Its now July 2022. I appreciate the heads up on the filter itself. I aborted an installation on my motorcycle with a similar filter and hose this morning that had a smaller diameter than the original fuel hose that connected the petcock valve to the accelerator pump on the carbs. I deferred in assuming Id cause my bike to starve for fuel. Now about the Filter itself - just imagine if I went ahead and an installed it anyway. Just imagine 30 minutes later on a test drive, a leaky filter dripping on an engine case that could be over 200 degrees F in traffic - Thanks much for your video -
Wow this helped me out, I thought my fuel was leaking thru the gromet on the fuel low level mechanism, so I removed the seat and checked things out, no fuel leaking there... I thought I was looking at a new tank, I have the 3235 with the 25 HP Kohler so my in line filter seems to be under the hood (unless there is more than 1) I never thought to remove the back plate and check the lines there. However when I did remove the seat it gave me a chance to see I was leaking hydraulic fluid from my hydraulic valve, so I guess it wasn't for nothing. Thanks for the video, it always sucks to see any kind of puddle under a machine. :-)
No, it is never a thrill seeing a puddle. There are two filters on the model in the video. One is up front under the hood and towards the back of the engine As you know from this video the other filter is below the tank on the left side behind the backing plate. Glad the video helped you out. It's not one of my most popular but if it helps one person out then it was worth it. Takes lots of time to film and edit. Take it Easy - Ozz
I went through 2 similar faulty filters on my DIY 50CC motorbike project when it happened the 2nd time I thought it was a feature instead of a flaw, being new to this. Whoops. Heading to get new filters tomorrow.
It could be the fuel or water that froze maybe but it seems the newer products have solved most of the problems we first seen with alcohol in the fuel but oddly when I picked up my new brush cutter and chainsaw the stihl dealer said the warranty does not cover anything fuel related if they detect that you used fuel wth alcohol in it. We still have lots of non alcohol fuel up here. Cheers...
The ethanol strikes again. Just a heads up the ethanol in the non sealed fuel systems like riding mowers and other power equipment will play havoc if you let it sit in there for more than a month at a time. Cars have combated this by having fully sealed fuel systems.
+sixtyfiveford ethanol is garbage as far as I'm concerned. Besides the fact it doesn't smell good anymore like it did in the old days....lol Maybe it's the fumes getting to me?? haha take care
Luckily I have a local supplier of ethanol free gas. It goes into all my small engines all the way from the 2 stroke weed wacker all the way up to the outboard on the boat. Between that, the kero for shop heat, and the dyed off-road only diesel for the tractor I look a little nutty filling up the cans at the station!
Hey Ozz...looks a crappy filter with poor quality control when it was made. I agree that Ethanol is shit too, but I haven't had any deterioration of parts on my mower. Looks like you've got a good quality filter on there now. Take care Ozz...
+The Disgruntled Mechanic you got that right. Cost was $12 for the new john deere filter. In my opinion its a $2 part. Cheap part keeping an expensive machine down is costly nevermind dangerous as hell! Never fails, thanks for watching and commenting
+231flash i wish ethanol would be banned but the politicians make too much money from it so its here to stay for now! Thanks for commenting and watching
