After seeing how strong Marco was in wano and the way Garp Easley handled him in marinford makes it very clear Garp is unimaginably strong and just think what he was in his prime.

The moment between Roger and Garp in impel down is one of the most intense pieces of storytelling in the whole series.

My headcannon is that Garp had Dragon raised like a marine/to become a vice-admiral so he was a lot more involved with Dragon but when Dragon left and came back later on with Luffy I think that’s when Garp made the decision to step back, have them find their own sense of justice and hopefully it leads them to being marines

In my opinion this is the best written character in all of One Piece. A man who personifies the moral ambiguity of his world, who was present in some of the most important events in history, one of the selected few who know the true story of the world, seen as an unstoppable hero, and yet, when it matters most, he can´t do a thing. The scene between him and Dadan after Ace died had me screaming.

I have also wondered about it a few times how Garp reacted to Sabo's death. First, did Garp consider him as his grandson? It's just as everyone thinks, the answer to that is no, because There was not much time them to interact. They moved out of Dadans house shortly after Sabo joined, for the sole reason that Garp was going to kill them. Besides Sabo never considered him any more than Luffy's and Ace's grandfather. It was clear from the way he used to talk about him. However, Garp did acknowledge that Luffy and Ace consider him as their brother just after told once and treated him the same as he treated Luffy and Ace when it came to knocking some sense into them, which was probably the only most elaborate interaction between Garp and his grandsons If Sabo was alive it would have stayed this way. They would have developed a kind of formal relationship, where they both come to respect each other. I don’t think Sabo could’ve become this important to Garp that easily. Luffy is his real grandson and Garp has raised Ace since he was a child. So for Sabo who had joined much later and not to mention whenever and they had met he would have gotten beaten by him and Sabo would have left on his own Pirate Journey after a few years so I don’t think there would be time to consider Sabo as his grandson. How Garp reacted to Sabo's death? We know that there was not much interaction between Garp and Sabo. They have only met only once utmost. But still. Garp would be saddened when he would have heard about it. Of course, he would be, he is a kind man and hearing about the death of a child would have made him sad. He knew that Sabo was important for Luffy and Ace, he knew that they must have suffered deeply because of his death. He would be sad at their loss. Moreover, he would be saddened because of the loss of a young child in such a horrid way, especially by the hands of the celestial dragons. Dadan would have told him. Probably he would be a little disappointed and angry too in this case. His reaction would be like how he would react at the death of an acquaintance like someone from Dadan family. It would be brief. It would be nothing like at the death of Ace. ,…………………… Now flashforward present, there is still more for Garp and Sabo as right now they are both at Reverie. Even if Sabo and Garp were not that close, Sabo could become more important now because he would remind him of Ace, he would feel like Ace lives on through him, just like Law kind of became important to Sengoku because of Corazon. Sabo might also receive some unexpected help from Garp because he couldn’t save Ace and he knows that he is the only brother left for Luffy. Regardless, I am living for the moment when they interact at reverie. It's going to be interesting.

Pretty much none of that established titles stuff is true. For one, they are considered souvenir plots, and those don't confer a title (or actual ownership). Additionally the plots are in what is already protected land (as far as lumber rights). And so on.

I honestly have a very low opinion on Garp. Perhaps his greatest moment was saving Ace as a baby and ensuring he'd be raised out of the sight of the world government. Otherwise he is what I'd consider to be a big coward because he chooses to follow what is easy, being punching pirates, over what is just since he is well aware of the great evils of the world government and Marines yet still decides to be apart of them in a so far very inactive role politically. At least Kuzan eventually realized this and left to do whatever he felt was a better way to make a difference in the world.

Then when in the marines, did dragon also have his own encounters with authorities like Morgan and so Lucci who abuse their title for their own bloodlust and ambitions? Did dragon work his way up and only discover more corruption the higher he went and the more missions he did? I get that Oda only had him wear a dog mask so that people wouldn't guess that he's Luffy's grandpa before the big reveal, but even his ship is themed around that dog mask, so why is it no longer prevalent? It's admittedly minor, but I still found it odd.

I wish they built more on Garp’s story. He’s one of my favorite characters in one piece, and he has the most potential to higher up/equal the marine/pirate likeness in the anime. I feel the marines are underrated, he could easily change that though
