Gary Numan is an Asperger's Hero. He attributes a lot of his success in music to being Asperger's. I absolutely love this man and his work. He's epic genius.

Gary Numan has had a prolific (although not commercial) career. His music is dark, deep, industrial... think Nine Inch Nails without naughty lyrics.

This was my first favorite song. I was about 3-4yrs old. My older sisters would turn it up whenever it came on the radio. I rediscovered Gary in 2019. Now I listen to him everyday. Really digging his change into industrial type of music, his last 2 records grew on me fast. Looking forward to his new one Intruder due out May 2021

Hi this song I heard at age 9 Was about to take my bath I used to listen to my radio here in Toronto called CFTR and also Chum FM. Stepped in my Bathroom suddenly heard this weird intro stud still till the song was through. After that I search the radio to hear that song and to find the name and who sang the song. I would hit miss the song just hear the piece. Or the name cars. I'm thinking they are men dressed in tires at 9 years old the sound was out of this world to me. I knew the band called cars and though they sang it. What I did was go to now obsolete one of our Canadian record shop called Sam The Record man tried to explain the son and first record played was it. age10 was the first record and album I bought in my life. I loved the Drummer in the band. Cedric Sharpley R.I.P 2013 Cancer. I have all the best covers and Remixes from Cars. This song was written in 5 minutes. It about road rage. He was driving and accidently cut a car off. The driver chased him down He locked his doors and the driver tried doors to beat him and took off to get away where he drove on the sidewalk with people jumping out of the way until he got away. That's the meaning of the song. I got a couple picz of my car on my website www.smileyshottpicz.ca show some love to guestbook so I know you've blessed my site. Thanks Salot Smiley.

Gary Numan has Asperger Syndrome (a form of Autism). So when he wrote the song 'Cars' he experienced road rage from an angry motorist that came at him. Gary rolled up his window and locked the doors so he can be safe in his car. Despite his Asperger Syndrome, he became a licensed pilot in Dec. of 1980. He now resides in Los Angeles, CA. with his wife and kids.

So...after David Bowie did "Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars", science fiction nuwave rock became popular. Gary Numan was riding the crest. The song "Cars", is set in the future or other planet that had a some kind of civilization break down. So people had to live in their cars. His albums were all syfi.

I love this song so much, I was leary .. BUT as soon as I saw them doing this together. It was MAGIC!! He is saying "cars", but a deeper analyzation will reveal that he is commenting on the fear of new wave technology that was slowly coming in, that would result in people being afraid of each other and wanting to be alone. Just like we see today.😉 SUBBED!

There are some bands where being a 1 hit wonder means that's the only enjoyable song they have, or they have an album with 10 songs, one song is a known hit, 3 other songs are enjoyable but they've never been played on tv or radio, and the other 6 are just filler crap. I borrowed this album on vinyl from my cousin and expected it to to have Cars as the only good song. I knew right away when the first song called Airlane started and i mean the first 10 seconds, that this was likely going to be a good ride and it was, I found the entire album to be very enjoyable, no filler on it. I've listened to it several times since then, to me it's just a great album. I also enjoy getting a bit of a buzz on and putting this album on. So don't be afraid of giving the other songs from The Pleasure Principal a listen.
