Not using the Turbo button would be equivalent to backing down the throttle on the Toro, if mowers still had throttles. Using the Turbo is using the full power of the Ego so why not use it. I do have the Ego mower, blower, snow blower, et.

Love it. I like the freedom that battery power gives. My gas powered equipment always started and ran because I would drain the gas and store the tool properly if I wasn't going to use it within a month. Then I would change the oil, air filter, plug, etc every season. It worked great but I didn't like the maintenance. I gave it all away and bought Ego everything. Ego makes incredible products and has an a great team of engineers designing them.

That was a fun watch. Especially loved you mapquesting around your neighborhood, hilarious. Appreciate you putting all those tests together for us too. I'll disagree on the cost of gas ownership though. At age 50 and cutting grass since childhood, I've had a lot of mowers that went 10 years on a spark plug, a quarter gallon cuts my 5,000 ft2 twice, and oil is only 13-15 oz annually ($2 or so). Add an air filter anually and 6.5 gallons of fuel (we cut weekly in FL) and Im about $30 a year total with everything. Hope this helps offer another perspective on costs. Battery - we're all familiar with Lipos from our cell phones & laptops and they do loose significant capacity over a few years let alone 5. I feel like it would have been fair to add the cost of a 2nd 10,000 mAh battery to the Egos 5 year estimate... especially here in hot Florida where we mow year round. Heat and charge cycles kill lipos. Take that as gospel from an old RC guy. Thanks again. Great video.

I feel like Ego is quite close with this one. Improve the screamy-winey Touch Drive sound and button-delay, give us a sturdy blade that's at least 21" long (that one is actually 20 & 7/8th inches even though it says 22" on the deck decal and is thin, soft metal) and give us two 10,000 mAh batteries so that we can cover the same sq footage a gasser can at 3,350 rpm... and do it all for the price of a premium gas mower ($800-$1,000). They do that and at least the performance and initial value will be there. Still, one has to add the cost of new batteries every 4-5 years ($500 ish each). That's the REAL hurdle for electric and its a legitimate roadblock for now.

@@AEAC I agree with all that you said I'm in the market for a new mower and am leaning towards the Ryobi multiblade mower that's $699 but I'm unsure... I've bought 2 used mowers with Briggs and Stratton engines on them The first one worked flawlessly the first mow, then I couldn't get it started... I managed to get it running (but it burns a ton of gas now) and was told I'd want to look at replacing the engine due to the carb on tank design, as i would be fighting that every time i used it The second mower was a Murray (snapper style) riding mower with an 8.75 B&S engine and I cut 4 cuts on it and went to go start it this week and could not get it started (even tried starting fluid) I'm thinking it has a bent valve due to it blowing an air/gas mixture back through the carb and I can't be bothered to keep buying used mowers if they're not going to last. I really think I should make the jump to a battery mower but man there's so many different options, currently all my tools are Milwaukie but I can only budget $600 give or take for a new mower so it's not an option.

My dad had a gas mower he used with little maintenance for almost 10yrs. The deck rusted through about 5yrs in, but we couldn’t find a replacement so he just patched it and just kept running it. Finally my brother and I decided he shouldn’t have to huff all that exhaust, which is something I don’t see anyone bring up when they do these comparisons. We got him an ego, which was about $400, 6AH battery included. It’s been two years and it’s running well, with no complaints. His doesn’t have a turbo button, but if it did it would be used. So why wouldn’t you?

@@TheLawnReview I don't think people test cars by limiting to "normal acceleration" or "only press half way on the paddle on EV cars" or "can not exceed 4,000rpm...just to be fair??" but always maximum limitation of the gas/EV motors... are the complainers gas mower owners?🤣🤣 Does not a gas mower uses more petrol fuel with less runtime per fill up (at higher cost) when running at higher rpm (if, they can!) or encounter thick/wet grass or when modified to run at higher rpm? How is that different than battery mowers/ The fact is, without regular maintenance (oil, spark, filter, belt, fuel...) on the gas motor, it's power decreases much more than when it's new vs a brushless motor (look mom, no rushes!!) will provide it's peak power more consistently as long as the battery retaining it's charge over 80%.

It seems to me that it would be perfectly fair to use the EGO's turbo button, assuming you also factor in runtime in the same test sequence. The manufacturer included it as a feature on the device, so it's part of the design and function being evaluated. Since the turbo button would hypothetically shorten its runtime, its trade-off needs to be somehow factored into the results.

