Brad as Floyd is my all-time fave "most UNDERRATED yet FAVORITE movie characters 2 ever be onscreen less than 3-4 min...yet hilarious & unforgettable" . I'm so grateful he got that role I always take such pleasure in watching…While LOL'ing every single time i see it. If u disagree w/ me, that's cool. Just dont u conden-scend me man.🤣😂😆🥰
As Drexl or Dracula ??? He is one of the best Actor Artists who incarnates his personas with a special, natural and energetic presence....Will have to watch True Romance again...bet it is still fresh in 2019 !
Honestly, he plays an animal in True Romance and I don't see many actors being able to go there. He was awesome in it. Even in the interview, he seems like quite a character.
*That is awesome. I nearly met Samuel L Jackson in London years ago, I saw him outside a hotel signing autographs & ran into the pub & grabbed a beer mat. In my excitement of meeting one of my idols I tripped on the curb & busted my knee & lip on the ground. I looked over & thank God he hadn't witnessed a crazy fanboy faceplant into the concrete. I limped away with my unsigned beer mat*
This movie is spectacular. This pimp scene, the Sicilian genealogy scene, and the ending are unforgettable. And let's not forget the cast! Chistian Slater, Gary Oldman, Dennis Hopper, Christopher Walken, Tom Sizemore, Brad PItt, Val Kilmer, Patricia Arquette, Michael Rappaport, Chris Penn, Bronson Pinchot, James Gandolfini, and Samuel L. Jackson.
100% agreed. I tell everyone I talk to about movies about this, most have never seen it. Don't forget the script was written by Quentin Tarantino (Master!) and Directed by Tony Scott (Legend!). Just an epic, epic movie.
Four of them are dead; Dennis Hopper, Tom Sizemore, Chris Penn, and James Gandolfini. I mean 5. Tony Scott, who committed suicide because he had cancer.
LOL oh yeah....I notice little doggy actions by my little "Bijou" but she isn't a pimp! And my beloved "Gatemouth" (my ex who was a magician named her after Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown) used to fetch his guitar strings when he changed them!!!
@@haerverk Genius ham. It’s not even that hammy though cause there are people with even more demonstrative characters out there, but usually there’s nothing charismatic about them.
For me it was State of Grace ... that was one of the most accurate and scary unhinged Westies Hells Kitchen gang Member Characters ever put on Screen . The way he drank Liquor from a Pint bottle , the Hair . the way he carried himself, the short fuse and temper. If you lived in NYC during that time period, you know that is how those Guys rolled. He absolutely nailed Jackie Flannery ..
@callmecatalyst my favorite scene from him was in the Talented Mr Ripley, when they were playing records and he gave Matt Damon a dirty look. Crazy, evil eye. Drugs have taken too many talented people. When Prince died it was horrible. I went to Paisley Park two weeks ago and it was very surreal to say the least.
One of my favorite movie characters ever. I became a Gary Oldman fan the first time I saw this. Guy is a monster in the biz. The amount of current and future A-listers in True Romance is crazy for an Indie and amazingly he might have outshined them all.
I've been saying the same thing, they are on the Same exact level...The way they transform themselves into the characters they play, with every subtle nuance , is absolutely amazing.. In Some Roles such as Mason Verger in Hannibal , Oldman is not even recognizable .
Jefffrey Wright is also one to watch closely as he perfects his Craft .... He takes the same pride in transforming himself completely into the Role . plays a Dominican Drug dealer named Peoples in Shaft( 2000),, Christian Bale is also in it, thats why i mention it ... they stole the spotlight from Samuel L Jackson and several others . He was also Dr Narcisse in Boardwalk Empire .
Gary Oldman my absolute favorite actor everrrrrrrrrr! I have always been captivated by his presence onscreen. He is truly a master of his craft. I love you Mr. Oldman
Tarantino _LOVES_ his Bronson references. "If you get a customer, or an employee who thinks he's *_Charles Bronson_* take the butt of your gun and smash their nose in."
@@luislizard2626 I wouldn’t be surprised, maybe Snorting coke was a part of keeping in character, staying in the method. Lol Was doing it during the Professional? He was amazing on that.
The beauty of the movie (my favorite of all time) is that so many phenomenal actors had their scenes and no more. It has everyone in it, but no one stars.
