This is another ATCO collection video - I've always had to deal with my Gas Generators when old gas clogs them up. Ethanol has normally the problem. Hope using Ethanol-Free Gas may fix that problem. We'll see -- Atco

Hi Atco. Glad to see you back on RU-vid. Ethanol is horrible for small engines. Since moving to Atlantic Canada I found local high octane fuel is ethanol free. Small engines run better on 91 octane fuel and I still use fuel stabilizer. I've had no problems with my generator, mower, or snow blower. I'm unaware of anyone local who sells the gallon cans but apparently STIHL retailers have a similar product.

Hi RPM - Apparently it's available at gas stations in Virginia but I'd would have to buy a lot to drive 75 miles from home to get there. See ya -- Atco

Interesting facts on fuel in the Northeast. I just bought a ranch in California it's also a few acres. But we don't have Ethanol here. What I use is highest octane fuels. I can get 6-8 years before I have trouble running a engine well.

Hi Havoc - You know, me and buddies would pull out old lawn mowers from the junk dumps. We'd easily get 'em running, and often have old gas in the tanks. The gas always still worked. Never had carbs locked up due to gum until this ethanol stuff screwed things up. I'm aware now that many or even most states have non=ethanol gas stations. Not us in Maryland (sigh). See ya -- Atco

Hi ATCO, good to see you. Some marinas have no-ethanol gas for older boat motors.. I'm converting my generator to dual fuel with a PROPANE kit. I hope to run it on a 20# tank for a day. That will be about 18$/day. 8 gal of 87 octane ethanol gas would be 28$+/partial day. If you use cheap gas, run it dry and shut off the valve until you use it. The trick is to empty the carburator when not in use.
@atco21117
@atco21117 Год назад
I've thought about that too. Put out a video if you can and show how the conversion went. See ya -- Atco

Yup, I figured this out a couple years ago. I used to use fuel stabilizer and that 10% ethanol gas and in the spring I'd have to take the carb off my pressure washer and put it in my ultrasonic cleaner to clean the gummy yellow crud out of the carb. A station 3 miles up the road from me sells non-ethanol gas and I started buying it for all my small engines. Pressure washer, push mower, riding mower, leaf blower, chainsaw... I run it in all of them and now I don't even bother using fuel stabilizer over the winter and they fire right up in the spring. I don't have any generators, but along with our gas furnace we also have a vent free gas wall mounted heater and a kerosene heater if the power goes out, along with about half a dozen kerosene lamps and lanterns if we need light in a power outage. I don't worry about keeping food cold as if the power goes out in the winter I just put everything on the back deck and if it's in the summer, unless the outage lasts more than a day or two everything in the freezers will stay frozen and what does thaw I'll cook out on the (charcoal) griller/smoker. Our non ethanol gas station is owned by Co-Op, called CountryMark and their refineries are right here in Indiana. Guess I lucked out because gas there is maybe a nickel more a gallon than the ethanol gas at walmart. Right now it's about 3.35 a gallon.

That is good to hear how well you've done with your small engines using ethanol-free gas! Hope I do as well! Thanks for your comment! -- Atco

Yikes!! $25 for a gallon!! Here in Florida the Wawa gas stations here all sell ethanol free gas .. runs about $5 a gallon. Totally agree though .. I run ethanol free in all my small engines and never have an issue, so the logic is sound!! Lowes also sells TruFuel .. same stuff but pricey!

Hi Pigalino - Man, I had no idea how many states sell ethanol-free gas, and cheap too! Wow, I guess us in Maryland just get screwed. Oh well.... See ya -- Atco

Hi Ace - My Flea Market days are rare now. I got too much stuff already, and don't need anymore. Trying to see stuff as I can. Planned to sell things at the hamfests last year but they kept being rained out. So, we'll see how it goes next season. See ya -- Atco

Great advice but too late for me. I have a 2kw Generac generator which is all gummed up. I need to tear it apart and clean the carb most likely. It runs but rough and I have to leave the choke on even after it warms. Here in PA our local Rutters sells ethanol-free gas for about $1 more per gallon then regular.
@atco21117
@atco21117 Год назад
Hi James - Yep, that's the problem. That's great to have such nice size generator. Don't wait too long to clean that carburetor or when you really need that generator it many not run. If nothing else, drain out all the old gas in the tank and replace it with non-ethanol gas. It may not clean the carb, but should stop it from getting worse. I didn't know that PA sells non-ethanol gas. Good to know. See ya -- Atco

So all gasoline at the pumps where you live is treated with ethanol? Have you ever had to go out of state to buy gas?
@atco21117
@atco21117 Год назад
Hi RJC - I just thought most of all states have changed to ethanol like us in Maryland. Now I see most don't. I can get it in Virginia, but that's a 75 mile drive for me to go there. At least I can get it here, although at a cost! See ya -- Atco

@atco21117 Год назад
Hi Paul = I got 3 of 'em and they're great for keepng the lights and TV on when power goes down. But for bigger things, especially with longer power outs, the gas generators are used for heat, keeping the fridge running, and of course gotta have my Keurig coffee! See ya -- Atco.
