This game is so underrated. I've been an RTS player since Warcraft 1. (Yes I'm old). And I've suffered the lack of good RTS games since Starcraft 2, when the shift to MOBA and all that crap began. I also played a hex and turn based light-weight strategy game called Steel Panthers World At War way back in the day and Gates of Hell: Ostfront (maybe there'll be western front too) gives me the RTS goodies - I like to see and hear things shooting and blowing up as my strategy is playing out -, it gives me the WW2 nerdy Steel Panthers feels with the tank armor, angling, different caliber, detailed differences in firearms, artillery, smoke and all that. So it's just perfect. I'm completely addicted to just playing some local skirmishes against Heroic AI, which on some maps can really offer a nice challenge. If that's not enough, play against two Heroic level AIs alone :D also, it can be a nice, bite-sized session of gaming where you don't need to dive in for hours upon hours at a time. Which you CAN do as well with the conquest mode. Anyway, a great game, best ww2 RTS imo, CoH has nothing against it and I've played the heck out of every CoH title out there and enjoyed them as well.

Your strategies just make like way more sense to me compared to other YTs

I've played this series since i was a kid, that includes Faces of War & Soldiers: Heroes of WW2 All essentially the same game. The studio is obsessed with defence (generally soviet) against unfavorable odds

The sounds in this game are so good

after watching this and playing the first russian mission myself on the open beta, my first thought was how it was great they actually gave you adequate time to setup defenses in the missions lol Before, you had 20 seconds before they were coming from all angles... just feels like the game i always wanted MoW to be! Super stoked for release.

36:18 I like how your able to recapture a Soviet tank after being capture from the Germans.

Dunno if this is effective in the game but in the army we make sure we have reciprocal coverage between the trenches and also add depth, having trenches not just next to each other but also some behind (covering the gap between the front two trenches)

Wow! I never knew about this game. Awesome video. I played Close Combat and CC: A Bridge to Far back in the dark ages and haven't thought about playing it until this video. This game is what Close Combat should have evolved into.

i have the beta too.. but i dont have this mission... and the german campaing? only i have 2 mission tutorials and 1 mision of the russian? WTF?

This game looks good, but the AI reminds me of the stunt men in a Steven Seagal movie, lining up and obliging to attack the one hero, one at the time. "Gates of shooting gallery" seems a more fitting title unfortunately. "Gates of AI piecemeal frontal attack, with no artillery preparation, showing side armour repeatedly" maybe.

Did you get like a extended version of the beta? i only got 2 training missions and 1 main mission that was 2 parts

Will german perspective be playable too?

I wish we could actually build the mortar holes, flak gun foxhole, and a foxhole to park your tank or self propelled gun in. Some dugouts for artillery would be nice too. The sandbag stuff is ok, but you should be able to do dig outs for the bigger stuff. Maybe as an engineer truck upgrade.
