Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman, Alan Arkin and Jude Law star in this engrossing sci-fi thriller about an all-too-human man who dares to defy a system obsessed with genetic perfection. Hawke stars as Vincent, an "In-Valid" who assumes the identity of a member of the genetic elite to pursue his goal of traveling into space with the Gattaca Aerospace Corporation. However, a week before his mission, a murder marks Vincent as a suspect. Watched this for my Biology class... in 1997. I watched this movie in theaters. I was 17 years old and I loved this movie with all my heart. I’m reading the comments and it warms my heart and I find surprising that biology teachers keep recommneding this movie. As a big sci-fi amd fantasy nerd this movie is one of my favorites of all time.

My favorite film. I never leave RU-vid comments but feel so strongly about it that I decided to just for this. Love seeing I am not alone in my love it here. Agree with everyone: Did not get the praise it deserved in 1997 when release.

If you are a bossa nova fan of the classic 50s and 60s Jazz bossa age, This film gives tribute to the style look, sound and sophisticated Vintage feel of the Space Age. With Joao Gilberto's song Samba De Pergunta ( Astronauta ) also Os Cariocas has the same song. Don't forget Jude Law was in it as the Real Jerome Morrow, and did a Timeless Classic with Talented Mr. Ripley a couple of years later which also covered the 50s to the early 60s Jazz Age and Vintage beaty of it all. Gattaca is Top Notch and Everything about it is Classic and sophisticated and serene. Ethan Hawke is a great performer along with Uma before she even did Kill Bill.

I once thought the dr was his dad, because at the end i thought the dr was referencing Vincent, the story of the dr son and vincent is almost identical.

@@sepirocth that's why the doctor helps vincent out. as the doc says, "there's no telling what he might be able to do." referring to his kid but as he pushes through vincents fake piss through the system. Consciously helping vincent even though vincent is unaware at the time. Doc knows someone may help his kid in the future.//at least that is my take

The fact that so many people want the trailer for a simplistic, not at all intellectually challenging film like Venom 2, says a lot about cinema today, because no Marvel movie can ever reach the brilliance of this masterpiece.

I wanted to ask, if someone were to rub themselves like that to get rid of dead skin, would it be damaging to the dermis as well, not just the epidermis? And also, what about the hair follicles that the brush is forcefully removing, isnt that dangerous since it leaves so many gaps where the follicles have been, that germs can easily go through and reach the dermis and potentially even hypodermis. Thanks.

read up about dry brushing. physical exfoliating with a brush or another abrasive material is common and some say even healthy. regardless, i don't think vincent would have cared if it was unhealthy long term. he was just trying to reach his goal of going to space with no regard for the consequences afterward.

Ahhh, But it is. Most just don't know it yet. The future is here sir. Crispr is a gene sequencing process and technology. We have gene editing and have the ability to see what is defective ahead of time. Designer babies are most certainly a thing. Cloning is talked about in detail in a different movie called the boys from brazil. About Nazis cloning humans. The future will have all kinds of surprises that they have ALREADY shown us. Like Gattaca.

@@anubisizzy I wanted to see what he would be doing on Titan. He said maybe he was going home; if that's how he truly felt, then I would want to see what he would do to make that his new home. He cheated his way to get on that shuttle, so did his body give out at some point or did he actually make it? Does he decide to come back? I was sold on the story and sold on the characters. To me it's worth finding out what happened.
