I saw Buchanan perform this live. I like to think he would approve of this version, GM took it to incredible epic heights. The life, the suffering, the death and the resurrection of Christ is portrayed so brilliantly. And the techniques he uses are just so marvellous

It was May 1 1990 at the Concert Hall in my city. Gary came back in to the stage for one last encore and this was the song!! He played it with lots of improvisation and feeling that you felt you had gone to Heaven!! I remember it like it was yesterday, No one but Gary Moore could make his guitar sound so sad.

Hi Kristin - I don't know if you ever saw Gary Moore live. He takes us on a roller-coaster doesn't he? He played Hannover in 1992; personally it was the most memorable 50 minutes of any concert before or since. God bless you and all young people, for travelling back in time with us and appreciating the incomparable Mr. Gary Moore.

i'm lucky/glad to have seen him live twice! First time was in 1989 on the After the War tour before which he had announced it would be the last time he would play hardrock. So i got to hear all the classic songs from the '80s like Over the Hills, Empty Rooms, Out in the Fields, All Messed Up to name a few. Second time was the year after on the Still Got the Blues tour with Albert Collins. At the end of his career he returned to his like most classic songs. He did Empty Rooms, Over the Hills, Out in the Fields again. When he was confronted with what he said back in 1989 he was a little embarrassed and admit that those songs were actually still good.

Yay! Thank you for reacting to this and I am glad you enjoyed it. Gary is a magician when it comes to his guitar. That guitar he used on screen is unique and incredibly valuable. It was sold to him (for a bargain price as a favour) by Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac, he went on to use it throughout his career and after he died it was sold for a couple of million to Kirk Hammett of Metallica. Gary started out in Rock and even has some metal under his belt, he was an incredible shredder but his passion was for Blues, so, as only he could, he fused them. Most of his later music has a rock -blues feel and my god it sounds amazing. Some other suggestions for you, Parisienne Walkways, Still Got The Blues and my very favourite song ever (that no-one has yet reacted to, hint hint) is Like Angels. Live is always a good idea too :)

In the beginning of his career he used to bring his Gibson Les Paul Standard 1959 on the road. However one time it happened to become overrun by the tourbus. The guitar was heavily damaged but a like "guitar doctor" managed to restore it! After that he only used it in the studio.

This is originally a Roy Buchanan song...one of the 2 legendary guitarists from the DC area. (my hood yo lol). I would highly recommend one of his own songs, Parisienne Walkways, if you want to hear one of his own signature songs. Either way, he's in my top 3 guitarists of all time. Among his many solo projects and other collaborations , he was also in a band called Thin Lizzy, of The Boys are Back in Town fame :).

Gary truly was one of the greats, I saw him a few times both with Lizzy and solo. That guitar, by the way, is one of the most famous instruments in rock. It is a 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard and came from the factory with a mistake, the neck pick-up is the wrong way round and, hence, is "out of phase" giving the guitar a unique sound. It was originally owned by Peter Green (hence the guitar is known as "Greeny") who was a founder of Fleetwood Mac, before it came to Gary. It now belongs to Kirk Hammett from Metallica, who reportedly paid $2 million for it.

@1994renny
@1994renny 5 лет назад
It didn't come from the factory like that. Peter wasn't happy with the sound of the neck pickup so he took it to be repaired, and it was a bad repair job done by Selmers amplifiers who had no experience with guitar pickups. The magnet was flipped and placed back in the pickup the wrong way around, thats what gives it the famous "Out of phase" tone that we all know today, it came about purely by accident. Just by turning a pickup around does not put the guitar out of phase. Although there is a slight tonal difference. But Gary is not using that middle position tone in this video anyway.

ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-f5Josr4KBzA.html Gary Moore - Voodoo Child (Slight Return) I think this is the best cover version of this song, SRV's version is incredible and his cover is very popular but his playing is polished in comparison, while Gary's playing, even though he knew exactly where he was going with it, sounds raw and has more of the on the edge feel Hendrix had... and his tone absolutely slays. After you have seen GARY MOORE....it's like all the other great guitarists are no longer exciting anymore. GM has set the bar so high here, it is unlikely any guitarist past, present or future can accomplish what he did here. With respect to Mr Buchanan, Mr Bonamassa, Mr Stevie Ray Vaughan (one of Gary's insperations and my number one idol), Mr Clapton, Mr Satriani, Mr Van Halen, Mr Santana... and all those I have no time to list (you get my point) this is the greatest example of electric guitar mastery ever caught on tape. Whether it’s single note, rhythm, string bending, vibrato, hammering, arpeggio, tone, scale, pentatonics, proper diatonics, finger picking, or power chords.. this is the epitome of mastery of the guitar. I doubt you can find a guitar player that would disagree.The world should remember Gary Moore.
