Over 1000 World War 2 Reenactors gather for the morning briefing at Midway Village Museum in Rockford, Illinois for the September 2016 event. Video By Heinz Thiel World War 2 HRS Press Corps www.worldwartwohrs.org/
As much as I'd love to be around that many fellow reenactors, I couldn't help but feel guilty being in the bunch with all the old men with beer bellies, the obese people, and the just downright farb impressions
There isn’t anything wrong with people wearing the gear. They paid for it, you can’t really judge them about it. Its their property. So just please don’t call out those men. Let people do whatever they want, wether airsoft or reenactment and stuff. Its discrimination to call out these “old, obese, short” types of people. Keep in mind that reenactment isn’t for specific people. Let them do as they wish. Thats all😅
@@aviationdude464 Yes same i mean i get it you love history but have some respect to the people who fought i myself have lost 30kgs so it looks better in uniform then start of the year
It’s a reenactment not a battleground. What’s next, “The average reenactment gun cannot fire live ammunition nor is able to during re-enactments. Time to start loading them up and actually shooting.”
Even as a reenactor myself @spearheadmilsim7976 is right on this point. You are potraying history to people or for yourselfs. The average soldier wasn't very fat. The bullet thing is for safety reasons and you dont need to have it since you can act by dropping dead. The point of reenacting is learning from it.@@powersresurrected354
I mean, you can’t judge them unless they are making a fuss. They also own those uniforms, gear, weapons etc. If they ain’t stiring up a storm, don’t start one
@@GIFrontlineHistories well i hope to see you there then. come check out the 353rd infantarie div at the hotel. well be more than welcome to show you our weekend home lol
I can't fault those "large fries with that" big guys for being interested in history...but you would at least think they would try to look the part. The uniforms would be presented better if they were just laid out on a table. How can you take this seriously with such inaccuracy in the fitness department?
Guys, leave the Obese people alone. they share the same passion for learning about the war as you do. also atleast they are out here with others like them and socializing rather than being indoors.
I appreciate their love of history. But what about their appreciation for authenticity.? Rather than don a uniform (which probably does provide some fantasy excitement for them...while the spectators laugh)...why can't they just display their collections until they reach a 1940's wartime physique that is believeable?
Most authentic I’d say were the Finns and German Cavalry near the end. They look like real soldiers and furthermore are accurately dressed and equipped
This is an accurate description of SS units in april 1945 XD yup things were that desperate all jokes aside, i also thank them for keeping the history alive
US reenacting is not the best, to say the least. But trust me the Reenacting community around the world is a lot better than this. And there are of course also good US reenactors.
Damn, this may be messed up to say, but as a bigger guy myself, I'm doing my best to not be the biggest guy on the field anymore. Tired of what I'm seeing, and i want to make my unit and myself proud and look good while doing it. I'm trying purposefully not to buy any larger pieces of kit until i slim down. My 21st Panzer deserves a better me, and I do as well. Wish me luck! :P
@@infinite0hacker447 no i appreciate that man it's true. But at the same time, i don't wanna get outta breath putting on my boots lol or look entirely too huge to be believable. Like one time i went out to an event and there was this other big guy on the Russian side, and i thought Damn im not far from his weight lol but i realized it's for my health too ya know?
@@infinite0hacker447 right? Lol not to mention all your kit and weapon. Sure is fun tho lol it'll be more so when im slimmer. Yeah with my size its hard even to put on some pieces of gear lol
I know it's only a hobby for most of them, but I don't think that most of them are young enough and fit enough to be dressing up as front line infantry soldiers etc. Maybe guards at Luftwaffe airfields or flak gunners in the Reich or truck drivers, but they don't really look much like the people who they are supposed to look like. If you look at photos of the Fallschirmjager and the Panzer Grenadiers, they were very young men who often looked quite thin, but they were all very fit and athletic, without beerbellies or greying hair or glasses. Their self belief and their pride/arrogance (?) also gave them a certain swagger and attitude which is hard to replicate. Even the NCOs and the junior officers and the Abteilung and Kompanie commanders were younger than the majority of these reenactors.
Or maybe it would be more accurate to dress like the Volksvweer (the People's Army) and carry mock panzerfausts, while dressed like the civilian defenders of Berlin. With only arm bands destinguishing them as combatants of any sort.
What's the problem? I'm a fitness freak and couldn't give two fucks less that these reenactors, having fun AND educating the public on military history, are fat. Who cares
Reminded me of my first couple of days in Boot Camp way back in the very early 70's. One guy in the vid did a complete about-face looking the second file square in their kissers. LOL... Man..a few of these guys would have been great insult fodder for the infamous Sgt. Hartmann. (RIP - the great, R. Lee Ermey)
0:55 "Rechts um!" - Right around (turn right). But only about two to three guys did it correctly? As ordered, they turned towards the right. Everyone turned to the left (From their perspective when the order was given). The funniest part is some guys doubted to left but instead turned right. Very unfortunate.
Proves my and several other people’s points on why there should be a weight limit to join a reenactment, it really kills the vibe, people would be so heated about the accuracy of other people’s uniforms but when there’s a fat guy they wouldn’t bat an eye as to how accurate that is, lol
Yeah a person's physical appearance can also make or break an impression. I have no idea why some reenactors choose to ignore this fact. People are visual and if they see a 360 lb German SS Officer, questions are immediately going to be raised.
A.H. 1935 regarding the preferred general demeanour of his H.J. Qt; ' Flinke wie die windhund, zaeh wie leder, hart wie Kruppstahl.' Seeing Grandpa Arbuckle in a paratrooper uniform always make's me laugh intermittently for hours, until the memory fades.
Yeah...Something about a lot of reenactors. It seems they have an inner desire to be feared and held in awe to make up for some sort of insecurity in life. Sort of the Darth Vader admiration syndrome. I bet many fantasize about struting around stiff legged wearing those snappy black SS and gestapo police unis with the NAZI armbands. Now..that said. I have alot of respect for most of the portrayals of the Heer. Correct Waffen SS portrayals including appearance of the portrayer is interesting, but seeing some of these guys?...They better change their names to WAFFLE-ASS. I bet I could make alot of money following these guys around with a Tuba! (Thank you Stewy - Family Guy...; ^ )))) ......extra chins LOL ) Oh...almost ALL the women look good and authentic for the 1940's. Well done ladies.
@@carlruf9037 ' Oh...almost ALL the women look good and authentic for the 1940's. ' So women reenactors don't have insecurity? Only Males?? Sexist Much! Communists and Imperial Japan did war crimes and 'minor' genocides too. But yes assume anyone reenacting SS/Gestapo Police to be 'Insecure'! Great!!!
