General Electric's 44 ton model was targeted at Class 1 railroads with a view to reducing crew size on branchlines and small switching operations. According to then-current labor agreements, 44 tons was the maximum weight for a locomotive to operate without a fireman. Many were either purchased new or found their way onto various shortline railroads and tourist operations. Herewith, a compendium of "Tonners" operating in both freight and passenger service, rounded out by the inclusion of a much larger 132 ton GE Cooper-Bessemer powered streamlined unit on the Wellsville, Addison & Galeton, originally built for Ford Motor Co.

2:41 Arcade & Attica! That railroad is special to me as it was the first I ever rode on as a passenger. Wonderful to see several tracks/sidings that used to be there!

Thanks for the WAG footage! At the Genesee, PA, station which still stands.

Thanks, didn't know the location. This video was originally just 44 tonners, but while scanning a new film acquisition I came across the WAG and just had to add it in. The audio came from a pair of M&ET 70 tonners which had similar diesels, thus simulating the twins in the WAG unit.

great to see vintage Arcade & Attica footage, except for the vintage automobiles it really hasn't changed much there!

We seniors like to see the older stuff. The buildings are classier (not so square and purely functional) and you very seldom see the center cabs (many have never seen them). That Olds F-85 could have been powered by a turbo'd v-8 and off course, steam engines never get old. Great video.

I used to operate one back in 70's and 80's . Decent units, pull harder than you'd think. Traded the off for some SW1500 and regrated it.

A lot of the films I purchased on ebay or from private collections. I also got a lot of outtakes from Walt Berko of Railroad Video that he transferred years ago but didn't use all or only portions in his own productions. For every minute you see on my channel there's probably 10 minutes of material still waiting to be produced. Unfortunately a lot of it is trolleys which are not my primary field of interest.

My mom rode the Philly trolleys a lot in her youth, back when her dad was still alive. Would like to see the Trolleys when you find the time. A by-gone time for sure.

What a lovely collection of "snippets" of 'old' colour pieces of film now saved, so as the younger ones amongst us can actually see these loco's in action. You can tell it's all old and not filmed yesterday - nothing has graffiti all over it, - including the buildings. I really enjoyed it, Good Video. - The Internet does have it's good points and this is an example, - Well Done.
