Gas Light has become a common word. It originates from a play written by Patrick Hamilton in 1938 about couple living in a dark and dreary Victorian house. Mr. Jack Manningham is continually pushing and manipulating his wife Bella Manningham to the point where she believes she is crazy.
In this video I read through the first 20 pages to take a look at the dialogue and see how Hamilton does it. For all plays the dialogue is king. It must carry the story, develop the characters, logically connect, and interest the audience. We'll take a look to see how the play does works and creates a eerie atmosphere of tension.

Dope! I got really into reading plays to study the dialogue, so glad to have that decision reinforce. Gotta buy me a copy of Gaslight now

Awesome! Plays are a really good place to start. If you're looking for more recommendations, I'd suggest Glengary Glen Ross, What If (or the Movie is also good), and A Few Good Men (or anything by Aaron Sorkin has really great snappy dialogue.)
