I see some Germans claim Gdansk belong to Germany. For those or any who has doubts about who this city belongs to lets look at the facts : 711 out of 1021 years of Its history Gdansk was a POLISH city or under POLISH protectorate. 997-1227: Polish Kingdom 1227-1294: Principality of Pomerania POL 1294-1308: Principality of Cracowia POL 1308-1454: Teutonic Order 1454-1466: Thirteen Years War ( Teutonic Orders vs Kingdom of Poland) 1466-1569: Kingdom of Poland 1569-1793: Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth 1793-1807: Kingdom of Prussia 1807-1814: Free city 1815-1871: Kingdom of Prussia 1871-1918: Holy German Empire 1918-1920: Weimar Republic 1920-1939: Free City 1939-1945: German Reich 1945-present Republic of Poland

Not quite true. The idea was to eventually integrate the Polish population into Germany like previously when Poland was partioned by Prussia, Austria and Russia in 1795.

Robert S hahaha okay. That's why they murdered 6 million Poles. Poland did not ask to be part of Germany and wanted to be independent. Germany should focus on protecting their women from migrants and leave Polish land alone.

The Polish ethnically cleansed 14 million Germans from eastern Germany. 2,5 million mostly women, children and elderly eastern Germans were killed. 1/3 of Poland today is actually historically eastern Germany.

The city is legally Polish, but was built by Germans, like all the other beautiful towns like Stettin, Breslau or Krakau. Danzig has great resemblance with Amsterdam and Antwerp, because many architects came from the Low Countries during the heydays of Danzig.I’m Dutch myself and I was amazed when earlier tonight I entered the city for the first time. “This is Amsterdam without the canals!” was my first thought.
@janhulst8189
@janhulst8189 5 лет назад
Just add this: I am pro-European and hence pro-Polish and pro-German. I’m very positive about Polish and Easter European contribution to the protection of the European heritage. In hindsight there were some advantages after all of being a member of the Soviet rather than American empire. But we have got to give credit where credit is due, most of Danzig/Gdansk was built by Germans. It is saddening that many German cities were like that and got destroyed. For the rest I am looking forward to a European future with Germans and Poles. Together we have the ability to become the next #1, now that the American empire is almost over. We will be the next #1. Who else?
@orfyreus1961

@@janhulst8189 You should read history of that city! Until 1772 ( first partition of Poland) Gdańsk blelnged to Poland! So, saying that Gdańsk was built by Germans, is totally misunderstanding. Besides, during last WW2 The city was destroyed in 70%. Poles rebuilt this city. Once, Gdańsk belonged to Prussia, but is it mean that it was prussian city? Warsaw belonged to Russia for 123 years! is it mean that our capital city was built by russians?

Basically Stettin is German but Wroclaw Gdańsk and krakow are polish. Krakow is 100% polish no doubt. Gdańsk was only for 150 years German (not counting period of time when whole Poland was separated between Germany Russia and Austria.). It’s really simple why it looks like Amsterdam. Gdańsk was really rich and we were able just to have Dutch people worked for us. Also as I remember u were very damaged by the ,,war” between Christianity and Protestantism. That’s reason why there were Dutch in Poland. In Gdańsk there is a architecture tipical for cities that were considered to hansa just like Stockholm or Amsterdam. Wroclaw (idk German name) is both German and polish. It was for 350 years (during Middle Ages ) polish so gothic buildings are polish. Then it was for 200 years Czech and for next 200 years Austrian. After that it was German till the end of Second World War. Romanistic and gothic buildings in Wroclaw are polish (some of them Czech) and baroque and renaissance in Wroclaw is Austrian or German. Stettin is fully German Wroclaw just partly but Gdańsk and krakow at all bro
