One way to bypass that, is cam-lobe v-gating...or...ablative fielding by shaping the magnets physically to create field-slipping (or in fact both/all). I pointed that out to Tesla and others, along with cam-lobing either the stator or rotor magnets (depending on design). Let's consider the following: Years ago, I hypothesized...on an alcohol internal combustion...let's say a 2 stroke variant, you could effectively cut down the thermal waste on the head & jug, and turn the jug into a mix of a v-gate (with cam-lobing) and power (electrical) production, depending on the design of the v-gate track/rail. In that way, you could reclaim some small horsepower from ring & crank bearing friction, passing it instead as a loss, to the electrical power production side of it. With the v-gate design, you are then requiring less fuel (and the fuel being alcohol burning much cooler) to do double duty: torque/rpm + electrical power production in a more 3 dimensional form factor, with lower losses.
