I've been a Numan fan since 1979 and I thought I'd heard all of his stuff. I don't remember ever hearing this. But it is strangely forgetable. This was clearly a time when he had lost his way. Glad he found his vibe again. He remains the coolest performer I've ever seen, especially live! This song will be dropping out of my memory again very shortly.
Read his autobiography. Occasionally other groups come up to him and offer sums of money for doing things that mean it only makes sense to turn them down if you're rolling in it. This has not always been the case with Numan, far from it. So occasionally he does stuff like this, or the Techno Army CD, Sailor In Love With The Sea, etc.
I am a huge fan of Gary Numan, especially his latest stuff. This is not like any of his other material, but I really like it. Sounds like a mixture of John Farnham`s You`re the voice and OMD`s Joan of Arc. It`s brilliant
I have been a fan of Mr. Numan since Replicas and still enjoy listening to his music today. This however passed me by on its original release. It is a good track though
This was clearly the time when good ol' Gary had simply lost his way. A desperate attempt to get his career back on track by trying to go the "commercial route". This song is not bad , its actually pretty good and very sincere , the problem is its just NOT NUMAN!! Thank God he met Gemma who gave him his confidence back and put him back on track to being the great artists that he now is once again !! Broody , dark , melodic and powerful !! The one and only genius , Gary Numan!!
Vaughty Official I agree, although oddly enough this was just before/ round about the same time as Sacrifice. It's not my kind of song, the look doesn't go with it either, the look should have been reserved for Sacrifice for when he returned to his Gothic roots. 0:05 as a picture, ok, grimy street, dark industrial looking bloke, ok this is gonna be some kind of dark, menacing music video, yet when you play it you are confused. And dare I say it actually seems quite hilarious. A very odd choice to have that look for the video indeed. That being said, the meaning is very caring and it was a very thoughtful gesture of Gary to take part :)
As an attempt to create a radio-friendly single, this has to be the one that *should* have got played!! It ticks all the commercial boxes. Goes to show they wouldn't have played *any* single performed by him at that time. He was right to abandon radio play and focus on his own sound and album sales.
You obviously not listened to his cover of Prince's. U Got The Look, now that is poor, however I think this song is ok, but an average video for it's time .
Poor Gary, what the hell is this? Have loved him for 40yrs but this is awful. It's not Gary,s style. Best we just forget this and enjoy very much what is doing now, it's brilliant!
Nope it's brilliant been a fan since 79 and love his style and not afraid to try anything.. Just because opinion is made like yours doesn't mean your right... Because that's all mine is to opinion
I like both those especially Absolution from Exile '97 I liked a lot. The Need is good but not his style at all his stuff was interesting it has his ups and downs best when he lost his way some here seems was I, Assassin I though in 1982 hit record and the 3 hit singles. 2 Top 20 Singles and 1 Top 10 in U.K. 1982 #9 - We Take Mystery (To Bed), Music For Chameleons #19 and White Boys And Heroes #20 also.
Gary Hunt I think there is a certain psychology behind it. The look I think should have been reserved for Sacrifice. Perhaps with different attire, similar to his more "The Fury" days it may have worked. I don't mind the song, but the timing I'd say was just off.
Krampus This isn't his worst, not by a mile, I think it's ok, however I can imagine this song being on an advert for the greatest hits compilation CDs of those romantic singers. However this is lovely because of the sentiment and meaning behind it. It's nice to see that Gary cares :)
