Great tutorial Greg especially on how you fitted the connector using the little screw (that's what the green tape was holding in btw). subbed you and regards from the UK.

Thanks for the video. I have a Zumo 660 I want to connect to my FJR. But not a permanent splice mount. But I was concerned about battery drain if direct connect. Removing the GPS when not in use is no problem at all for me in order to preserve battery power. Kudos!

So you connected power directly to battery without problem? I’m just afraid to drain my battery while bike is unused. I thought to connect positive to brake light, but I’m not good with wires. Would like to hear your advice, thanks!

Thanks - nicely done. I just got a Zumo 396 (basically the same), and when I removed that little piece of green tape from the back of the cradle (like you did), a tiny screw popped out that the tape had been holding in....

Seems so long ago that I installed that GPS (i definitely still use it) but I can't remember a screw being there. What is it for?

I don't know - I'm too lazy and pressed for time, so I paid the shop around the corner to install it for me, lol!, but when I was unboxing, I noticed it.

Jon Trimble I used to always just use my phone as my gps but I’ll never not have a unit like this. Easy to use even with gloves on. Super glad I bought it. Will now only use my phone for other things and some special apps that I may use while riding. Enjoy!

I just installed one today. The screw holds the power cable secure to the garmin mount.

whats the mount and the case for your iphone. this is the minimal solution i'm looking for! the regular navs are too bulky for me!

Any info on the mount you are using? Looking for this style mount for Nuvo 395LM.

I bought the whole setup from GPScity and it came with everything including the mount. Which is awesome. All I know is that the mount is a RamMount. You should be able to go to either RamMount's website or GPScity and find the mount there.

Thanks so much. When you take the Zumo from mount, there is not possible to drain the charge, I think so.

When the gps is removed there is no drain. A device has to pull power. Since there is no device connected there is no power drain. I’ve been using this setup for over a year with no issues.

I would think so. I always make sure to take my Zumo off of the mount when not riding. As I'm a little worried that the battery will drain. The bonus of having the mount is how fast you can attach and remove the Zumo.

What is a shortfall is the fact I have a USB port on my bike but can’t plug into the Garmin because the cradle covers the USB input . 😖. I have an old Magellan and can use the USB to charge it when I’m riding.
