This video I am going to mod the Game Boy Advance with a monochrome LCD (downgrade from the original TFT color screen). This is a free and open source project with full source available at github.com/zephray/GbaStnMod
Great explanation, I have no background knowledge with hardware or IC but I was able to follow along. I wanted to see the contrast adjustment feature demonstrated!
Unfortunately there is no simple answer for this. But roughly, there are finite number of screen protocols out there, the general approach is always: power/ drive screens with datasheet/ example code available to learn the protocol, then apply that to other screens you find at random places
This is pretty cool. Would it be possible to mod a normal gameboy with an e-ink display? I figure you are the best person to ask given your other projects shown in this channel.
Only if there exists e-ink display with suitable dimension and resolution. AFAIK there is none. Theoretically it's possible for someone to pour tons of money to build such an e-ink screen that would fit in GameBoy/ GBA with the right resolution, but I don't see how anyone would do it...
Would you be able to make a mod for the gba similar to this one to allow for an oled screen instead? Theoretically you could get a longer battery life out of it than with the original screen+backlight
