I wish THIS Gary Numan still existed. Don't get me wrong, nothing against Gary or what he wants to do now, but for me this is where the real magic is/was.
@@Kiko.....1008.. Dance was where he started to go downhill for me, don't get me wrong some great tracks, but Dance will never compare with Numan's masterpiece "The Pleasure Principle".
This is the "I Suppose" part of the song...which comes directly after the song "Dance" on the cassette tape sold on eBay. Of course, the song called "Dance" has already been officially released by Beggars Banquet. I believe the name "I Suppose" was coined by the original owner of the cassette tape. That name fits once you listen to this part of the song. For me, this could have easily been its own song though! It's too bad this was never released on the Dance album. It's certainly good enough to be IMHO.
This is brilliant thank you for uploading. I got told about 20 odd years ago by Beryl. Gary's mum that there are loads of stuff like this of Yet to See the Light of Day. She did hint to me that there's quite a few bits on Telekon and Dance that is still to be released. The intro and the Outro to the Wembley concert came from a tape and should be on a master tape somewhere to be released. The problem is there is no financial imperative for Beggars Banquet release this stuff. I bet you there's loads of stuff yet to be found. I wonder what other gems are on this cassette tape of the dance demos? I should also imagine there's quite a bit of unreleased stuff from the I assassin sessions as well not to mention Warriors. I think we've only heard the tip of the iceberg of what's been recorded by Gary in the early part of his career. I agree with some of the posts and Gary's new stuff is become so so predictable. The good thing about Gary in the early part of his career. Is you never knew what his going to be releasing next and what it was all going to sound like. I think intruder is so much like Savage and splinter in So Many Ways. The same string synth sound and also the same type of writing process. Again thank you for uploading this video and if it is possible could you please load up the rest of the dance demos? Regards pure.
Timeless, melodic, dreamy, the trademark vocals. I have been transported back forty years to a better place, Numan at his creative best. Thanks so much for posting
The original master of the song that came to be known as ‘Dance was lost for quite some time. The master was sent to the cutting plant and ‘Dance’ should have been released as ‘Letters’ as the b side to ‘Sister Surprise’ the pressing plant used the wrong track and instead we got ‘Face to Face’ which had already been released as the extra tracks with ‘Love needs no disguise’ on the 12inch version. Beggars when they released Dance on CD didn’t find this song you hear because it was never on the same studio tapes that went for remastering. As a side note another early version of ‘We Take Mystery’ was discovered when I’Assassin was remastered for an expanded CD in 2003 I think it was. Beggars have never been able to decide how to release these rarities when the CD remastered albums of IAssassin and Warriors didn’t sell very well a planned release to include these rarities and the 7up commercial snippets were scrapped and still not released.
I would think (hope) that Beggars will eventually release this and some of those other rarities somehow. Personally, I'd love a rarities vinyl release with accompanying digital download codes.
Wow never heard this, from my favourite album of Garys, although i love his new stuff. Talked about Dance on the intruder meet and greet. He said it was a favourite of his ex girlfriend. Absolute legend.
Brilliant to hear new music hidden for 41 years. Bits of this used elsewhere around the lp but still awesome sound and vocal. Love it and thank you for posting.
Ridiculous that these DANCE era master tapes haven't been researched properly, remastered and released. It was only a few years ago we had the reissue album, surely the perfect time to add all the extra unreleased/demo tracks for a Deluxe edition. Brilliant to hear, but crazy it has to be via a cassette recording sold on ebay.
Holy shit where did this come from? I can't believe what I'm hearing right now. Its like hearing something new from an era I love but have heard a thousand times before. The quality is amazing too for a demo
Thanks for putting this up 👍 Should definitely be included on any further releases of the Dance album. You can obviously hear bits and pieces that ended up being reworked and used in other tracks, but it's interesting in its own right.
Brilliant song. Keep playing it like the old days. Love Gary's higher vocals rather than the lower ones he uses now. There must be more unreleased gems like this. Time travel back to 1981 great
Wow, some amazing sounds and melodies here. Stunning. How have I never heard this before? It does make you wonder what else is hidden in the vaults. Thanks for uploading!!!!
Absolutely agree! Telekon was his masterpiece imho. Edgy yet melodic, interesting stories and experiences sung with much more emotion than 1st 2 albums (love them as well) Adore the lush and string synth sounds. I do like "Rain" and "Time To Die" as well .
I''d definitely have this over She's Got Claws. This was moodier and darker. 3:14 is both hypnotic and spooky. Of course songs from Intruder such as I Am Screaming took its cues from Dance, but 3:14 feels like something Gary could rework into his next album. It would just need the heavy Trip Hop drum loops of Now And Forever as well as the soft clicky ones found on I Am Screaming and throughout the Dance album.
A fantastic track, which really kicks in at 3m 33s. I cannot make out all the lyrics but this track really needs an official release. I wonder what else is in the BB vaults.
@@marioandtyler when Steve was talking about the remastered dance CD from 1999 he said there are instrumentals, an extended Moral (which was released a year or two ago) and an alternative version of Boys like me. He never mentioned this newly discovered song though he was raving about the song Dance.
Brilliant and such a Gem. I thought I had all Numan's music and this is my favorite era. Am besides myself hearing this!! Where did this come from? is this an extra bonus track anywhere?THANKS!!!!
Absolutely loved this. I love that dance album. Are there any more tracks? I asked Gary at a meet and greet whether he would do a dance tour and he said he would need to get another bassist and it takes a lot of work to setup the percussion. Shame.
When I look at Gary's career, I can't help but think that with professional management he could have been as big as Bowie, somehow it all slowed down after Telekon for me, although Dance was a great album. I think Gary should have experimented much more with his voice and he concentrated far too much on the UK and the BBC, DJ,s not playing his stuff, Bowie was always well above the BBC and UK and they used to Beg Bowie for interviews.
At four o’clock we scream it’s just for you, that just cries Like I do, I don’t need you - rain A sign in ?? this is occupied, and Freud sings Like I do, I don’t need you now - Won’t you dance with me? - We’ll take you slowly saying time for bed, I can’t sleep Like you do, we’re not angry now We’ll leave a hostage saying “God will smile” You won’t laugh when we do We’re not angry now - It was always just a plan to fool you I leave this business and delight to fly And I am called the boys who sing so vocal But look who wins, look at my ?? one too Just look at me, rewrite your themes/things lonely The clock says so - I need more ??? to live like me Like me, like I suppose
It's a DEMO! Gary oftened ablibs vocals during new songs to get a 'feel' how the songs progressing, full lyrics follow - He often added random words & 'muttering' Just listen to Remember I Was Vapour' from the Living Ornaments 1980 album Gary's ablibbing live in concert overdrive on that song for sure
