Hi Guys - I grew up in the 60s. I try not to live in the past, but I have brought back a lot of memories from things I enjoyed growing up. You'll see a variety of videos of things that I remember. Do you remember 8-tracks & 45 record players? I've got an interest in early phonographs as well with my Victrola & Amberola Edison. Do you remember those first PCs we had? Wow, they were something to have in the early 80s. Commodore, Atari .. etc. I've got quite a museum of them. Check out my channel, I'd enjoy hearing from you! -- Atco
Only lingering issue is if you have a few clouds going by and the light level drops, you have to go out and do the unplug/replug, Now when I adjust the panel I always check the input watts. It’s a minor annoyance.
Hi Gary - that's funny! Yeah, actually I did have one guy came up and asked me in a store once, were you on RU-vid, thought he saw me there. That was cool. In 10 years of my channel, that's the only time that's happened to me, but cool! See ya -- Atco
Well Havoc, at times I may not have been pleased being in the service, but can't even think what my life would have changed if I hadn't. See ya -- Atco
Another story: my cousin was travelling & saw a store with his same last name so he went in & asked the owner if they could be related & such & seemed to find no connection but just before he left, the guy said, "By the way, my name is so n so Trower", which is my name & my cousins mother's maiden name & a RARE name but he thought if he then mentioned that, the guy would just think he was a weirdo so he left without saying anything more! lol
OMG, I have a couple similar stories...When I was a kid in St. Louis, we had neighbors called the Millers. We never ran into them anywhere locally, but we ran into them in Williamsburg VA one time!!! But that's just the beginning...in 1999, my dad & I rode bikes across MO on this trail called The Katy Trail....While doing this we met this family called The Mooreheads doing the same thing....I wrote a series of articles for the local newspaper about our adventures...Then a few months later, my parents were at a bakery where Mrs. Miller happened to work & she had read my articles so when she saw my dad, she mentioned The Katy Trail....The woman standing behind my parents then says, "Oh my God, you are Dave Trower from The Katy Trail???!!! I'm Mrs. Moorehead!!!!" What are the odds?? But the insanity doesn't end there!!! One of the tiny towns along the Katy where we & Mooreheads both had lunch was where Mrs. Miller grew up!!! Like a town of 200!!!!
Hi Havoc - I don't try to collect Ipods, but I still got a few of 'em and still use 'em here and there. Hey, the wife wanted to go to Michael's for craft stuff. I told her I'd just look around at the toys and models while I'm there. But, I found that all the models of cars/planes etc are gone. Guess just no demand anymore. Too bad. Sure is a different life then we were kids. I still play with my models. Just made a model of the Time Machine a few months ago! See ya -- Atco
Hello, in my case i have an old Artin track that needs more power as well . The current converter says output DC 6v 1.2 A , if I want to change it for a laptop converter does it needs to be dc output 6v as well ?
I joined in 1979.mWent to basic July 26, 79. It was a shock to see Vietnam members in all of our squadron flights. They seemed tiered and their uniforms were not the best looking. If you referred to them as Sir, they would usually say " Don't call me SIR, I work for a living." Many smoked heavily, and alcohol was their chose of friends. I was assigned my first dorm room. I thought wow I have a room. Well it was about 20' x 20' It was small and I am not sure of the measurements. But picture this. NO WINDOWS, a bunkbed against the back wall, the beds went right to left and only had 2 feet
Well, it was different between people drafted in the service rather than signed up. Plus, the war in Asia was closing up and nobody was worried too much about having your clothes all nice, even the officers didn't care. But a big surprise when I got back to the USA again! Half the time I was in the Air Force I did have a room by myself. That was nice. See ya -- Atco
Almost swallowed my cigar when you didn't say "Atco Here" at the opening. Anyhow, really enjoyed your video and hope for many more. I have used ipod-nanos (version 6) to listen to books on tape for many years. I prefer that model because of the nice clip. When they wear out, mostly the switch, sell or trade on ebay and buy a refurbished one. Keep up the entertaining of we youtube viewers.
Hi Erik - Hitting the community yard sales work best for me. When they put out signs, anyone who lives in the area can put something out that wouldn't go thru the work to setup a yard sale. This last one was fun. Might do it again. See ya -- Atco
Great to see you back at yard sales ATCO .. I love the yard sale videos!! Whatever happened to all the old videos about yard sales you deleted them?? That was a great score on those iPods!
Hey Atco! Good to see you, and I hope you're doing well. Yard sales are few and far between where I live, so I tend to check them out when they pop up. More often than not, I end up walking away empty-handed because nothing interests me.
Hi rjc - too often yard sales find nothing I'm interested for (kids clothes, etc). But I've done best with the community yard sales. People there can just put your stuff out and not have to do anything else. You never know what will could show up! See ya -- Atco
Sir I’m so glad to see you back on your video. Really enjoy your channel. Honestly though just the words of yard sale makes me sick at my stomach. I have thrown away so much garbage that I’ve bought at yard sales. I’m not interested in anymore however I do love watching you enjoy yourself more power to you, God bless brother Travis in ky
I have a 3rd generation iPod that still works. Had to go to Best Buy to buy a cable for it. I was able to connect to my new iMac desktop and was able to charge it. Haven’t really used it though?
