Garmin Vector 3 Power Meter Firmware Update 3.80 // Lots of Fixes! 

After 2 failures and returns that was enough. 2 years on Assioma, trouble free.

I think if I were looking for power pedals I'd still go Assioma. Appears they are several hundred AU$ less than the Vector 3s and are very dependable

Concur on the single battery per side. Made the change a month ago and many issues were resolved; most notably the dropouts as you mentioned. Thx for the battery lead on the single approach. Good stuff.

I was using assioma uno. Suddenly, the Garmin Vector 3 dual leg power meter began to roll out at an affordable price. And after hearing the update and the news that everything was stable, I confirmed plans to address the warning message that the right pedal sensor is missing and bought the product. The tragedy begins here. The smart trainer was calibrated with assioma uno. thinkrider x5 is a product made in China. I wanted to upgrade to assioma duo, but it was more expensive than I thought. I should have bought it with duo from the beginning, but I didn't have enough money so I just bought it with uno. I'm not selling it right now, but I just think of something to use. I wanted to see the balance of both feet, and I tried to analyze the pedaling by looking at Garmin's cycle dynamics. A warning message about the absence of the right pedal sensor occurred immediately, but it was solved by applying energized grease. and There is a phenomenon that the average power is measured 20w less than that of assioma uno. so When installing the pedal, the washers were removed and reassembled. But after doing a zwift wiringer workout, I fell into frustration again. When I compared the data with the previous assioma exercise, It measures 20 watts less of a workout with a higher watt than before. The cadence was similar, and the sprint at that time was 500w and now 525w. If the trainer is a problem, the previous assioma results should also come out that way, but Vector 3 is frustrating because it doesn't. As a used product, there is no way. sad. Goodbye to my assioma~ Finally, I have to test it with a precise trainer. Would it be okay to test it with the Elite Dribbo Trainer?

2 years with Assioma Duo and totally no issues what so ever. And even have advanced dynamics with my Fenix 3 and Edge 830

I have those Vector 3 pedals for almost 2 years now. They are a real pain and the Support (at least in Germany) is a slap in your face. I will never ever buy a Garmin product again!

Had Assioma DUO's for 2 years now, not an ounce of trouble. Have an 830 and prior to that a 520 head unit and although the head units function, phone connectivity and garmin connect are so flaky its laughable... but the faveros they chug and chug and chug along.

Firmware upgrade was pushed, sadly *after* my indoor ride. I left 1030 and the pedals as they were with the bike on the trainer and went for a shower and I believe a few beers. The next morning I took the bike off the trainer for an outside ride and had 1% battery on the 1030 left. 😢 Better check that it shuts down next time.

after update, there was no issues, prior to upadate most of my issues was power meter unlinking, but after upadate, no issues, also tested the on my MTB

Even though a new pair of Garmin Vector 3 may not have any of the problems you have shown I am still a little nervous about buying a pair.

Great video, unfortunately have to agree about the Assioma DUO. I got mine on eBay for aound 600usd brand new never opened

On my third set of Garmin vector 3; even changed the battery to the CR1/3N. Right power sensor still problematic. Just ordered a set of Favero Assioma. Hope it will be reliable.

Bought these hoping the issues had been resolved; they haven't. They came with two sets of replacement battery doors, which I installed along with brand new batteries (also supplied). Firmware updated to 3.80 via GC app. Initial experience was terrible, the batteries supplied in the pedals were nearly dead (however app reported "good", but they would disconnect about 10s after being detected). I am suspicious how old these pedals are, given they had 3.60 firmware as supplied. I am curious if I even received the new-new battery doors from 2020-03. First ride (~3hrs) worked mostly fine, except for when I stopped for ~3mins half way. Seems this was long enough for the pedals to sleep, or lose connection, and then promptly report a 1326W spike as soon as I started moving. It defies belief that they don't clip these obviously incorrect spikes on re-connection; no power would be much better than that. They are going back, and I will be using my reservation for the Assioma which just came available yesterday (I should have waited the extra few days).

Hi Shane, Evening from London. Purchased the vector 3 earlier today and went through the install process. Initial install went ok until battery’s said to low to to the update!! Changed batteries. Started the 3.80 firmware update which went through its process, updated via Garmin connect. Green flash on pedals 20 times but the app stayed on progress screen. Went back and also shut down app and reopened. Every time it says update available but the pedals on edge 530 say version 3.8 is on the pedals! Does this mean the update is complete or not as it still available on my Garmin connect!!! Also can you change the 3second power average to actual live power? Be great if you could assist! That's great that there are fixes, but you're a tech savvy guy. Im older and barely operate a computer. Even still many people just want something that they can put on and it works, without need to find fixes, etc.

