Thungs are getting even worse for Gary Trent Jr… After making over $18 million last season the shooting guard was looking for a huge raise to $25 million per season from the Toronto Raptors and when they were not ready to pay up he decided to look elsewhere. New reports suggests that when he decided to crawl back to what Masai Ujiri’s front office was actually offering, the Raptors had taken the deal off the table.
Gary Trent Jr has been let down by his agency Klutch Sports led by Rich Paul, and this is the second offseason in a row where it looks like it will cost him a long-term deal. I’ll miss Gary for sure. As much as he might’ve pissed us off on the court sometimes, he’s such a real and humble guy. Hard to dislike someone who carries themself in that manner. Hope he’s able to bounce back and earn that contract himself and Klutch had in mind!

Carried himself in what way? It was just smooth talk and big coats. If there was anyone out of touch with the Raptors this year, Gary is right there behind Dennis schroeder and Jontay.

@@lumpyrex007 he was out of touch because he wasn’t certain where he was going to be next year, or for how much. Don’t speak down on these players if you don’t understand the position they be in. Fans always throw out the human element to the game. It wasn’t an excuse for him to play poorly, but to dismiss his character like he didn’t do a ton of charity work and community events for the city is just lame. Have some respect.

This is what happens when guys over value themselves. He’s not a bad player, but very inconsistent as well. Van Vleet got overpaid in Houston so it won’t happen here in Toronto and now that I think about it, maybe it was good we didn’t get to resign Kawhi with all his injuries!!!

A fumble trade keeping GTJ over Norm Powell. Powell is a strong bench contributor and loved the city. Now he's thriving in Clippers still. We're at a big loss of GTJ walking and no improvement.

The problem with greed and figuring you should always get paid more certainly has backfired on Gary. Should have been content to take the 15 million and play. Another issue is who wants what Brown brings for his salary, also overpaid, overhyped.

Better move for the Raps to pick up Bruce Brown's $23M option than sign Trent Jr. I like the bet that BB's play improves this season while providing a stabilizing veteran presence to the young core, then trade him at the deadline, hopefully for a first round pick. That would be the ideal scenario, and it's very possible IMO. Mesai got lucky that Trent passed on the $15M offer.

Gary Trent is a good 3 point shooter but his playing doesn’t transfer to winning. He doesn’t play defensive and he doesn’t pass. He try to play around in game trying to dunk rather than just getting easy points. No team is paying more than $10 million or under.

He's is great teamate type of guy, never complained to the media about his role with the exception of his dad's commentary on Gary's time in Portland and the overall trade brought him to the Raptors, which is fair father to say in support of his son. But Gary and or Rodney Hood production and play quality over 3-4 years period vs Norman Powell as a Raptor and after he was traded to Portland and then Portland to the Clippers where the are currently utilizing him as a off the bench role -player, he's worth every penny of that 92 million value at the time, so this will go into the record books another Masai and Bobby fumble.

@@michaelbrown4371Kawhi and Danny were on 1 year deals. It was a 1 year gamble and it paid off. Getting nothing for Lowry and Vanvleet along with holding onto Siakam for too long were all egregious mistakes

depends what BB ends up being (traded for or whatever) - still to early to tell and i didnt mind Trent coming back but not for anything close to 25 a year wouldn't mind Trent back at 15 - if BB isn't gone by early Aug(ish) might as well sign him 2-25 (or closer to 30-35)

Explain why the Raptors should pay 25 mil on Gary, who out the gate only plays every other game because he has platypus foot. He's 6'5" and can't finish on a fast break and gets clowned on defense 90% of the time. In my eyes we're better off rolling the dice on any of our 5 new rookies than pay a big chunk of money for somebody we already know is unreliable.

That is too bad Gary Jr Came into Toronto looking like a steal for Norman Powell Now he is not even wanted by his Toronto team and it seems other NBA teams. Though he still is a multi mllionaire set for life so he could retire if he wants to for the rest of his life Though If he wants to keep playing and no NBA team wants him he could go to Europe or China. They hopefully will sign him for a reasonable sized multi million $ contract. Maybe the Lakers would be a good fit for him if they want him for about 5-10 Million per year since they did not get clay thompson
