I actually really like this stuff. I liked it enough to go back and help myself to a second serving of it. Most of it is solid enough to get some slabs out of and even in its raw state it's really pretty.
You can find lots of really interesting rocks and minerals just like this just sitting in the public right of way if you start training your eye to look for things as you drive around and couple that with some of the geological research that we have talked about many times on this channel.
Thanks for watching.

This stuff is all over my mom's property. I'd love to send you some. It's blue, purple, green, yellow, orange. I'm new to this hobby and have metamorphic outcrops galore to explore and research. yay!

In VT it's mostly used for crushed stone material on gravel roads. Our garnets are pea-sized and well formed. They wont release from the host rock like a mica schist would (also common on the roads here), but it can be used to make garnet sand; an abrasive material for tumbling/polishing.

Ya know if the materials your making coasters out if is brittle then you just brush on a few layers of clear epoxy resin to firm it up and seal it together. Put a felt backing and boom coaster or pen set. Just put a nice polish on the stone as much as possible first then polish up the epoxy finish once it's all dry. :) And I agree, the pink and black is beautiful. That is for sharing your adventure.

That's interesting I have never worked with clear epoxy resin to bond thigns together but that sounds like a fun project.

I’m excited to do a second trip to Montana this summer for rocks and fossils of the Cretaceous period. We are going to do a trip to places to dig fossils and bones at Baisch's Montana Dinosaur Digs,Paleo prospector and the Montana Dinosaur Center | Bynum, Montana. Crazy enough that you can find limestone sea floor and other tiny fossil’s and fauna rolling down the Missouri River in Montana. Best place for a cheap trip is to talk to the individual who owns the blue jewel mine over on the Eldorado Bar.

@@CurrentlyRockhounding I ask because a cool stone cab would make a great soft shutter button top for a camera. ETSY has some nice ones that use rocks of all sorts. The appeal is aesthetic but also a grounding of sorts.
