Awesome! Like many, my filler door broke or at least I thought it did. Was thinking I was going to have to make a trip to the dealership and open my pocket book for them. Searched RU-vid and came across your video. Just like you, the hinge pin worked its way up and out of the bottom hole. The whole process to fix the problem took less than 10 minutes from start to finish, including cleaning the assembly while I had it out. I can't thank you enough for saving me and my wallet from the dealership!
Thanks man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That door not closing was bugging me. 15 minutes and done. Hardest part... prying it out once everything is unbolted. 4 tabs hold it in, work the bottom 2 first and then just pry it out, it will take some effort. I used 2 flat head screw drivers. One as prying and the other to push the tabs in.
I just did this after dealing with the loose cap for well over one year. This is a nearly perfect video. I had the pin-slip problem on my 2011. One thing I would add is that there are clips on the underside. Prying up the internal part isn't as easy as it might seem. I had to get it past the clips at three spots. After that, it went lickety-split. Thank you! You saved me between $100-200 at the dealer for a new part.
This worked great on my 2011 F150. I had exactly the same problem with the pin. My pin didn’t come out easily. I used a punch to remove it. The hardest part was getting the assembly back in. Thanks for saving me a visit to the dealership.
Once again, one of the best videos on fixing an F150 fuel door!! Other people make it seem like a 2 person job, standing on your head. This is easy peasey. Thanks man!
10/10 video, my door broke a while back on the 2011 and I had been tinkering with what to do about it, watched your video and fixed it within five minutes. THANK YOU for the quick and clear video.
Hey Parker Boy! Seriously, thanks for taking the time to make this video! Just did what you did and now it's fixed. Added a screw and washer at the base of the pin so it wouldn't pop up again. Thanks to you, my girlfriend thinks I might know WTF I'm doing.
You are the man! Worked like a charm. My pin worked its way up. Saw a tip on another video to put a screw and washer on the bottom so pin won't rise up.
Thanks for posting this. Saved me some money by not having to go to the dealer. I had the same problem with the pin pushing up. The tricky part is that there are 3 clips to remove the assembly, but once you get past that it is very easy to fix.
I literally just fixed my cap while watching this video about 5 minites ago. GREAT VIDEO THANKS ALOT. It was so annoying that I put tape on it for a few days. Now its fixed!!
This was worth watch. I went out to fix mind per the video and had it repaired in 30 min on my 2012 F150. Thank you so much for your time to post this video. I feel like a real mechanic.......but that’s about as far as I will go!
Cool! Thanks for the information. Mine has been loose for years and the garage said I need a whole new assembly which was a few hundred dollars back then. Thank you!!
I agree this is the best video. I have big hands so prying it open instead of reaching behind was more doable for me. They charge you $200 at the dealer only to replace it with plastic again. Thanks for showing how to put the clip back on.
Best how to video yet... great job sir worked like a charm.. only thing for me was my spring was not there and I'm in the Bahamas so ordering one was option number 2 making a spring out of a metal coat hanger was number 1... and I got it done thanks again
Thanks for the video. Mine did this yesterday but I couldn't figure out how to get it fully out of the body. It took me less than 5 minutes to take it out and realign the slots.
Didn't have a dental tool to pull it out a bit. Tried the arm behind the fender. Forget that, Ended up using a painters scraper to grab the lip and pull it hard out. Then slipped a plastic trim tool remover and worked it around. Out it came. Plan replace the assembly. The are cheap on ebay. Mine was not useable after I got done with it,
Cain Beeping - The green tape tipped you off didn’t it? Yes I am an electrician....I now find myself in the mystical world of middle management. LOL Are you as well?
Great video !!!! I will use your video to fix my cap door now. Just wondering......What if you also crazy glue or epoxy that pin in the hole exactly on its slotted position so that it never can work its way back up again ??? Thanks, Gerry from San Diego, CA
Houndsman One - Not as of yet. The first time I had to work on it the spring came off. Running good so far. Thanks for the comment. I assume you run dogs?
Ha, I did Parker Boy. Raised AKC beagles for many years running rabbits. I still have a few ole bread-eaters but running days have reduced considerably. My filler unit is different (2007). The unit must be replaced. The pin broke in 3 pierces. Called dealer (parts); they said $38. I'll order tomorrow and receive Saturday. Thanks again for the video and the info. Have a fine week.
Neighbors have an F150 of this era and a Fiesta both missing the fuel doors. Suppose it is no coincidence he is under his truck working on it at least one weekend a month, sometimes two. Built Ford junk.
ford filler caps used to be the best, now they are garbage, especially the capless fillers, they cant fill up using the new fast flow pumps which most pumps are now,
