The Garvey Style skiff is one of the best uses of the standard sheets of plywood. The length is two sheets long and one sheet wide. Marine grade 3/8" Okoume plywood, 17 ounce fiberglass biaxial weave, and epoxy resin are the primary build materials. I sold my original Garvey style skiff shown at the beginning built by my father, and bought at cost when I graduated. I sold it to a friend just to get the money together to build this one and learn how to build a boat from my father...
This was my first boat, built under the supervision of my father at his place of work, Jim Smith Tournament Boats. I have to thank my father for giving me the love of the water, fishing, and boats, not to mention his guidance in building my new skiff. I also have to thank John Vance for allowing me build the boat at the shop, giving me quick access to any and all materials, tools, and equipment to make it possible. Given the time and cost, it isn't really cheaper than buying a hull like my Saltmarsh 1444 from a dedicated builder like Ankona...