For the turbo button - I think the way you tested it in this video was perfect. You made it an apples to apples comparison as much as possible, then separated out the independent variables but still showed the impact it would have had on the apples to apples test.

I think it simply comes down to owner preference. If you are ok with doing a little bit of maintenance the toro is going to have great longevity and has the ability to be repaired if something goes wrong. The Ego is a great lawn mower for those who want very little year-to-year maintenance however when something does go wrong, your local small engine mechanic likely wont be able to fix it. The gas mower is likely the long term solution if you want to know what you are getting in to, where as the electric mower is excellent for those who just wanna go out and mow, sharpen the blades occasionally, and hang it in the winter. Much better package for the non lawn enthusiast or new homeowner. Cant fault anyone for choosing either.

I bought a Ego mower in 2016, for about $450, that came with a 5ah battery and isn't self-propelled. One advantage to this push mower is it's much lighter. About 3 years ago, I noticed the battery performance getting weaker. I bought a Ego chainsaw with a 5ah battery for $350 in 2021. That came with a superior battery and I use it for the mower and the chainsaw. My original battery still works and I can swap it in to finish the lawn, when necessary. Other than the new battery, I've spent no money and very little time maintaining this lawnmower. I should have replaced my blade by now but it's still on the original and working well. I try to keep the mower and bag catcher reasonably clean. I have spent a couple hours maintaining my chainsaw and pole chainsaw, along with the string trimmer. I average about $15 per year for string line. There has been nearly no maintenance needed for the hedge trimmer, edging tool or lawnmower. My 2.5ah battery that came with the string trimmer in 2020 is still running perfectly and I swap it between the edger and hedge trimmer and I've rarely had the battery die while using all of them consecutively on the same day. The pole saw will also work on the 2.5ah battery but I use the 5ah battery with it too.

I bought my Poulan Pro B&S powered gas push mower back in 2004. This will be its 21st season, and it still starts on the first pull. (I do meticulous maintenance on all of my equipment.) No one could make me believe I would have an EGO mower for 21 years.

I run a commercial mowing business and I tried battery powered mowers for awhile and here's the issue. Batteries run about 20 mins commercially each if that in thick, tall grass properties. Gas powered about 3 1/2 hours. Then 2 mins to fill right back up and start again.

Was it EGO mowers you had tried? model? In Australia, EGO has the Peak Power (dual battery) LMX5307SP-2 kit with 2 x 12.0Ah that produce ~14.0 ft-lb torque. Even with my Peak Power LM2142SP brushless motor @ 8.5 ft-lb torque with 2 x 12.0Ah batteries and High Lift blade setup in heavy grass will give me 180min of runtime cutting at 3" from 12".

Recently bought an Ego. It constantly bogs down and stops in even medium density grass and the battery lasts about 20 minutes - not enough for my medium size lawn. Am listing it for sale and have ordered a gasoline powered mower.

I have a Ryobi, which I bought to keep battery consistency with their blower and weed eater. This is before I saw your testing of course, so now I'm regretting that. I won't go back to gas, but I might give up on the battery consistency part. I just can't go back to gas, as electric has spoiled me in just not having to go and get the gas, keeping 2 cans, one for 2-stroke engines, 1 for regular, the smell, the spills, the gas getting old over the winter, etc, etc. Love the video! Surprised you didn't get more odd looks from the neighbors!

Thanks for the kind words. Gas is a lot of maintenance and electric is hit or miss. With the right electric, you can have the best set up. My neighbors are used to this by now haha.

I paid $1,000 for an EGO mower with a 10ah battery, plus I paid $1,000 for 2 extra 10ah batteries. I registered them at 133 days instead of the required 90 days, which lowered the battery warranty from 3 years to 1 year. I've had the mower for 2.5 years and all three batteries died at different times within 30 days of each other. I keep them in the house, so it's not a storage temperature issue. Customer service said I'm SOL. Will never buy another EGO product. Going to gas.

Sadly, this is the reality of chemical batteries. I recommend staying away from electric until solid state batteries are in the market. The TCO for electric vehicles and larger lawn equipment is quite bad. High initial cost, low lifespan, and unrepairable.

Gas motors on push mowers simply because they aren't a powerful imo, the damn batteries are too expensive to replace. Then you have charging time for the batteries. Nope like my Toros, both gas!!

