Last night (30.05.2022) I attend to Gary Numan's concert at John Dee, Oslo. Amazing show, I've seen him live 4 times but nowadays Numan is just amazing. He's 64 and better than ever.
Seriously... And I mean seriously.. Numan’s live performances have always been incredible. Even had Billy Currie and Nash the Slash, two phenomenal violin players. And yet his music is still modern, inspiring, menacing, joyful and beautiful simultaneously..
This concert was recorded and filmed at the Manchester Academy, UK in 2008. It was a celebration of Gary Numans 30 years as a musician as well as his 50th birthday on the night of the concert.
I can't wait for 2nd May 2022 in Brum, a living legend and still making great music. My favorite songs , it must of been years and haunted, the volume just goes up

What a track !!! I remember listening to this when Replicas was first released and it still gives me goosebumps. 40 years on. Only Gary Numan can write songs like this
Other than "Cars" in my teens, fairly new (and appreciative) of Numan in the past 3 or so years. Is it normal all my body hair stood on end and my head exploded watching this?? Aren't music stars supposed to dim as they pass through the years? HE'S ASCENDING TO GOD LEVEL! :O :D
I remember listening to 'Are Friends Electric', being played loud, in my local NSS news agent on a warm spring day in 1979, was the first record I ever bought. =) Gary Numan gave birth to the new era!
He gets alot of critisism but the man is a fantastic live performer. A pioneer for the electronic music era, and so influential to so many bands now. I've seen him live so many times, met him once and it's all good! Dedicated to Cedric Sharpley, great drummer. RIP
First heard "Cars" on alternative radio, but then they started to play the shit out of it... But it was enough for my bud and I to go see his early concert W/ Nash The Slash for his opener...(on acid!) I didn't think I could get any more into both artists until I found their other albums on Ytube. This artist ROCKS beyond what any words can describe!!!
I know the guitarist. Chris, best mates, we both auditioned for Gary when Steve Fox-Harris (Gary's full time guitarist) was unable to play for him at the time... Chris got the gig(s). Hehe.
Nice to hear! Do you know how he makes that awful guitar sound? Connected to a synth? I tried to connect my guitar to my synth, but couldn’t make it.. Musically yours Liselotte in Sweden (This song and Metal (from Pleasure Priciple) made me start playing guitar and synth in the 70’s.. and I still do..)
I have enjoyed this video so much - Replicas was the first album I ever bought, splinter being the most recent! Videos like this, kind of bring the two together. "Utopia" thanks for posting.
Having been a fan since.. well just decades... and have this on vinyl with the full photospread of the original concert i can only say YES !!! to see Gary up there redoing this ICONIC opening, and smiling, LOVING it.. made me grin like a cheshire cat. Reconciled.. past and present. WAY TO GO DUDE. loved ya then, love ya now.. you just get better and better ... still grinning.. and those synths still make my soul sing decades later. Have ALL his work, on vinyl cd and tape :D
HAPPY BIRTHDAY GARY!! Wishing you health and happiness for many many years to come!! Keep making amazing music and tour when you can!!! We love you!!!!❤❤🇨🇦🎹🎉
I have gone through several of his live you tube songs, and I am amazed that there are any dislikes. New is a brilliant artist. I have seen his shows and his progressions as an artist over the past 40 years. Fabulous is all I can say, he delivers over and over. The sound and the show antics are quality and a beautiful thing too see.
I appreciate his entire catalog (well, almost), but during 1978-1980 damn was he a songwriting genius juggernaut. I mean he humbly declares he is a cult-level artist (which he is), but for the ones who understand these few years of effort by an extremely young man are on par with dylans 60s or bowies 70s etc. His approach to sound, lyrics (his poetry was so mesmerizing and effortless during that time) and visuals are still something to behold. And this is I think precisely why these songs are so impressive being reinvented for modern times. But genius strikes you and then it leaves, it's like Dylan said in a later interview that he has no idea how he wrote all those early songs, like it wasn't him, which is I guess how creativity works. It is you but also it is something that works through you.
