I love how Gary Numan's voice seems to get better with age. He's also incredible live, seen him about 8 times now... Incredible energy onstage.

Mr Numan is iconic, and deserves all the awards for his music. He is such a nice guy when you meet him, and he means alot to the mrs as she has strokes and to get her speech back she sings his stuff. His lyrics mean alot to her and have gotten her through loosing her beloved dad who died of cancer two year ago this January gone. Numans intruder ought to be played in hospitals to get the staff through this pandemic with honours. His words wring so true with all who suffer with their mental health and he gives a light where there is not one for all those who listen.

'The Chosen' off the Intruder album and 'Haunted' off the Jagged album really punch through with huge swathes of industrial metal overtones. There's so much that people don't know about Gary's music that may surprise them. From 1994 'Sacrifice' to date, he's set new standards embracing the darkwave genre and forging himself a legendary status within it.

I think I'm about a year younger than you, and the first music "scene" I really got into was that post-punk wave of synth/electronic stuff. My first gig was Gary Numan at the Edinburgh Playhouse in 1983. I still have the ticket (£3). Gary always credits the late '70s version of Ultravox led by John Foxx as his inspiration, and Ultravox's third album Systems of Romance does an excellent job of blending rock guitars and analogue synths and showing just how *heavy* electronic music can be. My friends and I quite happily listened to it alongside Motorhead and Rush. Anyway, nice to hear Gary doing his thing, even if that thing hasn't changed very much in four decades. Like Ningen Isu, he gets points for dogged tenacity and, as you say, down-to-earth humility.

I remember wondering who the voice on the Lee Cooper 'Don't Be A Dummy' advert in the commercial break of The Incredible Hulk was - Numan being Numan has always been stand out, even in a jingle in 1979.

I am Gary's age and have followed him and Depeche Mode for 40 years. Now I also listen to metal and dark stuff, but as you said, I will listen to almost any genre to check out a band or a tune. I'm a singer, so I know right away if I like it or not. But Gary has his own sound and this Intruder tune has been etched on my brain since I first heard it. I actually woke up at 4:30 this morning with it in my head, so I just got up and listened to it; resistance was futile. His "Now and Forever" is running a close second and I found myself humming that in the elevator today. I clicked on your video because I was glad to see someone else who couldn't stop hearing "Intruder".

He keeps evolving and is always looks for newer and fresher ideas. Even his stage persona is very different. He is candid and truly honest about being his own worst critic. But that’s what makes him unique. His voice is so recognisable and it’s actually used really well with his anthemic sounds. There is a lot of music left in him and hopefully he will want to keep finding new sounds.

I got his last two albums. This is the most metal pop in existence. It fits in well with the industrial crew like Rob Zombie and Ministry and the obvious NIN who he's performed with. He's a bit one dimensional, but it's such earworm I don't care. It's great. And do more varied music. I dare you.

Gary Numan is the epitome of synth pop music, a chameleon who changes with time and progressively gets better and better. It was been wonderful to listen to the evolution of his music from the late 70s until now in 2021. Most of all, there is the haunting, mysterious voice that has aged so well. I’ve always felt the his music was sequestered to a little dark corner and never awarded as it should be. Hopefully, Intruder will rocket his style to fame. Such a great and creative talent.

Gary has evolved and in an intense, brilliant way. I liked his earlier work a lot--listened to him in college way back in the day. But now, I absolutely fangirl over his work he's been creating since the 1990s. If you like a lot of alternative stuff, try In Strict Confidence--dark industrial Euro band.

Very cool track and I liked the video. Well done Gary. You can do a 'Non Metal Confessions ' segment now and again. Without going into percentages, I listen to quite a bit of classical music, world music and folk music. I grew up in the 80s and still like a lot of the non-metal music from that era. Variety is the spice of life after all. Cheers Hedgy.

I love this song and honestly don't recall how I stumbled onto it. Growing up my older brothers pushed and impressed heavy metal on me and my very first concert at age 12 was Iron Maiden for their support of "Somewhere In Time". The only thing I hate is that there is this wait for the album to drop because with this sample, I am really curious about the album, how it will sound, and hoping it will be on par with this song. With your ending sentiment, I think a great song by a metal band that covers multiple genres within the lyrics is "31 Flavors" by Sacred Reich. If you're not already familiar with it, definitely look it up.

Obviously I've heard of Gary Numan, but I just never really thought to see what his later stuff is like. Darker than I remember so absolutely fits in my "industrial pop" tastes (I would presume you are aware of Aesthetic Perfection, he's pretty much cultivated that as a genre in its own right these days, if not go check his latest stuff out) I'd be interested in seeing more non metal videos, even more stuff from the industrial scene? Also. Request for Trollfest. Just because they're fun

Oh yes! With bells on!!!! The wider you cast your net, the richer the haul. Gary Numan, OMD, Depeche Mode, New Order, Spear Of Destiny, Tears For Fears.... my brother does a great podcast ostensibly about jazz, but the amount of other stuff that crops up is amazing. How wedded are you to a genre? People are blind to trying new things, or moving away from their comfort zone. Their loss - we can try our hardest to promote and share left field stuff, interesting, obscure, gems and discoveries, but most people want to see Comfortably Numb or Stairway To Heaven over and over and over again.....
@PNW
@PNW 3 года назад
Something that has been demonstrated to me over and over again doing this is that a high percentage of people only want what they already have. We all have our favourites that we're comfortable with but for some it is too much effort to check new stuff even in a genre they love, let alone a different genre. I understand it, I just think they're missing out.
@JimNewstead

@PNW

@@JimNewstead Mostly I don't like music that is manufactured as a product which a lot of pop is. At least if you were a pop band in the eighties you usually had to actually be able to write a song. Well, haven't surprised at all. I guessed you would find synthwave/darkvawe material enjoyable. That's a usual non-metal composed by metal musicians (Perturbator, Bergeton and alike) . Also neofolk (Vardruna, Heilung) would be absolutely expected on your channel )

Gary's music has went downhill since he made Ade Fenton his producer, it has become too stale and repetitive, even the "middle years" were far more inventive and the songs at least had melody back then. The last decent Numan album was Exile.