I have one of the 1st generation Egos with 2 batteries, still running well after 8yrs I love I don't have to store gas, it is quiet, and yes the headlight are great because in GA/TX I normally cut my grass as the sun it going down. The fold up storage option and the only actual maintenance was changing my blade, I do have a issue with clogging. Lastly Since I have the weed eater, saw and blower the battery option is great cause I don't store any equipment with gas in it

all fun and games until you want to use both of them for 15 years. That Toro will outlast the Ego by a large margin. That battery will degrade and runtime will be half of what it is now in 5-6 years. At $500 for a new battery it's insane. I had a Ego mower and sold it because I didn't want to buy a new battery down the road.

I think you’re right in the long run. I got this Toro in the fall and used it once. Tried to fire it up for this video and it wouldn’t work. Took it to get serviced and they had to completely replace the carburetor.

I believe that motor has a plastic carb and it needs to be drained regardless of use. Gas can’t sit at the bottom of the bowl

I have used my new Ego mower 4 times now and I always use the turbo selection. The cut is exceptional and surpasses my Honda 217. Besides, mowing on turbo, the transmission sound is drowned out.

Old lady here with a big question I need answers to. My of craftsman mower isn’t quite so self propelled anymore and was thinking of going to an Ego as my kids have them. I love the light weight but not the cut so much. They have small yards and not a lot of obstructions. Yes I do their yard work as it keeps me busy and helps them out. Is this new model less heavy than mine❓maneuverability❓as I have a big yard and lots to go around. Would love some advise from you as the retailers do not have that kind of input, only stats from the 🤗

RU-vid: Please fix this cruddy error with that advertising money you are getting that tortures all of us. Also, get some standards when it comes to where the ad is coming from and follow CRTC, FCC and other broadcasting standards when it comes to those ads. I highly doubt that. The HRX217 has the best cut of any mower I have used. Due to planned obsolescence, my Honda mower will outlast the Ego tenfold as well.

I bought a battery powered mower because that's all my city offers. The battery stopped charging after 18 months. I drove 2 hours away to buy a gas mower. Fuck California regulations.

one of the best head to head tests i have seen. seemed to keep out bias really well! i recently purchased the aluminium deck mower and I am very happy with it! Cut quality is in a league of its own, i recomend trying it with a slight pitch on the front wheel for a wavey and clean cut look.

Just the other night at around 10:30pm my back neighbor turned on a super bright flood light in his back yard. I thought it was odd but didn’t think anything of it until 15 minutes later when I hear a gas powered lawnmower going. I couldn’t believe he was mowing so late.

@@mracer8He more than likely just made it up. I've had a Honda for almost 20 years and haven't even spent half of that which includes gas and an extra set of blades. I did buy a mid level Ego to cut the grass at my business and it's terrible, cuts poorly and feels like I am pushing a Fisher Price toy lawnmower.

He said, " taking it somewhere for service." $550 over 5 years for oil, filters (air, fuel, and oil), plugs & blade sharpening is on the lower side, if anything. The table turns when you do maintenance yourself (which many do).

@@michaelruth1819 Let's be honest, almost no one is taking their gas powered mower into a dealer for a filter or plug replacement or for even an oil change. I have spent no more than $200 on my Honda that I have had for almost 20 years and that includes a second set of blades (to swap out during sharpening) and replacing a rear wheel twice that an edge of a driveway chews up. And if blade sharpenings are considered a maintenance cost for a gas powered mower how is an Ego only having a $16 total maintenance cost over 5 years, especially considering their blades are subpar?

In Australia I bought a Ryobi electric mower and honestly, it was the worst. It couldn't handle medium grass without me first getting the edger over it to thin it out. But the thing I hated most about it - the battery life could be anything from 10 minutes to 25 - it was completely random. I'd end up doing about a quarter of my lawn if that, then have to charge it, but couldnt instantly recharge it due to the battery needing to cool down. I took the 36v battery back 2-3 times thinking it was faulty but nope. It was just utterly unpredictable. The mower itself was great in terms of design, comfort, noise etc. It was just weak and the battery life was the final nail in the coffin. I'd much prefer an electric mower due to the cost, lack of emissions etc but I need petrol because i NEED to be able to get through the lawn. I really cant recommend electric unless it's some multi-battery beast. You'd need a handful of batteries to get any form of reliability and the batteries themselves are the most expensive aspects of an electric mower. A mower costing you $500 (i'm talking AUD) - $300 of that is the battery and charger alone. Some e-mowers have slots for two batteries at once which may be ok, but in my experience, that could still amount to 2 x 10 minute mows and struggling on any form of thick grass.

