The biggest make people make with gas inserts is that they actually need a gas fireplace. They seem similar, but they are different in size and install. Watch as Trevor explains the difference between the two and this video will help you while you’re on your search for a new insert or fireplace.
Gas inserts are meant to fit into an already existing fireplace. For an insert to work there will need to be an old already created fire box thats non-combustible. From there you will push in the insert into the old firebox and then order the correct sound to make the insert fit correctly. Gas inserts are great because they work great as a heater. An insert will include blowers and get to around 600-700 degrees and apply radiant heat to any home.
Gas fire places are different because they have a variety of different sizes. Most of these fireplaces won’t fit into an already existing fireplace. We encourage people to buy these fireplaces if they have a new home they’re remodeling. All of these fireplaces can be added into most walls with 2x4’s. The piping system is somewhat similar to inserts, but they don’t need a chimney! Our biggest plus of a gas fireplace is that there is no size restraints. You can make these fireplaces as large as you want.

This ru-vid.comUgkxATHBlMJwipGgVWseuAFKvDQ_5R4_lywo unit was an easy install and turned out amazing. The dimensions were exact! I took a chance and built the wall prior to receiving the unit which arrived sooner than expected and it fit right in the space I constructed. The heat output is perfect for the space we needed and made the room exactly how we envisioned it to turn out. I am happy to answer any questions to the best of my ability. Thank you for the awesome product just in time for the holidays.

This is a very informative series of videos. They provide a lot more information than I realized. I have an existing wood burning fireplace in my den that actually gives off too much heat within an hour or so of lighting a fire such that I keep the doors closed to let less heat into the room. Eventually the brick, frame and glass heat up enough that convection alone brings the temperature of the room up. I thought I might want a gas insert, but with that kind of efficiency it would probably make the room uncomfortably warm. I like the fire for the esthetic rather than the utility of gaining heat so I'm probably in the market for a gas log set. I must be one of the few people who has to take the less expensive option. That's an option I rarely have. What I like the best about the gas units is that the fire can be an instant, on instant off unit so that I can turn it off when I leave the room and not have to be concerned with an untended fire.

Looking at a new fireplace for a new build man cave timber frame construction 21’x33’. It will have baseboard heat but would like a gas fireplace also, I have access to natural gas and bottled gas. Which is best and most cost effective? I’d love to add a log burner but city rules won’t allow. So gas it is.

You said the magic word with gas insert - “heat”. I don’t want one just for show. I want it to warm the place up. I thought the only difference was the way they looked. We have an old wood burner we want to update. Thanks for the video!

Thanks for the video. Unfortunately, I am still not so sure whether I need a fireplace or fireplace insert. I am doing a condo reno where there was an old gas fireplace connected to a B vent pipe. We will be demolishing almost everything, including the fireplace and drywall, except the B vent pipe since it is a condo. We will be putting in new framing and mechanical, etc. So in this case, do I need to get a fireplace or a fireplace insert? It seems that I need a new fireplace, but as there will be new framing (building a new fire box with non-combustible materials?), will a fireplace insert serve the purpose?
@embersliving
@embersliving 6 месяцев назад
You only get an insert if there is a masonry set up for the fireplace made of bricks or stone or something. If it just goes into a wall you need a gas fireplace.

I thought I was clear but now I am more confused. I have a gas fireplace in an apartment and now broke. I have been looking for direct vent gas insert (it has vent go through the wall to the side of the patio)...am I on the wrong direction?
@embersliving
@embersliving Год назад
So a gas insert will fit into a fireplace that already has a hearth area,. a gas firepalce will jusr fit into a wall.

@@embersliving I guess it will be an inset then? I talked to some shop and they offered valor h3. I love all that but the final price for the project to be done just made my jaw drop... I just a robust but simple one. I can't afford H3🥲

So if I have an old Majestic wood burning “fireplace” 34” opening would I be looking for an insert? Can a direct vent style be retrofitted in “inexpensively” with the existing metal pipe if I wanted to remove the whole thing and start over l? or would I need a more expensive total replacement?
@embersliving
@embersliving 2 года назад
probably more expensive

So a gas insert is applicable in old wood burning stone setups. Ours is a wood burning metal trimmed fireplace installed in the 80’s. Look like gas models nowadays .

I have a fireplace in my new home and I was told during the home sale that it was capable of burning wood or being gas. It had gas logs in it. It has a gas knob to the side of the fireplace and a tube with gas supply the runs through the middle of the fireplace. It has an open flew and a damper and I was told it was originally a wood fireplace. I’m concerned because I’m not finding a bunch of information saying it’s not possible for it to be compatible for gas and wood. How can I tell?
