I've seen Gary being interviewed many many times and no matter how poor the people are interviewing him as in this case he truly does come off as a polite class act.
They're incredibly condescending - like asking Andy Warhol if he can paint a landscape: Gary's a really talented guy - but shy as hell - so these bozos assume he's a light-weight.
Interviewer: "People were ignoring you?" Gary: "Well, the radio was, for a while. People obviously bought it because it was number one, so..." Love this guy.
For me they are not that condescending as lacking any idea what to ask to make it interesting. So they come up with all sorts of stupid questions that are embarrassing to answer for Gary. That is making the whole thing an awkward stuff.
I can't believe what rubbish interviewers they are, you can tell they haven't a clue about this type of music it made me cringe. Respect to Gary so polite
Gotta disagree about 80s fests being an admission of having "nothing new to offer." OMD (possibly the "friends of mine" he refers to) do the retro circuit, yet still make top-shelf records. It's possible to do both.
Numan and Lyndon give great interviews, Numans refreshing honesty and self effacing nature easily trumps bad interviewers like these by making them look vindictive, whereas Lydon meets these types head on with cutting cynicism.
To get a good interview, you'd either need someone from the world of music like Anne Nightingale; or if you are going to get an establishment figure, at least get a big hitter like Michael Parkinson. And why have two people interviewing one person anyway? They rigidly stuck to their silly lightweight formula, and ruined it for their guest. That said, Gary did pretty damned well under the circumstances.
Loved his stuff in the 80's; and still think that the best gig, I ever went to, was one of his; but he is right, to move forward rather than being a crutch for those that try to relive their youth by never moving forward. iiiii] : |
Love his classics such as Cars and Are Friends Electric but also his current stuff he is doing as well. He rarely performs his classics but when he does, it is a blessed treat.
Lv Gary, changed me from a Ted to a futurist when i got grounded. G, such a brill bloke all round ,.., have to add. we called ouselves up north as futurists, not new romantics, that was the blitz club termanology down south,... jst had to say for back in the day ;) x
He's just as lush in the flesh I saw him in concert last night in newcastle I was 5 foot away from him n still in love with him after over 33years off listening to his music I'm only 43
Way to much negative comments. Gary is brilliant so many artist are great because they know how to make music that you want to listen to!!! After all isn't that the most important aspect, that you WANT to hear it???
Funny you two have had all this success and you're not real journalists, are you? Isn't that interesting. I mean, if I were to place you in front of a conventional typewriter you'd be able to write, would you?
I was about 8 yrs old or so when " Cars" came out and i keep listening to this even nowadays. I can't even realize that so much time has passed and his releases didn;t get old. This is ( " the cars " track ) a lot better than most of " one hit wonder "rubbish being served almost everywhere.
Gary's looking well but he's starting to look like Tony Blackburn. LOL. Nice black wig too. I understand his attitude towards making new music too. Good for him. Thanks for uploading. :)
The Augmented chord only exists in harmonic scales functionally and naturally. It is the third chord of the harmonic minor scale and the flat sixth of the harmonic major scale.
This was an terrible interview - mostly because the presenters didn't seem to know what to ask. Especially the bloke, the woman was better. At least she made an effort to be friendly.
I have to say that the female interviewer is hot, but that being said Gary is completely spot on here...Why are they asking about Duran Duran???!! Numan blows them away....
