All of the content required for the Gas Exchange section for AQA A Level Biology. This includes: surface area to volume ration, single-celled organisms, gas exchange in insect, xerophytic plants and humans. Also, I go through a couple of exam questions and their mark schemes. Please comment if you have any questions! :)

Hi everyone, I didn't mention different lung diseases because you technically don't need to learn about them for the exam, you just need to apply the knowledge from the video into data associated with different lung diseases. The cause/effect of the disease will be stated in the stem of the question usually.

I have an exam in a few weeks on this I don't know if I should be making notes or if I should do practice questions and learn the content through that way. by looking at the mark scheme memorising the answers. what would you say is better ?
@nadeemkhouri4054
@nadeemkhouri4054 3 года назад
I'd say UNDERSTAND the content, make sure you can recall the topics and do many exam questions on topics you struggle with, and even if you still struggle with the exam questions, just use the mark scheme and make sure you understand how they got the answer and try to learn from your mistakes. I have an end of year biology exam in a few weeks too. Good luck :))

Hi! I would agree with Nadeem, so first of all, make sure that you've understood everything from your lesson/revision (please ask if you're the slightest bit unsure!). It's different for each person, but what worked for me was to reform the content into questions and make flashcards. For example, you would "Describe the adaptations of alveoli" on one side and "large surface area etc" on the other, and keep testing yourself until you've got them all right. I would then do as many practice questions as possible, look at the mark scheme, and add to your notes/flashcards the phrases that gain marks in the questions to give you a boost in the exam. Read the examiner's report (if it's available) to learn from previous students' mistakes. You could also try "blurting", where you write out everything you know, then fill in the gaps with a different colour, or make flashcards on the gaps in your knowledge. I have a couple of videos on exam skills if you want to check them out. Good luck!

13:57 you used the answer from the stem of the question, that means when they ask you how did they etc etc you need to look back at the context
@AlevelBiologyHelp
@AlevelBiologyHelp 3 года назад
Yes that's correct! You need to refer to the method that they used!

at 9:10 you mentioned that the cuticle rolls to cover stomata snd how that lowers the water potential gradient and less water is lost by evaporation and you explain how the rolling of the cuticle lowers the water potenial. ps your videos are a life saver

05:59 states that one of the adaptations for gas exchange in fish is that the filaments are thin increasing the rate of diffusion. doesnt the rate of diffusion decrease becuase that is what I saw in the mark scheme???
@BawaDumi-Leslie
@BawaDumi-Leslie 4 месяца назад
I think it increases because it’s thin so it has a shorter diffusion distance = increase rate of diffusion

at 1:19 when you mention ficks law I've never come across it so im a bit confused on whether we need to know it or not :)
@AO-cu7xp
@AO-cu7xp 2 года назад
Fick's law was part of the old AQA specification and is not on the specification anymore. So, no you do not need to know it for this exam board any more, it just helps with a better understanding of diffusion rates. :)

How do you know the answers so specifically I struggle with this and end up writing too much
@AlevelBiologyHelp
@AlevelBiologyHelp 2 года назад
I used to do that when I was doing my A Levels. My advice would be to practise loads of exam questions and study the mark scheme so you get used to how much you need to write. I have a video on overcoming the mark scheme if you might find that useful :)
