After signing a new deal until 2028, Gary O'Neil looks back on his first year at Wolves, the progress that's been made, his first full pre-season and looks ahead with optimism to 2024/25.
I've been a supporter since my grandfather took me to my first game aged 7 in 1995. I think Gary has been the breath of fresh air we needed, consistantly taking it to the top teams only being hindered by a spate of injuries in the spring. Go give em hell next season.
Never liked Lopetegui, nor did players it seems. Gary has come in and prioritised getting the players to be mates, just like Kenny Jackett and Nuno before him. Happy players = better performances = happy fans. Nunos downfall was being stubborn. Gary does make changes, sees what different players can offer. Sure we’re some way off Top 6 on paper… but ££££ does not buy team morale and togetherness, Spurs haven’t had that since 1986🤣.
I was pleased thatGary came to Wolves I was pleased that our new coaching team were British and were aware of the tradition of Wolves they’ve done well and I can’t wait to get started again
I won’t lie here, I was extremely disappointed seeing Lop had left and didn’t believe in GON at all, but he shocked me, if we had Lop considering the situation we honestly might have been relegated, but he saved us, and I’m so grateful
As a Chelsea Fan, I Genuinely Wish We Had Stability Like Wolves. My best mate is a Portsmouth fan, I've watched Gary play for over 10years. He was a quality midfielder, He is Quality Manager because of this, he knows how to win and control games, better than lopitegi on a shoe string budget. He has brought unity and team spirit at molineux wishing you all the best this season at wolves, as Chelsea blow another billion getting absolutely no where.
He's was never a good player and he's an even worse manager he's clueless him and 5 coaches still can't break a team down or keep a clean sheet completely stealing a living.
If Garry plays his cards right he could be the wolves manager for many many seasons. I’d like to see him take us to Europe and see 10+ years at wolves. Not many make that amount of seasons but I feel he could do it. His honesty relates to the fans and that’s why we forgive him when we have a blip long the way. Most managers would kill to get that kind of relationship with a fan base as passionate as wolves.
As a South Korean fan, I really respect you. What you have achieved last season was extraordinary and beyond my expectations. As such, not only the performance but also the play style was formidable. I am so interested in how and what Wolves players would show on the pitch the upcoming season. God bless you and Wolves.*
Well deserved boss, from 1 year ago thinking when we go a goal down to now if we go two goals down believing we can come back, it’s all credit to you! Thank you for making us believe again 🐺🐺🐺
Trusted Hobbs, gave you a fair shot. Bloody well glad i did. Changed the club with an exciting young balling team. Slowly cooking away with Hobbs and we can see whats building. Very excited! Welldone to all for the signings! Shi staying a little more in the background, Fosun still giving their backing. Business being sone wisley; fans are happy and waiting 😅
Hope it works out really nice guy sometimes too nice if you know what I mean with neto sold be nice to get another centre back would like to see podence stay also
Nice to have a manager who,s head is not in the clouds and is positive where he wants the the Players and the club to go and wants to give the fans something back, Good luck for the new season.
Gonna be a good, positive season. I can feel it in my waters.... DO NOT let RAN go, whatever happens, keep RAN A CB and a winger and we're golden babyyyyyyy...
Lovely interview GON very positive, players bonding well, making Mario Captain is a positive move he will be better than our last two RN & MK Encouraging the Families to get involved makes for good team Spirit. Hope we have a great season. AW
Jeff was the reason we'd originally found ourselves in a financial mess. Thankfully - he's deligated football matters to colleagues who actually have expertise in this space
Congratulations on your contract Gary but I have to say the questions being asked are so sycophantic, what do you love about wolves , why do you think the players love you so much etc etc . Absolute mush.
Sorry to be a doubting Thomas however I am not at all impressed with this contract extension. Fosun are the issue here, there unwillingness to fund the club further and total lack of ambition will come back to haunt the long suffering fans . My question is simply what has O Neil yet to achieve and although some would say he kept the club in the Premier League any coach with a bit of savvy should have been able to do so given the squad inherited . I may be wrong but let's see where we are in 3 months from now .
Great news !!! GON is a real worker, conscientious and clearly enjoys what he is doing. Looking forward to the new season. Hopefully, we quickly replace Kilman and Neto with quality and to deepen this squad.
It isn't that cheap considering it's an upfront fee of 52 mil. We get that money now, same as we got the 30 odd mil for Kilman the day we sold him. I would rather have the money to reinvest today than sell him for 15mil more but have that broken down over 3 or 4 seasons like we did with Jota. Hobbs hasn't really signed a dud since he took over. Trust the process. We won two of three preseason games overwhelmingly without Pedro Neto, played some phenomenal football, albeit preseason, some of the best I've seen in the time I've supported wolves.
@@engespress Only when he is not injured, if his injury record was great, then Wolves would be maybe looking at over £70m. Problem with explosive players, they will always be injury prone and Pedro has missed over 100 games through injury , I am just surprised he went to Chelsea with their ridiculously massive squad .
Are you guys releasing all this content to try to distract fans from the fact that you've just sold Neto with no real replacement lined up? You must be taking the piss
i think thats why they bought Gomes as a replacement for Neto because they knew that he will go in this transfer window. And so far Gomes seems like a very good replacement. I am sad to see Pedro go, but i think we are allright at the front even without signing someone else.
Unwarranted as yet on the back of last season which mirrored Bruno Lages first in sooo many ways. Largely dross football, complete inability to coach, setup and direct things when we lost just 2 players in Neto and Dawson, 5 points from our last 30! Disgustingly inept performances and humiliating cup exits including being 2-1 up in the 96th minute and still losing against lower league teams in the fa cup, admitting to directly causing player injuries by playing players in red zones regarding muscle injuries, unable to adapt to opposition tactical changes real time or even any time.... And with the first 10 fixtures of this season looking how they are, well you've just made it more expensive for a club with ffp limitations to remove the lead man! If he has a good season this one then a new contract would make more sense, but on the back of the above... 🤔
Gary's record during the last third of the season was poor. Many teams who have suffered such poor form at the end of the season generally continue this with the new season. We have just lost Neto and it was he more than anyone which brought about many of our wins. It is a crazy time to give him a contract. We should wait to see how we begin the season. It is a hard start and I am not convinced he is the guy to see us through it.
