GE stereos from this era has awesome sound quality. My parents 1974 GE quad system didn't sound as good as this.

Very nice console. I collect GE table radios from the late 50's, mostly the Musaphonic models. The Musaphonic table radio sets were well engineered and can really pull in the stations both on AM and FM. I'm sure their consoles were also well designed.

Very nice job restoring this GE. Have you opened up the speaker cabinets? My neighbor had one like this but slightly different. The head unit was a little different in color, and the turntable tone arm had a chrome counter weight and a round control knob. I always wondered what was in the speaker cabinets. He said there were 3 speakers in each side.

Beautiful stereo! I just picked up a very similar unit and am in the process of restoring it as well. Do you happen to know where I could find some wiring schematics? Thanks!!!

So are the speakers a one unit 12" tri-axle or are the mid/tweeters mounted on the wood panel in front of the 12" speaker. My neighbors had a label on the back of his that read something to the effect of "acoustically sonic speaker enclosure" with an ambiguous diagram. I wonder if you could make a video showing the internals of the speaker cabinets? Sorry for asking for such a detailed answer. I'm very interested in these GE consoles. Thanx ; )

Interesting. I recently inherited a GE console stereo roughly about the same age (probably a little lower end than this) I’m interested in seeing if I can get one of those PortaFi speakers working with it.

Hi there! Great video, and great restoration! I'm about to get my hands on this exact unit, and I'd love to learn more about your restoration process in order to get mine up and running. Could you elaborate a bit on what, if any, issues you ran into? How did you solve them, especially in regards to the turntable? Thanks in advance!

I have a similar model and having issues with the power switch for the record player after moving it.. I’m thinking something popped off.. when I flip the switch up to power the turntable on, I can’t ‘feel’ the switch working.. any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!

What size are its speakers? I saw one at Thrift Nation in Middleburg Heights Ohio, wonder if it is still there? Looks like GE's best turntable.

I have this exact console. I hooked it up to my DVD player, and was using it as the audio out. Last night it just stopped all audio out. All the lights still work, the turn table still turns, but no matter what no audio. I checked the connections inside and cleaned the contacts on the speaker select switch, and still nothing. I may be on the wrong track but, I was thinking it is either the capacitor or a fuse. Not sure where the fuses are located on the amp. Any thoughts?

I just bought a very similar GE porta-fi unit at an estate sale. Tuner works fine but the turntable doesn't work. I'd like to refurb the entire unit. Any suggestions on where to find wiring diagrams or instructions would be much appreciated!

I have the same porta-fi unit. Unfortunately a mouse cut the cord that is part of the tuning dial and I am having a heck of a time trying to figure out how the cord wraps around the different wheels. Did you have this issue in your restoration? Any ideas you can pass on would be greatly appreciated.

I have these same exact units in a slightly different case. I am trying to find out which cartridge(s) I need to look at to replace the old one. The current head says "Tonal 1". I could have sworn that it was a head that flipped and had two sides, but as of late, I have not been able to get it to do the flip and it appears that someone stole my cartridge or it fell out at some point during our recent move. Any recommendations on which cartridge to get as a replacement?

I'm having the same issue with mine. Were you able to find any solutions?

@@alextropp3274 I brought my turn table in for repair. It cost $100. The grease siezed up everything. The motor was burnt out. The motor got replaced and everything got fresh grease. Works like a charm.

I just bought the same electronics in different cabinet, having trouble getting the turntable started but mine seems to be missing the black apparatus yours has at the top of the spindle for holding the records, happen to know if it's required equipment?

NM, that's just the 45 adapter isn't it?
