The idea that I had in my head (I really hope this would be the case after what she did for Jed) is that she's a dream specifically to help children who are going through a trauma. In a way, giving them hope that there's something better for them out there?? I think it'd be a sweet idea 😊
@8 bit synth He's wise in a lot of ways and misguided, petty, or straight-up foolish in others, just like humans are/can be. That's like the whole point. And just like humans he can and does change and grow while still making all kinds of mistakes.
I really love how they demonstrate that Morpheus is learning and becoming more. I was so sad that a nightmare who was giving sweet dreams would be punished for going against her programming so to speak. It was a lovely surprise for him to remake her as she wanted. In the end even though he feels...trapped in his role, he too is understanding, he can be more with his subjects
@@jeremiahmiller6431 the second Dream after Morpheus when someone finds out the old spell books to capture Dream from the Wizards house. Little young dream is like Brothers, Sisters Please Help! And all Seven Endless arrive. Morpheus never asked for help from his siblings out of pride. New Dream immediately asked for help and they all arrived. Desire: Is like Who shall get started first on this mortal who dare try to harm our little brother. Destiny: Sister Death shall go last. Despair is going first. Delerium: hmm what about my placement in this order or some such Destruction: You can intrude at any place you want sister. But just leave some for the rest of us. Desire: I completely agree. Leave me a piece dear sister.
@@jahanavijodha9301 What is death to one of the Endless? Can a fundamental part of Creation die? Who would have the power, or the purpose, to see it done? All I can say is this: watch and find out. And at the end, there must always be a Dream.
Hear, hear. Wonderful committed cast, gorgeous design. Gaiman, cast and crew can be very proud. IMO Tom Sturridge is perfection as Morpheus. Bring on Season 2!
I love Dream's character development in this story. It's really something of a redemption arc for him, especially when we're shown so many small moments that hint to how cruel and arrogant he was prior to his imprisonment, no better (and possibly even worse) than Desire. While I'd hesitate to call him "Good", he's definitely learned to be more compassionate, humble, and understanding.
I wouldn’t say he’s a complete dick more like someone who spent 4 billions years doing his job, especially when he failed to do his job once before causing a whole universe to die
It is also believable. Just because a person learns that they were a shit person doesn't mean they would or even could flip completely around overnight. You have to space it out and change at a level that can be maintained or you will burn out and revert.
Have you read the comics? If not I really recommend them and you hit the nail on the head, it's a recurring joke in the comics with Dream denying he is anything like Desire and the characters just rolling their eyes and saying "if you say so"
Maybe simply kindness. She saw how dreadful Jed's situation was and saw a little kid coping as a superhero in his only safe place: his dreams. So instead of frightening him to teach a lesson about fears, she wanted to inspire him by creating silly enemies for he to fight and win. Plus, she knew exactly the perfect form to appear as a dream: his mother.
I love the fact that a nightmare can become a dream... and in that itself seems to be a promotion of possibilities. This was a beautiful show... and now I want Season 2!! 🦋
FYI Gault’s original purpose as a nightmare was to shapeshift. She filled the role of making the dreamer uncomfortable at encountering someone familiar but acting like a different person. One might imagine to make people confront that others have sides we don’t see. It’s easy to guess she kept visiting Jed because none of the adults around him were acting as he expected they should, being parents and guardians. But Gault couldn’t take seeing Jed tortured and used her natural powers in the Dreaming to create a world that defied his expectations on the other direction. It feels as if her role as a dream would be to provide people with different but better ways to see others and themselves.
Without nightmares we wouldn’t learn how to face our fears. We wouldn’t learn how to be bold and brave. I get the Gault hate being a nightmare because she must have felt that everyone hate her or despised her because she’s a nightmare. She must have felt depressed for so long and being in Jed Walkers dream, she saw the beauty and wonders of what people can do in their dreams. I’m Happy that Dream gave Gault a second chance and make her be a beautiful inspirational dream. Plus, I love how he kept her old appearance but just added wings. It’s perfect because I thought she’s beautiful when they first mention her.
I like to think there's a certain symbolism to Gault's transformation from nightmare into dream. Sometimes, especially as we grow older, the things that once frightened us can one day inspire us and turn into something beautiful and wondrous to behold
As human beings, our nightmares are fueled by fear, doubt and insecurities but little do our nightmares know is our humanistic ability to adapt, grow and change. Our fears can strengthen us, repair us and rebuild us. We can learn from our fears and become a better version of ourselves to dream a better, brighter hope for a beautiful tomorrow. Dream big and dream wide all of you. Goodnight.
I thought Gault's character would have served more purpose if Jed's foster life had been as horrible as it was in the novels, and if she was made to reveal or show more of a nightmarish quality on the show, but after all of the terrible things that happened, her remaking was a truly welcome sight
Yeah, in the comic, he's locked in the basement and beaten up. His dreams are so easy to control by Brute and Glob because he wants to stay in the Dreaming (or Brute and Glob's land of adventure) because anywhere is better than the basement.
24/7 also had the horror turned down to a 4 and it was perfect-things can still be awful without going into exploitative territory. Im very thankful they didn’t go there.
I think they portrayed how hellish his life was with his foster parents just fine. And he *was* locked in the basement as well as a trunk and threatened pretty much daily. We don’t need to see graphic violence for them to show us his abusive home life.
@@Damodred_Heiress I don't think they needed to show graphic violence either, just a stronger desperation for Jed to hope in his dreams than in real life. Yes, he's in a horrible state, but in the novels even his visual environment seems much more horrific, and both his "foster parents" are nasty creatures. Here he's even able to escape in the beginning, and he could still hope that his aunt do the right thing and free him. Even his uncle in the series could (almost!) be reasonable. I just feel that they needed to have his situation look more dire to have Gault's compassion and motherliness for Jed, as a nightmare who recognizes the truly scary situation he's in, be even more heartrending.
