Nice Moe! Fellow Ford enthusiast here. I do dig your high-boy! I had a 73 F100, currently own a 97 F-250 crewcab and 96 F250 extra cab, and 5 cars over the years. I like your channel cause we think a lot alike. Make something useful out of cast-offs. One suggestion, I find that a carburizing flame yields a better braze for me. Your oxidizing flame is a little hotter than what you need for sheet metal. Give it a try sometime! I think you’ll like it.👨🏼‍🏭
@sixtyfiveford
@sixtyfiveford 3 года назад
I'll have to give that a try. All my brazing is self taught trough trial and error and books.
@hgj2019
@hgj2019 3 года назад
@@sixtyfiveford I did a lot of gas welding in 4130 tubing in airplanes. The flame balance is pretty critical there. You need a SLIGHTLY carburezing flame (more acetylene). The wires thing is an oxidizing flame, as oxygen induces foaming and a raft of bad things in the weld puddle. Normally you like to see a "soft" flame too, as it brings the heat up slowly and envelops the molten metal helping prevent oxidation in the puddle. OA welding is really an art, it's a PAIN compared to MIG or TIG, but the satisfaction of laying down a nice flame weld, or braze, is beyond compare to me. When brazing tou don't iverhear the base. When welding, you stress relieve the joint by making a larger HAZ. In critical 4130 joints I would TIG for filet consistency, then post-heat for stress relief to prevent crack propagation at the weld root. Sorry, I get wound up sometimes.😊
@hgj2019
@hgj2019 3 года назад
@@sixtyfiveford oh, forgot an important OA capability. You can case harden steel by getting it cherry red, then flooding the hot spot with acetylene rich flame, which coats the spot with carbon rich soot. This shooting, or carburizing, will also help shield a molten weld pool from oxidation.

I think this is one of the best ideas I've seen in a while and I plan to make something like it but I live in a really bad part of town so even gas gets stolen.My tools might be safe because no one will think of looking for tools in a gas tank. Would the tools be safe if someone tries to steel gas, finds out the siphon tube only goes down a few inches and notice it's not a gas container. Because the tank will be locked down and no one will be able to tell the weight of it, the thing I need to do to save me from the ladder. is that I'm thinking of making the lower container water proof and have a pipe going all thee way up connecting it to the spout (maybe with a rubber gasket to prevent spills and/or rust). I'll still be able to add a second pipe and ball bearings like you did. The only thing that will look different is that the pipe will be on one side instead of the middle so the layers will be going up like a spiral stair case As an added bonus it will not only make it easier to get to the tools, I'll also have emergency gas.BTW: If you want to piss off thieves ... fill that container with water)

That's a beautiful rig, Man. Just two things I can think of--- One. If I could weld or braze, I'd probably just weld a new bottom plate on that Blitz can. Two. With the very high price of gas, a thief might be tempted to steal that whole can, especially if it was heavy. Yes, I can see you have the steel strap locks, but those have popped on me with regular jerry cans attached, so they're not really secure. All in all, this is an impressive innovation. You have much talent.

Instead of the stake you should've used a piece of pipe or some hollow tubing to reduce weight. Even an empty jerry can is enough to wear your arm out if you have to carry it a bunch. Also, on the bottom, cut a whole in the bottom and put your support up through the hole, that way the load pulls on the support and not your weld, the weld is just a holder, make the material carry the load. On a positive note, it looks awesome and is just the sort of ingenuity folks expect from RU-vid. The bearing idea is absolutely genius, that is engineering Americans expect in manufacturing processes.

really like this one, repurpose "scrap" and give yourself a toolbox that is unlikely to be stolen seems like a pretty good plan. have you got any ideas of how to recicle used up tyres?

+tuga2112 I use the sidewalls for snowblower paddles once in a while or for random rubber scraps. I haven't come across any other real uses though.
