I can understand gatekeeping from a standpoint of ppl being lazy and not wanting to do the research but to gatekeep info on something that somone else has already done somewhere else is friggin weirdo sh*t
What I experienced from trying to extremely supportive and informative for the K series community is that, even though I provided free back to back unbiased dyno results for several different parts and even different engine builds at my own expense and the expense of those involved... the vast majority of the community did not respect the free info nor appreciate it. So after all that time and effort and money I wasted providing facts with receipts, I no longer have the desire to give to the community. In a sense, the community made me decide to be more of a gatekeeper because the community doesn't respect free knowledge. I only help those who seek my help directly now or when I come across untrue info. Gatekeeping will continue as long as individuals don't respect and utilize the time, effort, and proven facts provided for them. The Honda community seems to have a hard time accepting info when it's not what they expected, so... they can help themselves. My pockets definitely hurt from helping people. So now I watch people do stupid shit and I just keep it pushing.
Bro, I'll sit down for three days 4+ hours each if I have to researching and building a project parts list. Whatever I couldn't find or figure out, I then hop in the Facebook groups, reddit, etc. I'm a Honda/Chevy head. No diddy. I've owned Nissans and Toyotas. The biggest jerks are in the Honda community. I know you remember the term "Hater-Tech".🤣
I tell everyone to ask google lol 😂😅bro the type of questions people ask me on a daily they can literally find online if they just put in the time to look it up. But I’m the bad guy for not giving them the easy answers?
nope. you're not. this generation is rude when it comes to wanting information. At least be respectful when asking or do what we all did and google it LOL.
I literally stop answering questions. I get the same questions about everyday. I use to give the info and help out but now it’s just to much. So I just ignore. Specially for people who ask questions and never support my business and buy from me. I spend hours and days helping people then they go purchase from the competitor. But I put in all the work to help their customer out.
No shame in the game, that’s why I cop the parts from u. I can’t justify spending 3k on just a front end, right now. Maybe in the future. But nothing but pure facts spoken in this video 💪🏾
Man, I feel both sides of this. People want to put in zero effort and get mad when you won't just spoon feed them information (not to mention that they ask the question with zero effort and no manners like you said). I'll steer people in the right direction all the time without just giving them a link so that they can actually put in some effort if they really want the answer. I do that in hope that they'll do it enough to learn to look before asking (yeah, I know I'm dreaming)
Not gonna lie, part of the reason why I'm ok with telling people what I have is because I've decided to buy authentic going forward (after finally buying my first authentic part) because if they're willing to put out the money to buy authentic parts then I'm all for it. Help encourage it. Some people realize, they don't want to or can't afford authentic. But if they really want that part, they will work hard for it and appreciate it. Or, if they don't really care they'll go to the eBay/rep parts. You start to understand that having unique builds often require purchasing authentic parts. Lot's of cars look the same (same "builds) for a reason; they're all cheap and affordable parts. That's their market demographic. So it's like, you get what you spend. Or they can be super handy and learn how to make their own parts which is awesome to see their progress.
From a friend to a friend. Stop wasting your energy in trying to explain yourself to others that are not worth your time and energy. As far as gate keeping, I’m with you but it gets annoying having to repeat the same sht when it’s clearly on a post. I don’t care how nice they ask I stopped responding.
"this is the generation where people just want things handed to them." is such a boomer line. I'm 35 damn years old and have been in to cars since before I got my learners permit at 15. This shit has been going on since cars were invented. It's not new. Chill.
I used to be all about sharing info and helping. Now I don't give a damn because if it's anything other than a bolt on intake, these kids now a days just drop off theit cars at a shop and pick it up when it's ready.
Also if you really want answers for parts on my cars. If you scroll down and check previous post. You can tap the post for tags or read the hashtags. I typically always tag companies of parts I have or companies that help me. The info is there. I go threw so many pages when I want answers or just to see what details are on a car.
there's levels to this, you either get it or you don’t. Image the year is 1999 and the internet is damn near nonexistent. You gotta do things the hard way or “old school way”. Everyone can go in the internet now and find whatever they need.
I knew what you meant bro lol. We love you. Can we get a shirt with the Honda on the back & your logo on the front? Word hate that gatekeeping shit but I get it though because we want to be different. These dudes stole my whole homie's build. CRAZY! Welcome to the DMV lol. We girls in the car scene share more. I notice dudes are such haters no offense that's where I get the most hate from. I have a 9th Gen Civic with a R18 people (mostly dudes) telling me not to build it. Like I thought the point of the car culture was to build things. It's slow I want to make it fast for experience.
Bro. Some guy from Los Angeles was legitimately gatekeeping Wheel specs he was rockin on a 8th Gen sedan. White RPF1 F Gunmetal TC4 R. He told me to “google” the wheels specs, because there’s “plenty of info out there “. Lmaooooo I hope you see this dude!
Some stuff isn’t gate keeping though. Ppl don’t even go outside and put their hands on their own cars frfr. Plenty of stuff you have to test out first hand to make it work esp kids getting into the game now. What’s the best tire setup for dd. Literally whatever you want that fits your budget.also too many ppl thinking mods don’t come with compromise. plenty of these things could be answered if you’re actually in the local community relating to whatever application you are building your car for. Then you got the same ppl asking what’s the best this and that and mofos don’t change their oil on time. Nor Do basic maintenance and bare minimum run premium octane. Everyone thinks they are going to build some epic car with no capacity to do basics
Infiniti owners are notoriously hush-hush about what they do and where they get parts from. Though there's an Australian guy who's a youtuber who drops gems here on RU-vid. Anybody feel like Drake finna win this rap battle?
Sooooo for me.. I’ve spent years getting the perfect fitment, finding the hardest part to find, everything I’ve done so far is on the higher end of parts. After 5 years of saving, buying stuff, making stuff fit.. for someone to be like “ay yo! Where you get them bags at?” “Where’d you get them BuddyClub seats” and when I link them for them to be like “damnnnnn that’s a lot of money, never mind”.. I now check their build and see if they’re fully committed before bothering to give full long ass replies etc. otherwise it’s basic information to point them in the right direction. Sorry about the long ass paragraph 🤣
Totally agree. The kswap fit groups are always known as gate keepers, but i usually hear that from people who havent even done the basic first steps, or those that need their hand held throughout the whole process. Even for the latter, ive seen people ask their way through a swap to the point where it's a collective group project now, which is OK too, but at least show some appreciation for the help that got you to the finish line
It really depends, I really don't have a problem helping others, and there are times I also learn something new too. Sometimes you can tell if someone wants to learn the right way. And I also feel I need to share what I know so some bad misinformation doesn't continue to spread because as we all know there in the Honda world, there is a lot of jankiness around that continues to this day. I think some people take it too far on all the authentic parts and I know of others who try to hold others to that standard when they themselves can't even muster up showing their own car or have their car to the standard they want out of others. I've stuck with the authentic parts on the Integra, but I've also experimented on some cheaper parts on my Civic daily. Ie. I bought the honed front camber kit which is great on the Integra, but on my Civic, lets try the truhart kit out and see what happens.
Ain’t you know that when you got TE’s on your fit, you top dawg?? You ain’t gotta give the deets. Jokes aside, I seen that post on the modified fit page and that post misleading af. How you gon say what wheel specs you run and that it fits but not mention your tire size?? I get not wanting to repeat yourself, I experience it as well, but ol’ boy set himself up for people to ask the tire size.
