Sure Holt is better, and Exodus and Slayer are my lifeblood....but Kirk wrote the main riff to Enter Sandman, a song I cannot stand but made Metallica Millions of dollars by itself. The old person on me wants the millions of dollars over the amazing thrash. Call me a sellout. I don't care. I want to live the good life lol
At the time it was right, kirk taught Gary alot at the beginning, but I would love to see him in Metallica at some point, kirk may get atharitis or loose a hand in a surfing accident, shark bite or something 😊
I agree now but at the time Kirk was a better player. Hell I remember having to explain to some people that Gary was better guitar player than king or hanneman
Gary RIPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have nothing against Metal ... but Gary here is the perfect example of a very bad solo/lead guitarist who actually fools laymen (people who do not and/or never played) into thinking "WOW man, this guy can really shred!!!" No, he can't.
HA😅! LOOK & LISTEN TO WHAT GARY CONSIDERS THE LEAD FOR ANGEL OF DEATH ( JEFF'S PART) - squibble, squibble, squibble, etc. then hold the guitar in the air by the tremolo bar...WOW!😕👎 SHOW SOME RESPECT FOR JEFF AND HIS SONGS!
Brian Carpenter You know what’s funny to me? Jeff would disapprove of your comments here, you expect Holt to play EXACTLY like Jeff and it’s ridiculous. You say he should have some respect? You should have some fucking respect, sit down asshole
the recorded angel of death solo is TERRIBLE. Slayer solos have always turned me off, Holt’s rendition is wayyyy better while keeping the chaotic tremolo picking and whammy bar use that Slayer is known for. Like the other comment said, Jeff would actually disapprove of your opinion because him and Gary go way back. Gary Holt is no random dude filling in a spot, he’s a thrash legend and a riff MACHINE and can SHRED some bad ass solos, you ever heard of this one band called Exodus??
I hate how he disrespects Jeff Hanneman! Gary Holt has NEVER played with passion or even tried to play Jeff's parts correctly. He just fast picks at random notes. Any stand-in guitarist could have just stood there bobbing his head & butcher Jeff's work!
Vincent States - WHAT's WRONG with that? THIS is "what's wrong" with that: Gary Holt had nothing to do with those songs when they became Slayer songs. Not when they had written, practiced, rehearsed for playing live, actually played live at early gigs, learned by the fans, loved by the fans (& band members) recorded in the studio, made an official Slayer song, released on an album, and played hundreds, if not thousands of times in different cities around the world before he came along originally only to "fill-in" for the ailing, original co-founding guitarist & primary dominant lyric & music writer of the brand since it's inception as a band in 1981. Jeff was not slacking off, disinterested, playing poorly, have any friction with the guys, on the verge of leaving, wanting to quit & move on, OR ANYTHING LIKE that! He wasn't being reprimanded by the other band members & the guys certainly didn't have any animosity towards him nor did any of them start to dislike him .... and he damn sure wasn't fired or "let go". Furthermore, Gary Holt had eventually gone from helping out with a few gigs to gradually becoming a full time member- ONLY BY DEFAULT, due to Jeff's increasingly detrimental, & debilitating health issues and eventually succumbing to his unexpected death. NOBODY decided Jeff's out of the band, and said, "we want Holt to take Hanneman's place because he's better musician, writer and a better fit as "Slayer's guitarist (1 of the 2)", did they? Where does Gary get to assume the role that it is HIS BAND now, he can play & change songs where he sees fit? I mean, it's not like he ever even left Exodus to join SLAYER, (not unlike Kirk Hammet did w Exodus - and not until AFTER Dave was officially booted out of that "one band"). Gary was initially just simply assisting in Jeff's absence, due to health issues. I mean, after all, they wouldn't allow him to even write anything on the last album, "Repentless" ...and he was even a "member" of the band already (following the passing of Mr. Hanneman, of course). Now, I can and do appreciate his willingness and ability to keep Slayer going with touring and whatnot when they needed someone. But this, he took it too far.... That's how I think he was disrespectful. *I'm sorry for the lengthy comment, but you did ask the question.😎👍 -lol-
@@VileSinner666 btw, you said he's just doing his OWN thing, nothing wrong with that. Sure, if it's during one of HIS songs or he wants to do a separate solo outside of a Slayer song, he can have a segment that he get's to play at his hearts content. Actually that would be cool & I would surely welcome it, appreciate it, hopefully be in awe of his talent & really enjoy & get into it. But not cut out portions of an original Slayer song & add his own in it's place. Do you see the huge banner right behind him? It says SLAYER all across it, and so do the tickets that the fans bought, not " & Special Guest guitarist Gary Holt". It says Slayer bc IT IS SLAYER that they want to hear. Again, Gary can show off and do whatever he likes, so long as "what he likes" is not re-writing songs in some random, sloppy new way, that's all.
