When you have someone setting the pace for you for two laps, that's two fewer laps where your brain is working overtime. A rabbit is not an inconsequential in a race for time. And it also brings up the fact that the Newbury boys feed off each other in a race, enabling these elite runners to achieve more than they would on their own.
