Figured we'd briefly step away from the kayak rigging series to bring you this small video on the setup and overview of my new fish finder!
We apologize for any blurry or hard-to-see parts of this video, it's very difficult to get the camera to focus on something like this.

Disclaimer: We are new to fish finders and we will be running them for the first time this coming season. We did not mention that the quickdraw map actually maps out the depths of the pond as you move along. Which is a very interesting feature. There are also many features we missed in this tutorial. I brought this item for my kayak was all I could afford at the time but I’m very very happy with it specially the shallow alarm haha because hobie pedals get expensive when you keep smashing the fins into the ground .. I honestly didn’t even realise I can change the screen cos I switch between the 3 screens and clearvu and sounder one cos I like having the fish finder sonar one up most so I’m ganna adjust it to the three like you showed run sounder on top and clearvu and maps down bottom :) thank you guys for this in-depth video

Nice job guys. I have the 7SV waiting to mount on mine. I also pulled the trigger on a motor guide xi3 non gps model. Still haven't bought the 133x yet but it is what ill be buying. I also feel you guys have some big nuts to be drilling all the holes to mount everything lol. That is the thing that makes my the most nervous about the kayak is mounting stuff.

Yeah we make sure to get a waterproof plug then silicone it as well to make sure nothing gets in or out. West marine sells the plugs for like 7 bucks.

Your quick draw will actually map the bottom of your waterway on your maps. So it will not just look like a black screen. You will have to go into setting to start the quick draw. So it is gps set up.

Once on map hit the three line button, it will show you where to turn on quick draw. Just bought this myself so I had to figure it out myself. Tight lines.

You will find that on that small of a screen using multiple views at the same time the details will be so small it will be harder to determine what it is actually showing on your screen. Best to pick the one view you want to use at the time and display only that view on the screen.

Is there a way to change the color pallete pf the clearvu on this? I can't stand the Black/blue color on the demo I was looking at.

I commented on your other comment. But I sold the unit and don’t remember what I ran. I believe the scroll was set to auto. But that’s going to depend on what works best for you.

Probably would have been a better quality video if it wasn't shot in a darkroom? Might be better for your eyes but a camera will just over expose anything bright if the surroundings are dark. Other than that ,very informative

I have this device but I don't have the clearvu options? Do you know why? I have the gt8 transducer. Garmin website says mine has clearvu but it doesn't. What gives? I have the Garmin 5cv..... Exact same as yours...

It’s because of the gt8. Is yours the ice fishing kit? That’s the transducer that kit comes with, as those features aren’t necessary for ice fishing. This one comes with the gt20 which is the boat/standard kit.

@@UntamedOutdoorsmen got it, thanks for the reply, I talked to the Garmin guy and he told me same. The clearvu isn't for ice fishing and can't really use the gt20 for ice fishing so . But would there be a reason to use clearvu for ice fishing? Do people do it? Are there other units that are doing it?

I personally can’t think of a reason to use it. It probably won’t even work right for ice fishing. I’m sure people have done it but it isn’t very practical. The gt8 is a great ice fishing setup.

I have a 24ah lithium ion battery for this but it also runs all the small accessories as well. It’ll run the fish Finder continuously for at least 36 hours no problem on that battery. This unit uses like 0.4 amps per hour so anything in the 10ah range would be plenty.

I always get the error saying check sonar or sonar disconnected and it trows me out of the fish finder all connections are good no corotion or anything and it won't read past 100feet 30meters

I sold it about a year ago. But if I remember correctly, it does save it. Don’t quote me on that tho

It saves everything you chose to record(map/contours) so you only map areas you want to. You just can't preload the maps like others. So yea it saves everything you chose.

Theres a menu that you can open when you're actually in the traditional sonar screen. I believe it shows it there.

There is a volt meter on the Garmin unit but I don’t have a proper percentage meter. I’ve just been using my head to give a rough idea on battery life throughout the fishing day.
