In this clip, Gary Payton recounted an incident with his good friend and former teammate Vernon Maxwell. After chirping back-and-forth during practice, Gary said things escalated to the point he armed himself with a 10 lb weight to hit Maxwell but ended up hitting Horace Grant instead, leaving him with a busted head.

Dam I am both Gary Payton and Vernon Maxwell fan both about same height,nearly similar builds in playing days,both mentally tough,being good on both ends of the court. Vernon is slightly older 9-12-65 to Gary 7-23-68, but they did have similar demeanor.

Isn't it ironic depending on who's telling the story what really happened? Gary's version is so clean. It wasn't as big as they made it. You planned to hit your teammate with a weight. I believe Vernon's version told in a it's ugly truth Gary hit a rookie teammate and busted his nose and Vernon challenged you to do the same to him. Vernon even told about the drugs and drinking but the rookie being clean. The truth doesn't need white washing! 🤓💯💯💯
