Finding the right controller for your model railway is important, as it can significantly affect your enjoyment factor. While I was getting adequate performance with my Hornby controllers, I decided to purchase two Gaugemaster Combi controllers, as Gaugemaster is considered among the best brands for model train controllers. Here's my review of two Gaugemaster Combi controllers, from unboxing to performance testing.

Nice video and good review. I also have this GM Combi controller (also from Hatton's, don't you know) and like you, I was impressed from the moment I took it out of the box ... a really nice analogue controller and not too costly. Thanks for sharing. :)

Thanks David! Indeed a great controller to even have as a spare when required. I might pick up a third one and keep for that purpose.

Thanks James! You'll be very happy with your controllers when you get them and hook them up. Don't forget to send in your details to Gaugemaster and register for the warranty once you receive your controllers. I reached out to them and asked if I could do this, living in Sri Lanka and they responded positively.

Fantastic review! I'm getting back into the hobby after forty or so years. I'm salvaging what I can from our old family 00-gauge layout to build a continuous run layout and a shelf layout for my Dad. I need new analogue controllers and, after watching this, I've found the one I'm looking for. Thank you once again for your help. Happy modeling, my friend!

That's great! Wish you all the best with your layout, and Gaugemaster controls won't let you down. Glad you found my review useful, and looking forward to seeing your new layouts.

My pleasure, Tony! Hope you enjoy it. So far, mine are working a treat and I find the rolling stock seems to be 'happier' as well - no untoward hums or signs of distress.

Looks great. I watched a vid on one of the other GM controllers (a bigger and more expensive one!) but as a relative newcomer to the hobby I was interested in this smaller (and cheaper!) version. I'll definitely pick one up. Thanks for the review

You're welcome! It's a great controller for newcomers and seasoned enthusiasts alike. You'll definitely enjoy the degree of control it grants, especially at slower speeds. Being quite lightweight you can even tuck it out of sight when not in use, just ensure that you've got enough slack in the cables to do that. Good luck!

Wonderful performance, can you use it in the united states with an american power supply?

I'm not aware of Gaugemaster making a 120v adaptor for their controllers. I've checked the relevant section of their website but couldn't find anything that accepts a 120v AC input. Perhaps try contacting them - I've found them to be quite responsive via FB Messenger. Otherwise, you will need a step-up transformer to step up 120v AC to 220/240v AC if you want a Gaugemaster device. Alternatively, MRC make some nice controllers which can accept 120v AC. In fact, the MRC Tech7 Ampac 780 was my second choice if I wasn't able to get a Gaugemaster for my layout, due to its good reviews.
