RAPTOR, here's some useful tips that might make you more efficient. 1.Don't need to take one soldier to grab ammo then resupply another one - just select them in a squad, they' ll transfer ammo between themselves. Works great with a medic for medkits - just place him behind a fighting squad of infantry and then heal -- the medic will automatically transfer the medkits for each wounded soldier. 2. When selecting at mines or anti-personnel mines or anything placeable really you can click and drag it on map for a continuous layer of placeables. Also, don't place a pack of at mines and then block the way after them - the tanks will not go through that route in the first place rendering the whole ordeal useless. 3. Focus on what's closest to your front, the immediate danger. That panzer I with 80 mm of frontal armor should have been a priority 0 - it has wrecked most of your infantry. 4. Form shortcuts for infantry squads - have them grouped in smaller detachments; for example , one machine gunner, one at-riflemen or a 2 man group carrying many at-grenades . Maneuver those smaller detachments around, place them so that they get any chance to crossfire the enemy. Also, be proactive with movement of troops and concentration of forces; those sitting on the western bank of the river were doing close to nothing on the second and third wave. 5. Layered defence - closely related to point 4. Don't usually set your trenches/ foxholes and sandbags in a single continuous line; instead have 2 or three layers with some distance between them. That way, the enemy infantry has a less chance to supress your infantry and force them to prone position behind cover, only to be picked up one by one when they raise their heads. The distance between defensive emplacements could be very well saturaded with mines - at between the trenches, anti-personnel in front and behind them. Great use of barbed wire around the defensive positions - funnel the enemy infantry into mg-s, mortar fire and small arms fire.

Question: can infantry trigger AT mines? Logically yes but they could be designed to only go off when a certain amount of weight is placed on them. Have you thought about starting your own RU-vid channel and calling it "military grade guide to constructing defensive positions"?

@@dionwoollaston5717 :) Not yet i haven't since I'm hardly an expert in military matters. I can only speak from what i've experimented in Company of Heroes and Men of War. In the aforementioned titles, AT mines could only be triggered by vehicles the same way AP by infantry.

@@dionwoollaston5717 Thinking about it, have you played Hearts of Iron? In one of the land doctrines, there's a tactic called "defence in deep" - a counterpart to schwerpunkt (concentrated attack). Thus, the defenders permit the advance of the enemy only to outmaneuver, outgun and overwhelm on their own grounds and terms. This was done by Manstein on the Eastern Front in late Operation Fall Blau. It's all really intuitive when I think about it. I've read on some forums that some gamers learned and put into practice aviation doctrines and techniques from ww2 in games like WarThunder - their efficiency increased exponentially.

The Field Engineers can dig unlimited trenches,but most of the time when they dig one they drop their pickaxe inside the trench,so you need to pick it up manually!

That Pz 1 giving you all the trouble is a model F, it has 80mm of armor all around. It was designed for the eastern front to take on infantry positions.

F is the production series for the chassis, not the tank itself, though that doesn't really make you wrong because everything from the Panzer II to the Stug III was on the AusF chassis. That isn't an quite F1 variant though, you can identify the F1 Variant by its distinctive fat nosed 75mm KwK37 Cannon, the thing mowing him down is an AusF. II/C Dak which is on a Panzer II chassis. Unfortunately in reality it was outclassed heavily and vulnerable to even light anti tank rifles with its flat facing 30mm armor plates and its design was abandoned by 1943. It never saw action on the eastern front, so he probably could have just shot it with an an AT rifle if its armor was modeled correctly.

1st tank is an upgunned PZ III G.The 2nd tank is a Pz 1 F - this was a tiny pz 1 that was heavily uparmoured and produced 1942/mid war. this machine-gun tank was heavily armoured and slow (like the matilda 1) - it was called the mini tiger.

19:50. I guess that big kaboom happened because of the script which was meant to automatically blow up your mines when enemy vehicles are breaking through. You borrowed sd.kfz and moved it to the rear, but game wrongly decided the halftrack still belongs to its former owners/ Not entirely sure, but it seems logical to me

You're placing the tank traps in the wrong places, they should be "beyond the place to be defended, into the direction where the enemy will be coming from", they should be properly placed so as to funnel enemy armor to your AT gun's field of fire as well as lead enemy tanks to landmine areas... Even the placement of your trenches were scattered and disorganized, giving the enemy the chance to destroy strong points piecemeal.. there are also times when your idle infantry is exposed, instead of keeping them in the trenches.. well that's just my opinion..

My West Point studies of ancient-modern warfare historical study may deceive me, but your “defenses” were severely lacking in actual defense to say the least. Most certainly not the marginot line. And you left many flanks entirely vulnerable given the resources you started with. Especially the tank traps and mines.

