My wife said the dryer wasn’t heating so I finally found out how to change the element on our Samsung which we had for approximately 11 years. Once I replaced it & put everything back together, I heard a tumbling noise and my wife said I knew we should’ve called a technician. Broke my heart 😿. But I took it apart 4 times before I found your video & it looks like the idler pulley is damaged. I’m determined to repair this myself and restore my dignity 👍🏾
This was the MOST detailed video I found. Towards the beginning of each of the reasons/fixes he references the noise that the dryer would make. I found that helpful and am currently working through these steps on my dryer. If you're not sure what squealing/squeaking/grinding sounds like... I'd just google it (that's what I did). Hope this helps a bit. Good luck! :)
I agree regarding the noise sample. My dryer was making a thumping noise so I replaced the drum support rollers. Since I was in there, I felt it made sense to change the pulley wheel and belt. I cleaned dust and lint from the inside. Thumping noise is gone but now it just sounds extremely loud. It works do I feel confident regarding the repair but the loud operation is worse than the thumping.
Literally, one week ago, I purchased thermal fuse and door latch on a Thursday morning, received both OEM items the NEXT morning (Friday). Followed your easy videos, and took care of both issues in less than fifteen minutes, including vacuuming up dust and lint. EDIT to add: Our dryer is a 20-year old Kenmore. This was the first year we ever had to replace parts.
Before you start replacing parts, it might be worth taking it apart to see what's happening. I had a tiny screw stuck in the blower shroud that was just bouncing around. It's really amazing the amount of noise (rattle) that it was making.
Thanks, you gave me some things to look at. And I was able to find out what was causing the dryer to sound like it was beating itself. #3 the Idler Pulley I replaced mine last year, and it looks as if it has moved over too far towards the elbow bend in the pulley arm. I took the belt and spindle off, checked to ensure the pulley arm was not worn out, and placed everything back. Once I did, I made sure it was level and then started the dryer, and it was quiet like it was supposed to be. So, thank you for this video. Very helpful. Wayne
Wow, this was extremely informative! Now I know for sure that the sound I'm hearing is coming from the blower and I can go home and address it! Thanks!
Excellent video. I just changed the belt, idler pulley, and two rollers and vacuumed the inside. The belt was shredding and I suspect it was the cause of a rotational noise. After reassembling everything, I tested the dryer and everything works but I am still hearing a rotational noise- I hope that it's from the blower in the back. I disassembled the dryer a second time but could not determine where the sound was originating. I cleaned the lint duct housing in the back of the dryer in 2020 and it was pretty full. I'm awaiting two foam seals to arrive before reopening the back of the dryer. And I hope that the source of the new noise is in the back of the dryer. This dryer is a 22-year-old Whirlpool Commercial which was purchased in a set from Lowe's for residential use. I would like to keep it running as it's uncomplicated without all of the new electronics.
when i spin my motor (without belt) it doesn't spin for long and comes to a stop after a few rotations. when i saw this guy spin the same motor it was behaving exactly the same way, so this tells me the motor is still good. thanks for the video!
I know this is for an electric dryer but I have a gas dryer I'm imagine they run about the same. I have a Maytag centennial bought in 2016. I just started hearing the noises so it shouldn't be too bad. Thanks for the great video!
I also wish there was a sample sound video. Mine makes a noise, not sure if it’s grinding or what. It isn’t squeaking or whiny sounding, but I don’t know what it would be. We had a flood a little while back, had about 10 inches of water in basement…..lower than the door. But the dryer still works, it just makes a noise the whole time. I wish 8 could hear that same sound in one of these videos.
Good news, I think. As I mentioned before, I got the nut off the fan blower wheel, but could t get the wheel off. So I just vacuum the lint and dust and use a toothbrush. As I was doing my ast vacuum, I heard something get sucked up. So I am thinking and hoping this was the issue. I looked in the vacuum and it was either a penny or a ear ring. I think it was my wifes ear ring, because it sounded like a screw going thru the vacuum tubing. I put everything back together and let t run empty for 2 minute, but it turned off automatically. I think it does this, as it has a sensor if the clothes are not wet to stop. We are doing a load of laundry now and throwing it in the dryer, so ia m praying to the laundry gods that it works! THank you so much for your video!
This helped me so much and i got it figure out everything i needed. and your site is amazing and super easy to use. This helped me from not having a buy a new dryer!! Thanks so much!!
It would really help to actually hear the noise a bad part makes in order to figure out what part needs replacing. The high and low squaling sounds I'm sure makes a differance.
I’ve replaced the drum wheels and the belt but I’m still hearing a loud noise upon startup. I did notice that the loud sound is coming near the drive motor. Is it possible the drive shaft is making the loud noise? And btw The blower wheel is clean and undamaged
I’m going over your video now just to check up on my Maytag bravos XL. Even though it states “good airflow” I wanna check the blower for buildup, ect. What I do notice is when you manually spin the drum, there is light resistance and a low sandy, rumble sound. My guess is there fine dust, dirt, hair build up on and around the roller disc and bearings may be worn but not completely dead. I just have to find a roller and bearing kit for this model number, a “refresh kit” after 7 years of use. Other than that, dryer has zero issues. MODEL# MEDB835DW2
pencil in the blower wheel, thought it was the motor... whew.. although the whole thing is disassembled -_- shoulda checked the blower first aaaah.. such a pain to put the strap back into place...
