The thing about Gary Moore is that he had more heart than the metal players and more technique than the blues players and that's what made him so blisteringly soulful.
He never had a scandal in his life, so maybe thats why is so unknown. I know lots of friends never heared of him either. But at least in every serious Top20 of worlds best guitar players he is on the list.
I know I wrote he only plaed on one album, I saw Lizzy live in 77 with Gary replacing Robbo so I definetely dont need a history lesson by you@moorewilliam4193
The word genius is banded around far too easily, but in Gary Moore we really did have genius.....I had the privilege of seeing him live a few times with "Lizzy",....solo and with his band G force......everytime he was absolutely amazing.....note perfect.....genius.
Yes, this is one of his many Gibson Les Paul, you know your stuff, 😂 And he was for about 35 years in possession of a very very special Les Paul called “Greeny”, a 1959 Les Paul Standard, which had a very unique sound. If you wanna see both in action and confirm that then check out “The Messiah will come again”, live in Montreaux 1990. An absolute masterpiece!
@@andersjohansson4734 yes, I believe you’re right. Most of these reactors, although not all THAT young, probably don’t even know who Peter Greene is, particularly the fact that he is one of the founding fathers of Fleetwood Mac, so yes. Greeny is the guitar that Peter Greene sold Gary Moore for about 50 bucks when Gary was about 16 and he generously named the guitar after one of his biggest influences and even made a tribute album with it in 1995 called “Blues for Greeny”
best guitarist....EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! R.i.p. Gary🙏🙏

R.I.P Gary Moore - This Irish boy was one of the greatest guitar players of all time. This song makes me cry every time as it was one of my cousin's favourite tracks. When he died all to early (44 years old) his daughter sang this acapella with only an acoustic guitar in the church - No eyes left dry at that point.
The fast notes are impressive and Gary really knew how to contrast the slow with the quick. But it’s those high bends where Gary really excels. To play a les Paul right at the top of the neck with that control and clarity requires fingers of steel! The man was oozed the blues and he is one out of the box, never to be repeated. RIP Gary Moore!
Gary's guitar wept it's eyes out. One of my top 3 favorite players. There are many with extreme skills, but Gary had a way to make it emotional. RIP Gary.
Gary Moore RIP, Possibly the best minor key Blues player ever, AND that guitar was given to him by Peter Green, so it has a very special sound as the pick ups are out of faze. This tune is perhaps one of my favourites too.
Gary Moore was one of the greatest guitar players I have seen. I was still in school in the earlier 2000's and a friend of mine introduced me to this guy from the video VHS of the wild frontier concert. All I gotta say is, WOW. 🤘
Saw him lots of times live. Always gave 100 pst and then some. No one will ever play with more fire, emotion and feeling than Gary Moore. He is/was a big name everywhere but the US. Especially in Europe. But among american musicans, he is well known. Big inspiration for people like Joe Bonamassa and Kirk Hammett from Metallica even owns Garys 1959 Les Paul. Go with Empty Rooms live from Stockholm in 1987. Fantastic performance.
Empty Rooms may just be even more emotional than Still Got the Blues. Good Choice, it's definitely a truly beautiful song. Too many true legends go unnoticed and forgotten ... Gary, Glen Hughes, Mark Lanegan, David Byron, Tommy Bolin. I'm truly surprised how many people have just began discovering Yes, Genesis and The Moody Blues. I'd always thought talent like that would never go unnoticed, it seems I was wrong.
Another clip you have to check out: Gary Moore joining George Harrison from the mid-90s doing "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". This was one of George's last public performances (perhaps his last), & you can tell that he really enjoyed being on-stage with Gary. GH was generally not very animated while playing live, but his face was filled with child-like joy watching Gary do one of the guitar solos.
As someone allready said. "The messiah will come again" or "Parisienne walkways" is where you should go next. This was my favourite song live until I heard those. Go for the Montreux jazz festival live versions 😊
Gary Moore's song Empty rooms was something that inspired me to play along with others like Lynch ,DiMartini, Schon but for the soulful blues, bends and vibrato, hus phrasing over sad lyrics. Still got the blues, Empty rooms, One day and others. Gary touched so many guitarists.