After many, many problems with the Vector 3s I sent them back and got the Powertap P1 pedals and no problems in 18months. Garmin... why would you?

Anyone feel the Assioma pedals spin too much when unclipping? They seem to spin a few times and make it a little hard to clip back in without looking. They’d be a perfect 5 for me if not for that.

my NDS V-3 pedal operates as a V-3s. the DS V-3 pedal gives 3 green flashes, and when pedaled single-footed, gives no power on the Fenix 5. i assume that it needs that connection to the NDS pedal in order to transmit to the Fenix 5.

Shane I need your wisdom. Just purchased a pair of Vector 3 (used). I need to update the firmware but they wont connect to my cellphone ( same issue you had on your original video review) and I don't have a Garmin computer, I use the Wahoo Bolt. Shane, I notice on your lama test yesterday you said you had ANT drop outs? Was this on the Garmin Vector pedals? I did the firmware update and to be honest, I’ve never had more drop outs! I certainly had the odd “right pedal missing”, but nothing as bad as this. Have you had further issues since this update? Any help most appreciated.

Are the new updated battery caps for these pedals supplied free from garmin? What is the part number for the latest ones? thanks.

After trying to update from my phone several times never succeeding I got them updated from my Edge 1030 somehow. Now garmin connect states i have 3.60 and my edge 3.80. But worst of all they can only hold connection for a few seconds before phone or edge losses connection and can't see them.

it seems I'm the only one who has no Problems with the vectors. Had to change the original batteries. Since then they are fine. I think I'll try the cr1 when the actual are discharged.

Return the Garmin and get the Assioma. Better and cheaper too!

Anyone know if there has been any hardware revision to the Vector 3 since introduction? $500 for used pair on eBay seems like a pretty good deal if new batteries and a firmware update are all that is needed to get them fully functional and accurate. However, if any of the previous issues required a hardware spec revision mid-lifecycle, that would be a real concern with buying used.

just to summerise what you are saying: larger batteries, new caps and current update 3.8 and issues with vectors are massively reduced but not gone. respectively assioma are still more reliable than vector 3?

Can the Vector 3 be used with the Garmin Connect App by itself?

Hi Shane, have there been general accuracy issues with Garmin Vector 3's aside from dropouts, power spikes, battery cap issues etc ? My pedals are reading about 20-25W lower than my Elite Direto Smart Trainer.

I was able to return my pedals under ACL. So many issues faced, so unreliable. The faveros seem quality though from all reports

It's now 2020 and reports of problems seem less frequent. I have the option to buy a new pair in a sale £100 less than Assiomas. Is it safe to buy the Vectors in 2020?

Is the Shimano conversion kit available yet for the vector 3's?

Can you use the SPD-SL cleats with the Assiomas? If not, can you put Look cleats on a shoe that uses SPD-SL cleats? I'm thinking about using either Giro, Bontrager, or Lake shoes with the Assiomas. I'm asking here, because it seems like the Vector 3 isn't as well rounded as the Assiomas. Thanks.

Always think maybe - two sets of Assiomas- 20K and NO ISSUES and lighter not sure why I would even try a Garmin

Hi Shane, Garmin connect app currently says my pedal firmware is "up to date" with 3.60. With no option to update to 3.80. Running a wahoo headset so seems app is the only way to update. Any ideas why garmin connect isn't showing 3.80? Thanks in advance

Unrelated question Shane, but is there a way in zwift to change world's without exiting the program completely? My computer jumped ahead and opened up the scheduled world but I wanted to ride in watopia. My computer is very slow so it was inconvenient to exit altogether and re-open from the start. But I saw no other alternative.

Hi Shane, I just bought these pedals...the vector 3s ...so power only from the left. Power keeps dropping to 0 almost ever 10 to 20 seconds...then comes back then drops to 0, I'm so upset and have no idea what to do anymore....got the new firmware update, battery doors are the new ones and used the baby oil trick and it's all the same, please help am I missing something?

Unless you received these Vector 3 for free, there's absolutely NO reason to buy this product when Assioma DUO are better, far more reliable and cheaper. I made the mistake of buying a pair of Vector 3 when they came out, couldn't return or resell them, so they went into the trash bin.

Garmin... we want you to pay 900 usd for power pedals.... oh btw you get to problem solve them for us good luck.... garmin is crap

Got 2 set off Garmin they are shit,got my money back..I have 2 p2max never a problem wit them

My 4th pair is comming, what a trash this power meter are. Might be better to garmin leave this market, its a shame how many problems they give.