@@candymr2 I replied to your comment but my phone's not showing it...to condense just incase it posts both, type in Oldman Everyone.. best 10 seconds of acting on record.
your* accent, not you're accent How is it possible so many people seem to be too stupid to understand the difference between "your" and "you're"? Sorry to put this on you now, but I must have seen this hundreds of times in my life at this point, if not thousands of times.
If I write something and notice autocorrect misspelled a word, I go back and correct it. Literally takes 2 seconds. No excuse for making people believe you don't know how to spell basic words.
The grammar thing just flips me out. But then I feel so petty but...........how about this one "them trees" or "them shoes" HEY PEOPLE IT'S EITHER THEM OR THOSE SHOES...also the famous "I seen it" NO YOU DIDN'T SEEN IT YOU SAW IT, DUDE.and of course they're, their and there. I can't help it IF I ever was foolish enough to get married again....if the person opened THEIR mouth and spewed some bad grammar....GOODBYE I would be so embarrassed!
I like that kind of actors that can surprise. I think it's boring with Deniro, Pacino and Jack Nicholson. You know exactly what you'll getting and it is the same in every single movie. And interview. They are who they are. Is it even acting?
@@chrissibersky4617 Gotta disagree as far as Pacino in Godfather part 1 and 2. So spot on, and so unique to anything he's done since. He was born to play Michael. 2 of the best movies ever made, and he made those movies.
True Romance is my all time favorite movie. A lot of people don't know about it because it's not considered a "Tarantino movie" because he didn't direct it. But you can tell he wrote it for sure.
i love how his accent fades in & out throughout the interview. he didn't want to completely lose drexl's voice before going back to the set to finish shooting the scene.
I want to find the guy he taped and ask him if he recognized that his voice has been immortalized in Drexel in this 90’s time capsule of a movie. Gary is ICONIC here
Gary Oldman has got to be the most underrated actor in the world. Sure who doesn't love de niro pacino but Gary has gone from making me actually believe that he is a black guy in true romance to believing that he is Mason Verger a victim of Hanibal lecter. In Leon he walked up the stairs and stood outside the apartment and took that pill out of a tiny box popped it in his mouth and contorted....... it actually frightened me... Gary Oldman has never even been nominated for an Oscar How the fuck does that make sense..?
Being an Oldman fan and having never watched Tinker is like visiting Louvre and forgetting to check out Mona Lisa. If you love his flamboyant performances like Drexl you'd be amazed at his ability to be the complete opposite on the acting spectrum.
His explanation of how QT writes/directs and how he makes characters so well has really shown true over his entire career. The man is one of the best the industry and world has ever seen.
That movie is about a quarter century old, and I STILL don’t know wtf those pills were!! And does he chew them or is that his neck we hear cracking every time he chomps on one?
@@DA82324 It was supposed to be a mystery. It seems to give him a rush then make him more chill. The best pre-work out I ever had did that for me. Best workouts on that stuff.
@@BigBadJerryRogers haha more chill?? Yeah, that’s exactly what my first thought was...this guy’s chill lol.. especially after borderline snapping his own neck upwards! EEEVERYYY ONE loves that f’ng movie🤘🏼
This role put Gary Oldman in a class reserved for true actors...the kind which create Unforgettable characters all on their own! The "look"...the "sound"...the Entire character!
Well, based on this character i would say the opposite. He does such a great job because he puts in a lot of work and thought. in the interview he gives specific examples. There is no "snapping in". He has talent, of course, and without talent you can't do it, but it's the effort and attitude that sets him apart in my opinion.
Gary Oldman caught my eye as the little scumbag renegade brother of an Irish mobster wanting to be in business with an Italian in State of Grace. I knew he was brilliant then, and didn’t know he was British until 5 movies later!!!
Nah man, Jackie Flannery was his most scary character .. so incredibly realistic ... there actually were guys just like that in Hells Kitchen during that time period ..
And look who he is up against in that movie as well, Ed Harris, Sean Penn.. great actors , but Oldman ,imo totally steals the whole movie .. you are gonna really enjoy it .
He WAS Mickey Featherstone!!! The Westies! Mickey is still in witness protection and Jimmy Coonan is in prison doing 75 no parole! How did he nail the part of Jackie if he never lived in Hells kitchen and hung out with those people??All the people who knew the real Mickey Featherstone. said HE NAILED IT!! I watched STATE of GRACE again last week. I was living in NY at the time and I couldn't believe his performance.
