GE Dryer Grinding Noise - Bobby Pin / Hairpin Removal

I came home from work to find my GE Dryer was making a grinding noise when it was turned on. After taking the top off, I was able to identify the culprit - a Bobby Pin. This video shows how to take the top off a GE Dryer model gtd42gasj2ww and removal off the Bobby / hair pin.

Thank you. Every video said 3 screws only and slide to the left. I knew there were more screws but didnt known where to slide it. Mission complete.

You are a godsend! Am not the handiest of guys, so in an effort to avoid an expensive technician, searched RU-vid for help when our GE dryer started making a horrible grinding noise. Luckily found your video and easily disassembled it to find a bobby pin in the exact location as yours! Thanks so much.

This video saved me so much time and money!! I was prepared to replace a drum bearing but couldn't find a video on how to take apart my exact dryer. Turns out I had a drywall screw stuck between the drum. I would have never even checked (or gotten my dryer apart!) had it not been for this bobby pin video!!! THANK YOU!!

This video saved me so much money! Thank you so much! I was able to fix it all by myself and it was surprisingly easy! I had to take mine apart like you and found the culprit (a metal aglet from sweatpants) lodged soo tightly in there! I had to use pliers to pull it out.

This video saved me some $$. I took mine apart just like you showed cause I had a similar grinding noise. Turns out an aglet got wedged in between the rotating drum and metal. Took me about 30 minutes to fix after watching your video. No more grinding noise. You rock!

Dude! Thank you so much for the video. When I heard that noise I was like "hell no". Then I found your video and popped open the top and bingo! A darn washer was stuck in the drum. Good stuff. Even got a chance to clean a very dirty lint trap.

Great video, mine was a bobby pin, too. However, quick FYI for everyone out there with a similar problem: I didn't take anything apart, I just reached inside and grabbed the drum by a fin and shook it vigorously while spinning it a little. The bobby pin popped right out from wherever it was hiding.

I was stymied on how to remove the console on your model which looks the same as my newer model and it's obviously critical to getting the top of the cabinet open. I've seen no other videos with this exact model with the one piece console and there are NOT 3 screws at the back of this console that need to be removed. To remove "this" console, first remove the 2 screws on both sides of the console that the video shows. Then from the front push the console firmly towards the rear about an inch or so which will disengage the tabs on the front on the console and allow it to be lifted clear. This will expose 2 screws, one on each side at the rear of the main top that when removed will allow the rear of the lid to lift. The video shows these two points. The front is the same as the video. In my case once the main top was lifted, it exposed 2 screws on either side at the top front of the assembly that when removed, allows the door panel to come free. That was when the zipper pull fell into the dryer which had evidently been jammed along the front drum edge which had been making the same type noise as the bobby pin. Excellent video idea as this style model is prone to catching items on the front edge of the drum causing noise.