Hi Paul - Haven't gotten to any of my stuff yet to see if it works. My guess, at least a few of those Nanos will work. Don't really need 'em, I still got a couple of my own. Will land up giving 'em up to friends. Had fun finding things at the yard sale! See ya -- Atco
Hi td7456 - To make it fun for me, you gotta feel like doing it. In the past you could spend hours driving around and find nothing. So, when it hits ya, just enjoy. Stop once your done and go eat! See ya -- Atco
Hi Arcade - It's funny how the IPODS are obsolete now. I still have a couple myself and do use them here and there. If these Nanos work, I'll probably give 'em up for friends. See ya -- Atco
I completely get it.........although not a lot of people will. I've still got my Commodore 64, the one I received for my 13th Birthday back in 1983. Just looking at it gives me pleasure and makes me feel good, and it always will. It doesn't matter whether it's an old car, a dog or a Commodore 64, there's something that gives all of us a sense of enjoyment and satisfaction.
I can't really say I remember anything about vintage pc's. The 1st one I ever owned (and it was old at the time) was a Zenith Data Systems pc with windows 3.1 and I think the only thing I could ever do on it was play solitaire, lol. In office machines class back in high school I briefly dabbled with the "PC"s they had...a Wang, and an IBM Color Computer that took up most of a cafeteria table. I always associated computers back then with banks and punch cards and big tape reels, you know, stuff rocket scientists messed with. The first I ever went online was with a WebTV by Magnavox/Philips and the first computer I bought new was a Dell Inspiron in 2007 with Windows Vista. I've always been slow to adapt to new stuff. My first cell phone is my current one. Had a land line up till the year before last. My truck is a '98 Ranger and it's only the 2nd vehicle I've ever had with fuel injection. I must confess I'm better with carburetors, lol.
Hi Rebel - Man, Wang, that I never did get one of. I remember trying to get into Wang for a job once, but no luck. It was so exciting in the 70s and 80s when things weren't standard yet. Once Windows 3.1 came out, we knew that's the standard now (of course, Apple had their OS standard as well). Good to hear from you -- Atco
Hi Atco. Great to hear from you again. Retro technology is almost always fun.Vintage computers, stereos, gramophones, 8 tracks, slot cars, trains...take your pick...are fun nostalgia for those of us of a certain age. As you said even merely looking at these aging artifacts remind us of youth, or simpler times, or past passions. Again, great to see you post a new video.
Hi Jay_Tee - Well, like anything else eventually those vintage PCs in my basement had to go. But showing off those vintage PCs to young kids at schools and libraries made it work keeping those PCs in my basement all those days! See ya -- Atco
Hey Atco, good to see you. Nice to hear you talking about the early PC days. Don’t know if I ever mentioned it on my channel, I worked in the early PC days at a hospital, in the IT Department’s infancy. People probably don’t realize how expensive the early IBM’s were. We started putting our own together, as soon as the clones started popping up. I installed the hospital’s first network, a Novell operating system, to replace a dedicated word processing system. Those were exciting days. Cool seeing those Sitting there behind you. Take care old friend.
Man, good to hear from you Al - Funny, back in the 80s I was working with a rather small company. They had only about 5 PCs and I was only one who knew what to do with them, so I started working on the network along with my normal job. Really like it so got my Novell certificate and left for a bigger company and eventually became the network manager. It was a fun time. See ya -- Atco
@@atco21117 Yep, Novell was the King, who’d have thought, they’d go down the tubes. I stayed with the company that bought the hospital, moved to the company Information Center, ended up a Senior Network Engineer, before retiring. It was a good career and I enjoyed it. Started getting weird at the end, people getting promoted and hired for reasons other than qualifications, ticking boxes. I retired at a good time and I’m enjoying retirement, don’t miss work at all. I’m busy enough to wonder how I found time to work😂. You always struck me as that kind of guy, Atco, keep enjoying life, buddy.
Just saw this video tonight. Served from 1971 to 1975 only two places. First was a direct assignment from basicto a Vietnam tour at Nakon Phenom RTAFB then three years at Wright Patterson AFB. At the end of your video I noticed you were heading back to Atlanta. I was born in Atlanta. And except for my time in the Air Force I have lived in this area my entire life. My time in the Air Force was a bit unusual to say the least, but I wouldn't take anything for having served. Never went to any Tech School DDA from Basic to Secret Base in Northern Thailand then directly to Foreign Technology Division at Wright Pat. NO FORMAL training for either, not even OJT. Just sink or swim.
Hi Tom - Me 1971-1975 too. I never talk about the bad side of those 4 years, but I was sure a different person when I got in as I was 4 years later when I got out. Yet, it made me what I am as an adult. Thanks for sharing your time in the Air Force. See ya -- Atco
@@atco21117 Thanks for your reply. Did not mention it in my previous comment, but after watching some of your other videos I thought I would identify myself a little better. WA4GIM 73
Good to see you again! Been subbed since the 8-track days! I dig these videos, too (and the ones you did about various things like 8mm films, interesting toys, replicas etc) you're a good story teller and it's fun to hear your perspective having grown up with these movies and items. Thanks for some new recommendations - I was surprised how many of these I haven't seen considering how much MST3K, Riff Trax, Svengoolie etc I've watched over the years. 😅
Ahh... Elvira! I wanted to put some pictures of her on my video, but I understand she won't let anyone use her pictures without paying. So, I used the DVDs instead
Not all newer version of movies are as good from the original. "The Thing" with Kurt Russell in the 80s was done very well. Even though I really love the 1960 version of "The Time Machine", I gotta admit the 2002 version was done well too! -- Atco
Hi Joseph! There are a lot of special effects in movies today. Problem though that sometimes get too much into the SE and lose the story. The old movies have to bring in the characters deeper to keep the audience in without just SE. Great to hear from you again, and thanks for your nice comments! See ya -- Atco
