yes! he's not trying to be mean or racist at all, it's part of the story, and personally I think the story is better with the inclusion of the accent, it allows me to picture it even better in my mind.

Garry was born in Leicester which has a very large Indian population due to the clothing weaving and linen trade abundant in that area. He would have grown up listening to the Indian accent which is what he replicated really well, any implications of racism for this replication is borne of a sick mind, one that only see's ill for the sake of it.
Yes great I've had lots of great times like that ,but like him I'm now paying the consequences as I'm another recovering alcoholic and my bus took me to hell and back ,and it still picks me up sometimes to remind me of the journey and still gives me plenty of problems even now