One of the greatest films EVER. And, Gary's role as Dexter is legendary. Great to see this interview with Gary out of character and to learn how he developed the character in a fairly short period of time; a master class in character development.
This is fucking amazing! Thank you SO MUCH for uploading this! Never seen this before! Gary Oldman is a living legend! BY FAR my favourite actor of all time! He disappears inside roles so effortlessly!
That description of his character was spot on..."He's a bad, bad. bad, bad, bad, very bad guy..." There were so many great scenes in this Movie, one of my fav QT films ever...!
OMG I already loved Gary Oldman, but this is an amazing interview! And this has been one of my top favourite films for over 20years. So underrated also. Ive recommended this film to people countless times!! 😁😎😎
One of the most underrated films of all time. A film that deserves much more recognition, written by the legendary Tarantino with another legendary Gary Oldman performance who never fails in going above and beyond in making his roles notable, amazing, memorable, outstanding, incredible, always making his roles iconic, as well as always making the film standout as one of the greats especially in every film he's in. A film with an excellent storyline, soundtrack, obsession, filled with action, emotion, feelings, intensity, iconic, legendary scenes, where in the end, despite Tarantino's trademark, and him not being the main director, both of them live on happly ever after, truly being like Bonne and Clyde, but in the end living, with a true romance, change, story, and experience.
Imagine there's someone out there, walking the streets of New York, whose voice and timbre and that all, inspired one of the greatest actors for one of his greatest performance.. Would he be aware?
Just to hear his normal voice to come out of Drexyl’s appearance just shows how good of an actor he is too make such a big switch in personalities like that
@@tsunamitube3351 That was not the point. In this interview he doesn't act like his character in the film, he is being himself in here. Yeah, he is clearly dressed as the character in this interview and you can see bits of his character also just the way he acts but overall it's Gary Oldman here.
Everything about this character is perfect, from appearance to performance. There's a rawness and coolness to this character, Drexl is just oozing character which makes him so interesting. That and the black guy accent makes it feel old school.
Will the Academy ever recognize Gary's genius?? Some of the most iconic performances ever recorded and not only no Best Actor Awards... but no NOMINATIONS?!?! Proof the Academy Awards is a sham
He was nominated 5 years ago for TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY (lost to the French guy in THE ARTIST) and looks to get another nod (and possibly the win) this year for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in DARKEST HOUR, for which he has received great acclaim.
He don't need the fuckin' bullshit academy. They only give them out to the whores male or female whose cheeks they've been bustin' for years in order for them to make that top dollar. Gary Oldman don't strike me as one to allow his cheeks being busted. Now i know he's pretty. But not as pretty as those so insecure of themselves to sell out their own soul for fame. Everyday is white boy day for those casting couch execs. But they about to catch their bullet in the dick.
Slisification 101 Brit actors IMO have more depth because they work harder to get to America (Hollywood). Also that constant miserable gray weather creates a literal cloud of glum which brings out that solemn depth. UK also produces some of the best musical artists because of this. Kids (actors) born in California are already spoiled generally, fairly happy . They aren't trying to get to the USA. They're already living the dream so that deep depression isn't there.
The Mad Irishman You are probably correct about Mel Gibson but stereotyping all other Americans in that way is ridiculous. Euros do this all the time. They say Americans are brainwashed by media when ironically Europeans are just as or more so brainwashed by BBC etc. and their view of the USA is carefully filtered and controlled to fit agendas. I know Europeans who visited the US and were blown away about how wrong the American image fed to them in Europe was.
One reason may be that most of them are intensely trained in traditional drama schools and start their career as a stage actor. They aren't accidentally "discovered" by agents while waiting tables in Los Angeles only because they look good.
I just watched Laundromat again and it's just amazing how Gary becomes whatever character he's playing. I mean I forgot I'm watching Gary oldman. I always know I'm watching Tom Cruise.
Oldman is a true actor. One of those guys that can do it all. Hes so good, that in some movies you dont even realize its him till halfway thru the movie. ha.
I remember seeing this in the movie theaters when I came out… No one knew who Tarantino was. Even after Pulp Fiction and Reservoir dogs a lot of people did not recognize Tarantino or associate him with this film because of Tony Scott. It was a sleeper with an amazing cost and probably the best fight scene between a man and a woman ever
Gary Oldman is The Man!!! Loved him since the firm"Yeti Yeti Yeti"😁 One of the greatest of all time, his characters are always so scene stealing different and unique he commits 100%
