Not a big fan of comparing, but if I had to choose, it's Gavin all the way. No one is as versiatle, no one is as co-ordinated and no one's got that perfect rythmic understanding and feel that Gavin so gracefully puts into a drumset. I'm not saying he's the best in the world, cause there is no such thing. But he is a LEGEND!

Gavin Harrison and Guthrie Govan are two of the most musically articulate as well as speech articulate musicians I have ever heard. It`s a joy just to listen to them speaking.

It's critically important for all young musicians to learn how to read. There are many accounts of how Buddy Rich could not read until very late in his career.

Then why is it so important? Buddy Rich was the greatest of all time and, as you say, he did the majority of his work without knowing how to read music. In my opinion, a good ear is far more valuable than knowing how to read sheet music

@@eligiolThat might be a fair crit. Buddy seemed more into flash and dash than the music. A real entertainer, but technically brilliant.

I was wondering where the electronic drums are hidden. That's how good Gavin is. It took me 2 minutes to realize hes locking in perfectly with the electronic background music

Maybe you don't know but Gavin has been playing so much in Italy with many artist and singers such as Claudio Baglioni, Fiorella Mannoia, Eugenio Finardi, Alice, Raf etc. An honour for me, as italian, … because he is my favourite drummer! ;)

I really like his drumming style. Very versatile. It must come from the jazz influence and all the different types of music he dove into. Listening to American jazz drumming rather than British might explain why Phil Collins was not mentioned as an influence, cuz I hear a lot of Collins style in there. Phil played fusion and R&B so also was quite versatile. It is great that Gavin learned to read charts at an early age. That discipline forms a rock solid base. Love his work with Porcupine Tree.

What an amazing work ethic he has! I have a lot of respect for his willingness to play whatever he could play in order to be a professional, rather than thinking of himself as an artíste.

Gavin is playing to an early 80's Paiste demo written by Toto's David Paich and Jeff Porcaro the greatest groove sticksman ever. The guy clearly has taste as well as talent!

im 14 and my main inspirations are gavin harrison, mike portnoy, nico mcbrain, chris adler and danny carey. these drummers have relay inspired me to start using the bell of my ride more and get more technical and not whack the fuck out of my drums as it is not relay needed. all you need to make a good beat is sole and emotion is playing.

Careful, hold on tight, you are entering a zone where someone actually plays MUSIC on the drums. I think you better go clean the shit out of your ears and give it another listen. Oh, and you ever bring up travis barker's name on another Gavin Harrison video, Chuck Norris will show up at your house and smash your face into the toilet!! lol
