feeling like I was on top of the world. I felt like I had turned into a man, even though I was just a first grade kid. So even though we were poor I felt rich that night as we ate the 7 bluegill I caught and the couple catfish my dad caught. To me that day I felt like the happiest, luckiest, and richest boy (man) in the world because I was happy. It's amazing how boats become mini eco systems when on the water. Some amazing videos of fish using ocean rowboats and sailboats as cover from big Marlin and other apex predators.

Thanks for the reviews on the Garmin Striker 4CV & Lowrance Hook 2 5 Splitshot ... any specific comments/suggestions re: one vs the other ... I fish from a kayak if that helps, fishing smaller ponds and lakes and don't really care about having mapping available on the unit... Thx again!

Can you be making the contour maps as you use other features of the unit?

I have that same garmin on my vibe shearwater 125 kayak and use the split screen with traditional/cv if I’m slowly paddling forward and it picks up fish at 6 foot deep of water what directing should I stop the kayak and cast out to? I see the fish but don’t ever latch them I think I may be casting in the wrong direction or casting to far. Everything is set to auto on the garmin please help

It's kinda confusing using a sonar for me because I see the fish on my sonar and I want to drop my anchor and jig but that more than likely will scare fish... So how do you deal with boat drifting away from where you want to fish ? Ps I am not using not want to buy a spot lock for my small 10' Jon boat.

Great video, thank you. I'm completely new to this and I set my striker up, got the transducer mounted. Took it out on the lake, and it was reading but the bottom constantly moved and changed vertically. I just want it to hold like yours and not constantly change. Any ideas?

Nice catch!! Question....how do you know where to cast left right behind or ahead of you by looking at the fish finder? Do you like the Garmin or Lowrance better? I can’t seem to make up my mind for my kayak. thanks for sharing this video!

I "think" I like mine. To be honest, it's my first sonar unit, and I'm still learning how to use it. But my biggest issue seems to be that I don't have the settings tuned correctly. 2D and downscan frequently don't corroborate each other. And the instruction manual is very generic, covering a range of models supporting different features; some of which not avaliable on the Striker Plus 4cv, therefore confusing me at times. I only pull up downscan while moving. That's the only time it makes sense, and it's super easy to identify structure. But when parked or drifting, it's just nonsense to me. My experience with 2D is different from yours, though. It seems just as effective in motion as when still. Perhaps more while moving.

I am looking at getting a fish finder. Should I go for the 5cv as opposed to 4cv. Are they basically the same unit other than the screen size?

What do you mean down scan? Do you mean the clear view the more picture like screen?

Absolute BS! How do you determine where did the fish go (direction) after it was "detected" by the "fish finder" This catches has zero relation with the "fish finder"... what a pointless device! It is only good to determine the depth and to see what the bottom might be looking SOMEWHERE under your boat!