@@juan.rocha-gonzalez EDIT: RU-vid is doing that strange thing again putting my response comment in the wrong feed. I have used Honda mowers since I was a kid in 2nd or 3rd grade from the early 90s and have owned Honda equipment over 10 years. Honda products are head and shoulders above anything Husqvarna makes, and that would include replacement parts like cables as Honda has better made yet more affordable parts for its mowers compared to Husqvarna. I've been burned by expensive Husqvarna parts one too many times. Husqvarna, like Briggs and Stratton engines is on my black list. That being said, the GCV engines that Husqvarna puts on its mowers aren't bad little engines as one of my Honda mowers uses the same kind, but higher displacement model. Mine's 10 years old and still runs like a top.

I enjoyed the comparison, however I disagree with the maintenance cost. Plus compare a $800 electric to the $800 gas. I personally feel many folks will opt for electric especially with normal sized yards and no mechanical ability. Small engines are actually easy to maintain. Change oil once a season and do not overfill oil(this is actually the main reason engine problems occur), do not store with fuel in them(if carb is plastic put a shut off valve on the fuel line and run carb dry after each use ) and that's really about it.

Great comparison! As far as the backlash over the turbo feature, you shouldn't have filled the Toro with gas since the EGO doesn't have that feature. You also shouldn't have used a battery with the EGO since the Toro doesn't have that capability. Just push them around your yard without running them, only fair comparison you could do where you wouldn't get backlash...........about using features you paid for in the first place! As always though, excellent breakdown between the two.

In Canada, the EGO with aluminum deck costs $1,400 before tax. I can get a comparable gas for $400. I could go cheaper EGO, but the more basic deck looks like plastic and I'm concerned with longevity. So the same reason I don't have a Tesla is the exact same reason I decided to stick with a gas mower. Having to spend over 2X or 3X for new tech, for comparable performance, is a great way to slow adoption.

You are correct about the cost is higher in Canada ($1,349.00+tax on sale); however, once factor into the high Canadian gas price 🤯not only for the gas lawn mower that requires non-eternal fuel (mostly Shell's expansive fuel) but also the fuel cost of driving your vehicle (hopefully not a heavy truck or SUV) to go & return from the gas stations and store them vs. charging multiple batteries inside the comfort of a home that you can charge them at off peak hours vs the mercy of gas prices going up and own almost EVERY DAY.... I prefer the trad off of battery tools especially even after a Canadian snowstorm with my 12 batteries (4.0Ah to 12.0Ah) collected from past 6-7 years by choosing the battery + tools carefully to deal even with power outages.

Gasoline lawn mowers have governors, to maintain the right speed. It is the blade weight and sharpness that helps too. The heaver the blade the more torque you have the sharper the blade the better it will cut.

I'm 63 and have had a house and gas mower since I was 25. Nearly 40 years! I'm on my second mower. A Toro. Still works great. Tune it up once a year. I'm pretty sure batteries would have died every few years. I still am interested in electric but mostly because I'm a gadget guy.

Hard for the Toro to lift the grass properly with a mulching blade set up. Why I only use high lift blades now and discharge to side or in bag. The EGO also has ability to self propel without blade engaged but TORO can be refueled in a minute and EGO u have to wait for battery to charge. Put the battery version Toro against the EGO. Might be interesting. EGO should still come out on top.

I don’t think maintenance costs for the toro is that expensive, since you can do it yourself… spark plug $5., oil $4, air filter 10-15? Per year…even at $25 a year the costs over 5 years is $125.

When my current gas mower is no longer serviceable I might try an electric. My last one went over 15 years and still running great when I sold it off for a slightly larger cut width. I get battery anxiety even with my power tools so really not too sure. The tech seems good on paper though.

I love my electric mower. I runs for about an hour and covers a couple of acres. And takes about four hours to charge That means I can mow until the battery dies. Have a few beers waiting for it to charge. Do a couple more acres and have a few more beers. Altogether I get three charges a day. And 12 beers. I call that progress over a two day weekend.