Class of 84 ring knocker, First Gulf War and Cold Warrior veteran real world. Remember when we read duffer's drift as part of MS 101? That being said, how about we identify the problem and offer a solution. Raptor- have watched your videos for years. Good entertainment and good teaching of game mechanics. I have watched your videos for Men of War, MoWAS2, Rob's realism mods and many of the DLCs. That being said, in the defense you want to control the battlefield via your deployment and obstacle plan forcing him to engage your strengths in advantageous a way as you can. I am disposing of as much military jargon as possible below so no one need troll me on my description of the principles in FM 100-5. The jargon may have changed since the cold war but the principles remain the same. Based on what I viewed you might consider using the tank obstacles to make the tanks weave through them in your AT field of fire, enabling flank shots 1)avoid direct engagement thus increase the survivability of the piece 2) increases the chance of penetration and kills 3) decrease the forward speed of the attack thus enabling more time for engagement. Make them weave by creating a herringbone with your obstacles on the main avenue of approach (the road) and force them into the herringbone by setting up a continuous set of obstacles out on the right flank (do this first). Use all available infantry (not digging foxholes) to place the AT mines (use all available) in groups of 6-8 along/parallel to the road to destroy vehicles as they are funneled inward thus decreasing the use of your AT gun (keeping it hidden and supplied) for only the toughest vehicles and the engage with flank shots. Deploy the AT rifle forward since it will only be of use in the early game to engage recon vehicle, again allowing you one gun to remain hidden as long as possible. In this case taking out the halftrack during the probe. One game mechanic I am not sure of is if you can use the 45mm shells that will not go in the gun in concert with the anti -personnel mines to create additional anti-tank minefield like was the option in the original men of war game. Next, based upon your AT plan, place your infantry positions to 1) protect your AT from engagement by infantry (this may be why crews are abandoning guns) 2) defend the position/flag 3)cover mine field to prevent detection or removal by engineers 4) cover secondary avenues of approach to prevent bypass or encirclement. Minimum infantry at each location or if more is available 2/3rds of your force. It is better to have five dug in positions that are cover the same area with fire than it is to have one position with 5 infantry in it. Harder to suppress and usually means when one soldier is suppressed the rest can fire. Also, as the AI switches to engage different positions it's accuracy is lower than if is focused on one position. Trench is better to survive direct fire by tanks but again you want to have several in the area mutually supporting each other. Finish these defenses if necessary between attacks starting from the front working your way out and back. For this map I would try to secure the AT gun with a couple trenches then work on the river/left with foxholes before the first attack. Then I would build build depth into the right side so that you could protect your AT gun, and plan for a place to displace the gun at least once between attacks. As for anti-personnel obstacle, place your wire to make them move into your minefields and away from cover. Thus the priority hear would be to place the wire on the left/river side since the right side with no cover would easily be repelled Place your wire far enough in front of your position so that you can not be engaged with grenades but within range that you can use direct fire to engage them as they try to breach the wire or minefield. Lastly, organize about 1/3 of your force as a reserve and move it to the prepared positions as it is apparent how the attack will unfold (this is a little easier when the fog of war is turned off) Include a medic in the force(rest is infantry), and a tank, armored car if available and micro the heck out of it. Use this same force to counterattack/cleanup the battle field from surviving attackers to reduce the ammo wasted by AI continuing to shoot at threats it can not reach/kill creating resupply issues for the main attacks. So to summarize 1)AT plan of engagement 2) AT Obstacle plan 3) Dig in Infantry to protect AT 4) Dig in infantry to deny strongpoint/flanking/encirclement 5) Obstacle plan to control the movement of enemy infantry into infantry kill zones 6)Organize a reserve and contingency plan for how you will deploy it for each zone. As complex as this all is, this is why I think the developers of next generation of RTS military games should allow you a preview on the map you are working on so that you can plan all this out on the map before you are in execution mode with the counter running. What would be especially helpful would be the ability to mark the map with doctrinal symbols before you start with the timer/execution so you would have the equivalent of a military map with the plan embossed on an overlay. On a side note from watching one of your other videos, I believe where they are going with the medical collection point is similar to Age of Empires III where by moving a casualty to the location it will heal the soldier. This means if you place the medical collection point in a covered and concealed position one terrain feature behind the front that even if your medic dies you can still heal your soldiers until it is destroyed by other soldier carrying the wounded to the point. Hopefully they are also figuring out how to allow a wounded soldier to be put in a vehicle since this is how it is commonly done as opposed to carry to the rear. I am on the public Beta so can not try it out myself. I have been playing the beta for a week plus and am trying to complete the absolute zero defense with no casualties. Right now I am down to 3-5 men on most playthroughs. Again Raptor, thanks for your years of support for the RTS games and mods. I have played MoWAS2 for about 3500 hours and have watched your videos hundreds of times. The way you illustrate the game controls and walk viewer through the approaches I am sure has contributed to the popularity of the games. And to my fellow ring knocker, maybe we should organize a multiplayer team among interested grads so we can apply the doctrinal lessons ourselves. My only worry here would be that we would be monitored by the Chinese and Russians to for the specific purpose of building AI to defeat our standard doctrine. Best wishes to all in the RTS community.

Hopefully I will come across either others with the same background or multiplayer groups that are interested in using doctrine to complete campaigns with minimal casualties. I finished all Russian Missions on Hard which are very unrealistic, well Winter Storm seems to be the last one as after all enemy's are dead the level just keeps going........it is like almost impossible to win as the KV-1 tank you got can not take ammo and suddenly it has but can not shoot.....you are up against a wave of tanks....even after blowing up the airfield the game just keeps going....the level just does not stop so no end, it was a major headache to play all these levels as the game is unstable and full of bugs too bad which makes the game not nice, as for the German Missions you can not go beyond the one in the Russian Mountains due to the major bugs.......:(

Pz1 that needs 20 shots on the side from medium caliber A/T to get killed seems legit. What a sad thing that Command and Conquer 1 from Playstation 1 was more realistic than modern RTS. Thank god for the modding community.
