To me, as a blue's/ Rock fan and normally not liking "pop" songs, this is more than that. It was pretty complex and had a message too. One of my all time favorites. And I'm more a Blue's/ Rock guys. Perfect song for the mud 80s. Not techno but real music.

This song is about the quest for power, and how it can have unfortunate consequences. Curt Smith of Tears For Fears said that although musically this is quite a catchy song, its lyrical theme is actually pretty dark. Oh my god I was listening to this song just last week and thought “Lex would enjoy this groove.” And she did! So funny. And a lot of the video shows the singer driving in a convertible, like on a road trip. She called it! You’ve probably heard this in grocery stores and drugstores, it gets played a lot. If you’re looking for more Tears For Fears, I think you’d really love the message and vibe of “Shout.” Probably their most famous song, and for good reason. Very catchy too!

They split for a while then got back together. During the split, Roland Orzabal released a couple albums under the TFF name. “Elemental” is one of them… it’s a must-listen, start to finish. Lex saying that it has a gas station vibe is funny, as a gas station does feature on the official video when the dancers appear.

Best 80s band without doubt and one of the best in the 90s. Whether its catchy singles or thought provoking album tracks and now after an 18year gap they have a new album in the works due to drop in February and a pretty extensive US section of their tour in May-June 22

Excellent, excellent track. One of the absolute best night driving songs, right behind U2's "New Years Day." I insist on ending all my karaoke sessions with this. If you want more Tears for Fears, check out "Shout."

Funny you guys should say this is a gas station song, because the MTV video of this song has the band members cruising around in a convertible MG(?) in the gloaming, and they do stop at a gas station and see some cool dancers. A fun watch. And very chill.

Gas station?? These to two artists had no idea they were making a banger! This speaks truth and honesty and is so pure. They never anticipated it was going to go “pop”.

Last song written for the album Songs from the Big Chair. This is the most popular album of Tears for Fears. Rekeased in 1985. Written by Chris Hughes, Ian Stanley and Roland Orzabal. IS played keyboards before he quit. CH was hired to produce the album. He was the drummer for Adam Ant. The song has a drum loop like Waterfront, written and performed by Simple Minds. CH played the loop and asked RO to play 2 guitar chords. This bored RO. IS played synthesizers throughout the song. RO wrote the lyrics. Curt Smith sang the lead vocals. This song was the 3rd one released. It became their most popular song! Suggested next TFF video: Break It Down Again. 🇬🇧 Influence. Glass Tiger singer Alan Frew said that this song inspired their hit Don't Forget Me When I'm Gone. 🇨🇦 Suggested video Glass Tiger. Don't Forget Me When I'm Gone.

Always remember when listening to an 80's sad or deep song that we were living under the constant reality of possible nuclear war. The Cold War was at it's highest tension with Russia and the USA spending record amounts on nuclear programs and even teenagers and young adults couldn't totally escape the stress.