I will keep my gas mower as know people who had had battery issues far to early. I have had my Toro for 5 years no issues starts every time and maybe used 1.5-2 gallons per cutting season at most so that's a lot cheaper than a $150-$400 battery for a non gas mower.

1989 was when I bought my first Black & Decker M3300 battery lawn mower to replace the MasterCraft gas mower my sisters can't handle when I was away in school. I am sure they did not sell many back then! Not great until I replaced it few years later with a refurbished CM1000 for almost 9-10 years than got a free replacement due to recall to a CM1200 for another 4-5 years before another Black + Decker and than the first EGO mower LM2102SP in 2018. LM2206SP is definitely a level up in every way!

Used an ego the last 4 yrs. Nothing better than slapping a battery on the lawn tools and just letting them rip. No more oil changes. No more collecting gas. I got the ego right when Home Depot was getting rid of them for $250 tool only and a 2 stage snow blower for 1100 with two 7.5 amp batts

i'll stick with my Honda. just upgraded from my 12 year old steel deck troy built honda powered push with no rust at all. i';m now in the self propelled world for the first time and i'll never switch to battery. technology just isn't there for me yet. i can't get a full yard mowed with one battery and $300-$400 for a 2nd battery that has a shelf life before red rings of death shows up is not for me. informative video though, thanks.

I have a lot of bushes and use a Honda self propelled gas. I can mow under the bushes, release the self-propelled lever and free-wheel back. This is not possible with the Egos and people are complaining like crazy that the drive wheels lock up if you try that. Killer for me.

Great comparison! I'd love to see that Ego go against a previous generation SR4 or even an older Super Recyler. With the right engine option, those were possibly the pinnacle of mowers along with the John Deere JX75 and Lawn Boy Duroforce. I hate to say it, but I wouldn't buy a current Toro.

@TheLawnReview to clarify, I wouldn't buy any mower made in the last 5 years, lol. I restore older mowers. New mowers are all built to a price point. The new Super Recyler vs the SR4 and especially the older Super Recyler has tons of compromises. Plastic transmission, thinner aluminum, no clutches at the wheels, and the engines are much poorer quality. To be fair, a Super Recyler built in 2000 would be about $1200 now with inflation. The John Deere mowers with Kawasaki engines were $1000 in 2000 dollars. Most homeowners wouldn't pay that much today and probably don't care about the differences.

To answer your title question, no. There is 0% chance right now that battery will replace gasoline commercially. No one wants to pay the price it would require. On one trailer I run 2 stand on, 2 smaller walk behind (could even go with 30" Toros) and a 21" trim mower. The cost of just the mowers (no solar, spare batteries, etc,) is $85,900 LOL Good luck recovering that. I have run costs for me using gasoline, belt and engine maintenance, hydro maintenance etc over 5 years and estimated the cost or charging all these units non-stop and its not near a break even point. There is still $6800 / year in balance. Averaged across all accounts our rate increase would be 28%. Thats a hard sell. Plus the units are worthless after the batteries are out of warranty, minimal re-sale value. One last negative, on larger properties BOTH stand on machines would be out of charge before the job is complete. Hard pass

My first experience with a battery operated mower was a very used 16” Greenworks 40v . I was impressed with the performance for its size even with tough grass and weeds. And the reduced maintenance won me over. Run time compared to gas was the only disadvantage in my opinion since I have to wait for recharge vs immediate refill with gas. But I was so impressed that when the battery died, I bought a Greenworks 60v 21” . I may purchase a second battery to extend work time. Also, the ability to turn it on its side for extended periods of time if something gets caught underneath without worrying about fuel or oil spillage or a hard restart is priceless. I can’t see myself using a small gas mower again.

I will bet you as environmental regulations get stricter as well as noise control, EGO battery prices will become more reasonable as market grows, and there will also be aftermarket options that are just as good or about 90% as good; Gas prices are not going to get better. For the average person that wants to take the step of mowing themselves and not paying someone to do it, but also not wanting to learn the ins and outs of mechanical maintenance on a gas mower, the EGO just makes sense.

Agreed, my lot is the same size as yours, I use a Honda HRX, and I cut about twice a week and I don't go through more than 10 gallons a year and that's including my walk behind edger, a leaf blower/vac, a weed whacker, and a two-stage snowblower in the winter. It's obvious he's steering the outcome for Ego. Like the $550 maintenance cost he arbitrarily made up for the Toro but leaves out Ego batteries don't last past 4 years and cost up to $600 each depending on size. As for my Honda I have had to replace one rear wheel in the 15 years I have owned it which was about $20 and probably less than $20 for oil over it's lifetime.

