This radio came out in 1979 and sold at discount stores nationwide for a whopping $9.99 ($39.56 today). I just got mine at Goodwill for 42 cents. The battery in it that expired in 2012 still worked.
Thank you. Nice review. My first transistor radio was a 7 transistor GM Sportsman. Black with gold trim. A fantastic radio. Got it in 1960. Great memories, listening to all those 50,000 watt stations through the night.
Your Welcome, I appreciate these radios. My fond memories is of a little orange AM radio I had as a child in the 70s. Listening to classical music during the day was my thing.
Hello, thank you for your reply to my comment. I have been a huge fan of AM radio from age two, right up to the present day. I have many memories, and concerns to share. I could talk about broadcast radio stations all day long. Please send me an e mail at : dean_sundown@hotmail.com I appreciate your videos. Thank you, Dean.
You are on a roll with Ebay! Another really good find in excellent condition. I think you are getting these at bargain prices, especially considering the quality of the radios when they arrive. Thanks for the great reviews.
Your Welcome Roy, I've have a few lemons that you don't see in the background. Going to save them up for possible future repair or resale. Recapping sometimes helps. I've also put a limit on how far back I want to acquire something. Sticking to the early to mid 70's and above if possible. I've taking a liking to the Magnavox, GE, and Realistic brands and am actively looking for example radios to review.
Sweet, my wife surprised me with a bag of beat up radios from goodwill. She was proud that they cost her only $11 total...The coolest item is a Dream Machine clock radio from the 80s...its a beige color. There is a portable GE, but boy is it beat, I have to find an antenna for it ;)
@@gunner6639You probably have a good wife also. She just doesn't understand what you'll do with a bunch of old radios. Tell her you're going to put them all on together and have a dance party with her.
Wow, I wonder if this GE gets enough AM stations! :-) GE put out an amazing number of cool portable radios in their heyday. Congrats on this catch! -Chuck
Thank you Igor. It's a great little radio. Did you watch the Lucky "777"? That one found tons of MW stations...I labeled them all. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JM4t-3R2f7s.html
todderbert thanks. Gonna watch it later. 21st censury, but radio is still the king of media (though in Russia we have only one good station with classic rock, the others are stupid pop).
I just got one from EBay. Very clean no box. I watched this video first. Thanks you Sir. The B version I assume is the second version of this series?💯💯
Another vintage radio 📻, although it's only FM. I've seen 👀"Thong", on these before. Words back then, we're more primitive, not 👎 dual-purpose, as they are today. Nowadays 👎, the carrying thong is a "lariat", or a "lanyard", or simply, a "carrying strap". I'm not 👎 sure of the capacitors in this, but you've probably replaced them. Another very nice radio 📻 to display around the house 🏠. Your friend, Jeff.
This radio has AM. I did not change the capacitors yet on this one. Panasonics as well as GEs are great for running a very long time without much maintenance.
