Part 4: • Garrett Morris on Not ...
Part 6: • Garrett Morris: Richar...
--------
In this clip, Garrett Morris revealed that he and deceased actor John Belushi were not only colleagues but also good friends for a few years. However, their friendship was strained when Belushi's new manager, whom Morris believes was racist, started to meddle in their relationship. Morris feels strongly that this manager played a significant role in blocking opportunities for him after he left Saturday Night Live, leading to a period of struggle in his career where the actor was forced to appear in numerous horror films. Having faced racial discrimination, Morris gained substantial roles again when the unnamed manager passed away, and he got involved with shows like "The Jeffersons," "Martin," and later worked with Jamie Foxx.

Not entirely. Garrett had a serious coke problem. Mind you, he was partying with Belushi and you know how Belushi ended up. Garrett was for a lack of a better word....a token on snl. He signed up to originally be a writer but they felt his sketches were up to par. Richard Pryor brought his own writers ( Paul mooney) to SNL cuz he thought Garrett was a token. Eddie Murphy said when he got to SNL , he was careful not to be " Garret Morris" on the show. Murphy almost lost " 48 Hours" cuz Nick Nolte heard through a 3rd Party that the " black guy " from SNL was an addict so Nich was gonna do the movie until it was cleared up that Murphy and Garrett were 2 different people. Garret had drug issues throughout his career even when on Martin. That's how he got fired. That burglary may have been drug related.

@@blackturkdog Belushi's problems were of his own. Now could he have thrown Morris under the bus? I dunno. Be that as it may, people in that circle do have a way of twisting or manipulating narratives to fit the situation. As far as Garrett being a "Token" there's no running from that, but look who ran the show and the network? Do you think at that time there were going to have multiple writers or even performers of color, especially Black People? Up until his death, Belushi continued to still get work and his manager and his colleagues knew he was on drugs so that just sounds like hypocrisy to me. Todd Bridges used drugs and gets sober, he barely gets a break. Robert Downey Jr uses drugs and gets sober, IRON MAN. When it comes to Black Talent, if we slip up or if there's a hint of it, that's that. White Talent can have as many chances because look who runs the show?

John Adam Belushi (/bəˈluːʃi/; January 24, 1949 - March 5, 1982) was an American comedian, actor, and musician. He was one of the seven original cast members of the NBC sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live (SNL). Throughout his career, Belushi had a personal and artistic partnership with his fellow SNL star Dan Aykroyd, whom he met while they were both working at Chicago's Second City comedy club. Born in Chicago to Albanian-American parents, Belushi started his own comedy troupe with Tino Insana and Steve Beshekas, called "The West Compass Trio". After being discovered by Bernard Sahlins, he performed with The Second City and met Aykroyd, Brian Doyle-Murray, and Harold Ramis. In 1975 Chevy Chase and Michael O'Donoghue recommended Belushi to SNL creator and showrunner Lorne Michaels, who accepted him as a new cast member of the show after an audition. Belushi developed a series of characters on the show that reached great success, including his performances as Henry Kissinger and Ludwig van Beethoven. After his breakout film role as Bluto in National Lampoon's Animal House (1978), Belushi appeared in films such as 1941, The Blues Brothers, and Neighbors. He also pursued interests in music: with Aykroyd, Lou Marini, Tom Malone, Steve Cropper, Donald "Duck" Dunn, and Paul Shaffer, he founded The Blues Brothers, which led to the film of the same name. Belushi struggled with heavy drug abuse that threatened his comedy career; more than once, he was dismissed from SNL due to his behavior (and then rehired). In 1982, he died from combined drug intoxication at the age of 33, after a drug dealer, Cathy Smith, injected him with a mixture of heroin and cocaine (known as a speedball) at the Chateau Marmont. He was posthumously honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2004. Source Wiki