The TORO mows much better hands down, the ego mower does not lift and cut the grass as well period. Plus the self propelled drive does not release most of the time! I know I've had a ego mower for two years and had to sell it, I just bought a new toro mower model # 22485 and it does a much better job. Everyone I know that has a ego mower agrees with me 100%😊

Your costs a waaayyyy off. Who says I can’t do my own maintenance? I’m 50 years old and have never once taken a mower to a shop. One gallon per week of gas? What are you smoking? 2 gallons lasts me an entire season. So 16 oz of oil, rarely replace a spark plug, and an air filter. Under 40 bucks a year. I agree. It’s a 10 to 15 min job tops to replace oil. I do all of my small engine oil changes at once and it only takes me 20 mins tops (pressure washer, mower, and tiller). I’ve never replaced a spark plug unless I’ve had to. A 5 gallon tank of fuel will run all my machines all year long with some left over. I do feel there was some bias in the totals at the end. That being said, I’m pretty handy with a wrench and not everyone falls into the same category. I can see someone like my mom going for the electric mower to not deal with any maintenance or hauling fuel. It just depends on your situation. I’m considering going electric because I have a massive line up of dewalt batteries for my tools and I could store the mower in a standing position in my garage that’s really space limited. I’m just not sold yet because of run times. I already have the flexvolt weed eater and that thing is what opened my eyes to the power of modern electric tools. It’s really powerful and outperformed my previous gas weed eater. I think I’ll just wait for my mower to die before I go electric on that one….so maybe in 10 years lol.

1. Both mowers will run different cutting grass. 2. Who cares how long they run walking the neighborhood. 3. I have had several brand battery mowers top name brands and they all failed in a year. Good luck getting warrenty repair. When it comes down to mowing gas reigns superior especially in tough wet grass. Batteries are crazy expensive depending what brand you buy. I run a small lawn service and battery mowers cause down time and cannot handle heat. Sure they are quiet but I don't like quiet, there is something soothing when mowing with gas mowers. To those who complain about neighbors getting up at 6 or 7am to mow with gas mowers, if you cannot handle it, move.. Whiney people make life miserable.

I heard a pro say recently that a good gas powered professional grade zero turn mower costs $10,000-$12,000 while a comparable pro battery powered mower cost $24000-$28000!!! what will they do??? triple thier fees and go out of business??

Depends on the amp hours. You can get a new 2.5ah for about $170, all the way up to a 12ah for $600. I didn't even know they made 12ah until I just looked. Seems like overkill for most yards, so I'm guessing the 12ah ones are made for other things, but I think they fit the mower too. Also, there are cheaper 3rd party batteries on Amazon for a fraction of the cost. I'm sure they probably don't last as long, but a 5ah for under $100 is a pretty sweet deal. A couple of those are more than enough for most people. Play it that way and electric should be cheaper in the long run, since you aren't buying gas any more. That said, I wouldn't use electric for a huge yard, or for a lawn business. If it's more than 5ah (x2) worth, gas might be the way to go. Or better yet, a riding mower.

My lawn is mostly a 40° hill all the way . I need a transmission as strong as the mower... What happens to the Ego in a Hilly situation ....??? Can the battery make it ??? Can the transmission ??? I have a Honda 217 / 190 GVC... Hydrostatic transmission.... It pulls hills like they're nothing. Can an Ego match that ???

I was wondering about that myself even though I don't have a 40° lawn. Last week I wanted to surprise a friend who was away for 3 weeks in another city with a section of lawn that is 6 feet wide 20 feet long ~45° down to the backyard plus the same angle ramp (~5 feet long) to get onto the lawns between the horse shoe driveway. He has switched to a non-propelled gas mower due to the self propelled gas mower he had would just chew up the lawn under the rear wheels and not going up the hill. I packed 8 batteries thinking it will be a massive challenge to the LM2206SP to completed the 4,000 sf of 12"~16" tall grass before the 1 hour drive. Anti-climate warming! I only used one 12.0Ah battery with the standard mulching blade at 4" deck high with blade speed 2 and the self propelled between 1-4 speed to go up the hill with no hesitation and ease on the moist but not wet lawn surfaces. Very surprised and pleased with the end result.