@@gateauxq4604 They took a lot out of 24/7, true, but I think it was still very effective for sure. Jed's arc just needed a bit more of a sharper edge.
Gault’s actress captured SO much joy in her facial expressions in just a few short seconds, that’s some of the best acting I’ve seen in a long time - and the number of times I’ve had to say that about a performance is Sandman is getting very large!
Really love this change from the comics. The way I had the biggest smile on my face when I saw Gault as she always wanted to be and seeing the joy on her face. May she inspire millions of dreams
@@jamestopoleski9255 At the rate this show going, probably a few more seasons before getting to The Kindly Ones arc. Assuming Netflix is making more seasons.
This scene proves that even a scary nightmare can be a beautiful dream. Still, I feel Gault that she protected Jed from his abusive foster parents which was the right thing to do for him, and she did that of her free will, and Morpheus learned that lesson from both Lucienne and Gault, and now, he started to understand his subjects very well like a true king should do during his reign. I'm so happy that Gault has finally became a dream to inspire other dreamers so good for her!
Morpheus speaks for wounded extroverts and introverts alike, it's ok to have solitude but don't forget, if you need help it's ok to ask and if you have a support network already you can be a better you and thus conversely contribute more to that network or as the perfect addage for this goes, "Teamwork makes the Dream work" 😊
i love the detail in gaults first dream sequence that it turns into a nightmare the second something happens to slip her up. a testament to the sheer amount of effort she was putting into being a dream. Now she might find it easier.
Gault spoke truth to power and was punished, but power recognized their error. It's good Gault was rewarded for their boldness and sticking to their guns.
The new version of Gault actually resembles Black Orchid, the main character in the first DC comic written by Neil Gaiman. And that may not be a coincidence
This is that gorgeous Goddess from the hits series called Krypton. I forget her name but she is the mother of Layla Zod. Her son or rather grandson Drewzat is actually General Zod. This show is a prequel to Superman specifically about the story of Superman‘s grandfather. It also shows how this series Superman and General Zod are related by blood. This goddess is gorgeous and I’m happy to see her in more prominent rolls.
Can't wait to see what the other new dreams & nightmares look like once he's finished making them, bet they're gonna be quite the squad. I even wonder if those larger figures in the water are part of his new dream squad to
You couldn't be more right. It´s a shame that have chances to be cancelled in season 2, like MAJORITY of netflix shows. This company deserves to be buyed by a big company, like mycrosoft, because have potential their shows.
I love this scene! She's so happy! This is truly a wonderful, beautiful moment. And I truly enjoy watching Dream as he forms a new creation and brings her to life.
That's beautiful. I'm tearing up. Lots of us would like to evolve. With such as myself, there are some rough, slow, painful spots. But it is possible. Keep dreaming, folks. Always, keep dreaming. Just remember to sweat, at least as much as you dream.
Gault was meant to be a nightmare. Dream erased her cause she wasn’t doing what was in her job description. But lucky he developed a conscious and resurrected her from a nightmare to a dream. A beautiful one at that with wings.
This was one of my favourite scenes from the series (made even moreso as Gault was also new to people who had read the comics), and it also brings up the question of whether (or when, PLEASE) Gregory can also be remade... is that wire-frame in the background a gloriously gorgeous gargoyle (see what I did there, Cain!) in waiting? Neil and Morpheus, please let it be so - Goldie needs his big brother, and so do we.
I love this scene because of Dream's character development. From the start of the season he was cold and unfeeling, but once the second half begins he starts to learn and by this scene, he's acting more human than he was before. His change of time in his voice, the slight smile he had, they point to a different Dream that isn't the same that we saw at the start
This series has the best char dev to offer, every single characters could have an epic journey of their own spin-off. Lit🔥 even the 2 ravens (Matthew and J--*forget the name*)
I think the whole Arc and journey of Dream made him more compassionate and understanding of his servants and creations. Also, I would like to believe that going forward, he will speak/reason/explain the reason of a Nightmare and what they do will be seen by most sentient creatures as bad, but that doesnt mean that the Nightmare themselves are bad. They fulfill a purpose, they make others face their fears, they instill somekind of caution but that doesnt make them all they are and can ask for change once they have made their purpose for a long time, just like Gault. Is almost like the Wreck It Ralph type, sure there are villains but they are more than that and they are ok with it.
@@murunjargalsaikhan7227 nightmares reveal people's fears so that they can face them. Dreams were never directly explained but based on what happened when John Dee took the Ruby, I'd say they give people hope and inspiration.
A while ago i saw this clip pop up and i hadn't yet finished the series. When I read the title i read it as "Gault reincarnated as Dream". I got so pissed bc i thought I read a spoiler that somehow dream was replaced as a twist ending or something lmao. kicked myself when i did watch the end for not reading titles of videos properly
I don't remember ever having good or bad dreams. When I feel sleepy close my eyes have the impression that a few minutes have passed open my eyes morning it's a new day I dream absolutely nothing.
Gault struck such a cord with me despite hacking so little screen time. I was almost in tears when Morpheus remade her into a dream. She absolutely deserves the best. ❤️
In this scene I thought Niel would incorporate a recent, new nightmare, based off recent nightmares like slanderman or siren-head. That would've been neat.
would you rather have a nightmare that's evil and enjoys the suffering inflicted, or a nightmare that wants good things for you. making her a dream fixes nothing and is in fact egotistical.