Last time I saw Gary live was 2001 Sheffield City Hall. Simon McBride opened and he's now playing with Deep Purple. Gary absolutely tore the roof off the venue with his searing tone and gave me tinnitus for days after. One of my favourite guitarists and influences in my own playing over the last 42 years. R. I. P Gary. ❤🎸
Thanks for this reaction and this did make this 69-year-old London music fan cry when I first heard this. I should have trusted you but after 4 early pauses,I was worried that you were going to interrupt the main solo that I knew was coming:) PARISIENNE WALKWAYS: Gary Moore: LIVE@ MONTREUX is another that you MUST react to and it is a little surprise in it but fear not as all will be revealed in his magical performance. One of the all-time greats and Thanks, again.
This is my first time on your channel, so I don't know if you have reacted to his "Parisienne Walkways", but that's another seriously mind-bending performance.
Sky I've got a couple of Gary Moore performances that feature his guitar wizardry, probably even more so than "Still Got The Blues" Gary Moore - "Red House" - HD R.I.P gary moore , best guitar solo ever probably
So glad you liked my comment. As you obviously like Gary Moore, I think you will like this clip of him, with bandmates Thin Lizzy. Broadcast on the iconic Old Grey Whistle Test, in 1979.
This man is the kind of musician that I wish I could have seen live. I know that I will not, but at least we have many astounding videos of this badass guitarist. He is, in my opinion, the best electic guitar player ever existed because blends perfectly emotion and technique. His ferocity is unique and he never breaks down. His voice was fabulous too.
“The Messiah will come again”, live in Montreaux 1990 is possibly the best solo on guitar ever. You will see a guitar singing to you like a voice!!!!!!
This comment may be a bit late but Gary Moore was an insane guitarist. And yes. It was a Gibson Les Paul with humbuckers. His absolute favourite and signature guitar. Some nasty people blamed him for only being able to play rock and roll. And he gave them this! His vocals were in the pocket. RIP man. You were just awesome!
Great song and performance !!! I can’t listen/watch without crying, it brings back memories from my early 20’s and the one that got away. By the time she released she’d made a mistake, I was married with a young son. I couldn’t desert my son for an ex…. He’s now close to 40 and doing well ❤
He could fuse rock into blues like no one else before AND after him was able to (ok, maybe Alvin Lee, in his own way). A true highly underrated legend, gone too soon...
I challenger anyone to name a guitarist who plays with more feel than Gary Moore! There are many great guitarists, Carlo Santana, David Gilmour, Stevie Ray and many others who play with feel, But Gary is on another level for emotional guitar playing
Triumph is one of my favourite bands and you won't believe me, they just live 5 minutes from me. I talk to Gil the drummer every now and then where he has his school/studio as there is a sandwhich shop there that I go to. I live in Mississauga Ontario Canada@@Marco-vw3mv
Gary also did some session work with the Traveling Wilbury's - I first heard this song played when my wife was listening to Radio Delilah - I was blown away
Gary was one of the very best. And of course from the island of Ireland 🇮🇪💚 Was fortunate to see him live and he would literally blow you away - the guy was a force If you fancy doing some more Gary ‘Parisienne Walkways’ is another classic. And one of my favourites is when he did ‘Red House’ live at the Fender anniversary concert to honour Jimi. I consider it one of the best EVER live performances. It is OFF THE CHART 🙌🎸
When you put in your blue hours on the guitar, most can learn to "pull notes from the spine", through simple pentatonic scale shapes. The musician does "feel" this while doing it, hence the expressions and body language.
Great to see Gary Moore featured here. Check out Empty Rooms (live version). Great lyrics, excellent vocals and a memorable guitar solo. I feel sure you will love it. Greetings from Ireland.
I used to listen to this with the girl I should have married and who knows, maybe we knew it was too good to last. But we turned this on, dimmed the lights and just went where the music took us. If we timed it just right one ir both if us would be gasping for air right about the time he hit the crescendo of that solo. That my friends was magical.
Saw him in a really tiny club in Manchester, more like a large pub, about 1975. Second half of the set he came on alone and just played (improvised) for 15 minutes before the rest joined back in Stunning.
Thin Lizzy. I had the misfortune of having a drink with Gary in Spain the night he died. An amazing, truly extraordinary guitarist and exceptional person. For your channel … Thin Lizzy. And more Mr Moore
Dear God, you gave this young woman what everyone wants---an alien beauty, but also intelligence! For her reaction to one of the most beautiful and emotional songs, 10/10!
Thank u Sky. It's so refreshing to see young ppl appreciate the GREAT music of yesteryear. I first saw Gary on the Letterman show do this song rt after the release in '91 and it 'blue' me away. He did go thru a lot, and died at 58. See Wiki. RIP Mr Moore. 🎸 PS. This song has become my #1 fave of all time replacing Stairway to Heaven. 😂