@Jeo-What That's good to know ! I know it's a matter of overall mower weight as well besides the mowing direction. I have a lighter Honda 216 single speed, but mowing Cross a steep hill , number one it's too fast, number 2 it starts to hop sideways down the hill. The heavier , slower speed setting 217 stays in place. But you know, there are times when you have to actually mow up and down, or turn on a steep grade, and you have to muscle the mower with its wheels spinning to get to your next direction whether side to side or diagnol up and down.. The electric mower , I would think, "should " be lighter. Maybe works to their advantage ??? I really don't get a whole lot out of these comparison tests because they're all mostly on perfect lawns ! Come here and test one on my lawn ! THAT'S a Test ..! Lol. 😁

@@joeserrenti9857 A very good point you mentioned about the drive speed of the gas mower. My friend did mention his gas mower was going too fast while tearing up the grass going uphill without speed control and since my mower can set the speed and that is why it was able to gain traction based on the surface. I was wonder if Ryobi's AWD mower would do a better job when descending down the hill while I had to hold back my mower not to freefall down the hill but as you said, only real live test can tell the truth on it's own.

@Jeo-What I also want to throw in why , In my case, a "personal pace mower " is useless.... ( yes Toro that's you ! ) So I'm going uphill, push forward and it goes faster .... NO ...Common' These companies kill me with their engineering ....!?!??

Gas 3-5 hp and battery 1-2hp for double the price. I have electric, CORDED electric. $200, 21" deck, 13 amps at 120v = 2hp all the time and no $200-$500 battery to charge and replace.

@@TheLawnReview The tank on a push mower is ~1/4 gal tank and likely would do a bit under 1.5 mows on a 1/2 acre I would think. So maybe 1/5 gallon per week if mowed once per week so ~20$ a year if 1/2 year weekly mows with some left over for a tasty candy bar.

I have too disagree with the "regular maintenance" costs. 5qt jug cost around $20, there is enough for 10 oil changes(10 years). New air filters are $3 each off amazon. Spark plugs are $4 and new blades are $10 each. So $10 for oil, $15 on air filters, $20 for spark plugs and $50 for new blades. Grand total of $105 nowhere your $550. Don't mean too be rude, just my 2 cent's

It’s a good point. However for someone not mechanically inclined, lawn mower repair shops are charging $150 for tune ups (spark plug, air filter, clean carb, sharpen blade) these days.

I agree with you. Not only that electric has most the money up front in costs compared to repeatedly buying gas. It also saves you time, battery in & go no oil or gas. Time has its special value, and the electric just provides that.@Jmanmadness23

My 7.5ah ego select cut battery barely holds a charge after 2 years of use. These batteries are very expensive. $399 for the 7.5ah is insane. I’m buying a new Briggs gas mower for $250 and just gonna do the yearly maintenance on it. Until batteries are cheaper, these really don’t make sense financially.

That's a very limited and biases towards the battery machine ,. it does not test it abilities under heavy loads making for a poor comparison . my neighbor has a top of the line Stihl battery mower .our grass is is of similar height .he cuts for about fifteen minutes before having to charge . Meanwhile my gas mower blasts through the grass with no bogging g down and only stops when i run out of gas which takes one minute to refill , as opposed to thirty minutes for a charge or more

Disadvantage for the Ego: new battery every one or two years, $3-500. Another disadvantage for the Ego: not built to commercial specification. Another disadvantage of Ego: higher risk of house or shed fire from Lithium Ion batteries. And the final disadvantage nail in the coffin for Ego and most battery powered tools: Planned obsolescence and thus still a huge environmental problem. I would be using more battery tools if the batteries were made and sold in a totally universal form like AA, AAA, C, D, 9 V, 12 V and other configurations like they are in cars and some electronics. Batteries aren't really recyclable as about 90 percent of it gets warehoused in a form known as "black mass." There is a huge potential of it leaking into the environment if said warehouse is destroyed in some kind of disaster or accident plus the part of still pulling toxic substances from the crust of this planet we call home. My Honda mowers are totally recyclable (this includes the oil in the engine and transmission, even if it's used as a fuel) at the end being primarily made of steel and aluminum. There's a lot of plastic in battery equipment and thus isn't anywhere as durable as the gas mowers.
