Garry ( Jimmy) jack, is my all time favourite player,, no other fullback could break the first line of defence like jack could,,and his ferocious defence is the toughest I've ever seen from a fullback,, if you were going to war he's the first bloke u want along side u in the trenches, absolutely one of the greatest players of all time,, thanks for the memories,, 😁 👍

Jack was possibly the greatest Fullback ever! He had a ferocious attack and his cover defence was in a class of its own, he always knew exactly where to be on the field.

Back then he was my favorite player. He did a great tackle on Ellery Hanley. EH was steam rolling down the sideline running straight at the camera when suddenly Jack takes him clean out just like that.
Garry was certainly a very reliable fullback. Fast and tough, he could turn on the speed at a whim. Wish you had some of the footage from his Balmain days! Great player. He and Garry Belcher were great Australian fullbacks...along with Lockyer, Eadie and a few others I'm sure I've forgotten

Better footballer than Locyer. Look at the cover defence. Just classic. You don't see it much now.Jack and Mortimer. The last great cover defenders. The best skill in Rugby League. A game that has gone down hill.
No disgrace losing in a brawl with Roberts who towered over Jack & most backs. Yeah Jack was restrained from defending himself by the other Manly players. From memory Tiger brawler Steve Roach was not playing in that game...a pity, cabanossi v blocker would have been a fairer fight.

Jack was alot tougher & more fearless than lockyer, yes lockyer may had more skills than Garry ( Jimmy) but jack was faster & more courageous, and put his body on the line everytime Wether it was for the mighty balmain tigers :-) or for nsw or Australia, legend, john Martin Sydney
Sorry, Gary Jack, was tough as nails but his skill level was appalling for a test fullback. He could not pass left to right, once he made a break he raley linked up.

Mate,, absolute nonsense,, jack had a many skills, that made him a wonderful test player, if jack didn't have any skills according to you fella! He wouldn't have received the 1987 addidas golden boot, for the finest player in the world,, wake up!
John Martin he was the best 'old fashioned' fullback I've seen, i'll take my criticism back because fullbacks before him didnt need kicking skill or linking skills with his passing. When Belcher came along the fullback slotting into 5/8 as an option as second kicker or as a second focal point to launch an attack became a potent tactic, and this lineage can be seen from Belcher to Lockyer thru to Slater and todays no 1. I'll still stand by my criticisms on his left to right passing, he was awful, and his tactical kicking was non existent except for the boot down field as far as he could tactic.
John Martin ps he had skills, his tackling was the best of a no 1 i've seen, borderline criminal though some of those late shots on the pass and draw victim who happened to make a break tho, it got to a point where players would pass early to avoid being drilled. He was awesome at coming into the backline, he timed his runs perfectly, and when he ran he ran harder than anyone, maybe thats why he won the best player 1987.
Chris Hooper dude, did i criticise his defence or his high ball skills or his chiming in? No, just his left right passing ( which was at Royce Simmons level bad) and his lack of tactical kicking. Dont freak out.