My gas whirlpool dryer makes a high-pitched squealing sound for 10 or 20 seconds each time I start the dryer. Then the sound goes away. Is this likely to be a symptom of the motor failing or the rollers and/or pulley? Can the motor bearings be replaced? Two of the rollers, belt and pulley were replaced within the last year. The other two rollers were cleaned and seemed to be working fine. Thank you.
I have a GE stackable washer/dryer unit, my dryer makes a metal clanking noise while running. Would that be a bad rear drum bearing causing that noise?
I just clean inside my dryer & replaced my pulley, belt, & rollers because my kenmore dryer started screaming/squealing then stopped turning, it was otherwise quiet. After replacing all this it is turning again and not scream/squeal BUT now my dryer sounds like a jet engine so loud. What do I do now?
My dryer belt visibly vibrates quite rapidly. What could it be? I saw some slight wear where a little piece here and there is coming off from the side, but the belt itself appears to be in good condition.
My issue is a grinding noise that goes in a rhythmic pattern once the clothes are almost dry or are dry. The longer I wait to stop the dryer, the louder it gets. This seems to be the lower left area. Not sure if in front or back.
To add: wet and cold items makes it run without issue its when either large blanket/comforters or small light things like sheets ir only a couple of items will make it start to do this after a short while
Replaced belt, entire upper shroud with plates, rear drum bearing and support, lower felt, and entire motor assembly. It’s humming extremely loud and still making thumping noises. The only thing I didn’t change was the tensioner arm and pulley which shows no signs of issue. I’m completely lost at this point 🤷🏼♂️
@@appliancepartsprosHi, it’s the GE GTD42EASJ2WW. The noises are consistent throughout the entire cycle whether the dryer is running full or empty. I actually tilted the dryer back while it was running empty and I could see the metal bottom of the dryer flex with each thump. It looks to me like the flexing is right where the motor is mounted. I’ve gone through several belts. I notice the rubber keeps fraying off and seems to begin to melt in between the ribs not long after replacement.
@@appliancepartsprosI’m 100% positive. I pulled the drum out, checked my work and reassembled at least 4 times. Everything is installed correctly and tightly. The thumping sound was present before I replaced all those parts and it never went away. I also replaced the idler arm and pulley since I wrote my initial comment, but unfortunately there was no change. The thumping is still present. Could the drum somehow be out of round where the belt rides? The reason I ask is it seems like the motor pulley is being pulled up slightly by the belt and then released back down during the revolution, making that annoying thumping noise. I can see the bottom sheet metal of the dryer flexing with each thump. I wish I could simply blame the belt but I’m on the 3rd replacement belt now.
If you have replaced all these parts and it is still making that noise you could be having an issue with the drum. The drum could have some how gotten a dent in it or something and that could be causing the issue you have going on.
Hi, do you know where its moisture sensor is located? I have the same one as it in video with auto dry mode, but I can’t find the sensor, I bought 23 years ago. Thanks.
Last night pushed start button but like too quickly and didnt start but it felt like if the belt slipped.. and now its making lot of noise.. Its a hotpoint commercial and opened the sides to see and everything seems to be in place.. i dont understand.
The humming sound that my dryer normally makes while drying clothes, suddenly got about 25% louder yesterday. It sounds normal when the dryer first starts up, but after about 15 minutes or so then it gets louder... Any suggestions?
@@jasontodd9302 I learned that you can call a local appliance parts supply store, and describe the problem to them, and they will most likely be able to tell you what part you need. That's what I did. Actually, I called two local appliance parts stores, for a second opinion
My dryer makes a sound like coins are spinning in it. Any idea what that is? I'm going to pull it apart today to clean out the lint because now I'm worried about my house going up in flames like the dramatic footage in the video😟
Can be coins stuck under the "agitators" (not the right term) anyway anyone can fix this, just pop the top up and loosen the screws on the drum that hold the paddles that are in the dryer on then rotate by hand and coins or other debris may fall out
Can you tell where the humming is coming from? Does it do it during the whole cycle? Have you checked for any blockages or maybe something could be caught somewhere?
@@appliancepartspros It hums the whole cycle. Took it apart this weekend and only noticed one potential issue. When manually spinning the drum, I can feel and hear the belt slipping a little. Is there usually a little slippage in these things? If I replace the belt, would it be a good idea to replace the tensioner as well? Dryer is 12 years old and has never had those items replaced...
Very informative! I finally found someone who knows more than my mother-in-law. Plug i in and take it for a spin he says...lol...I threw my mother-in-law in the trunk and took her for a spin and she came out lint free....pissed but lint free. There were more wrinkles on her face than on her clothes. I would of thrown her in the washer first but the laundromat is the better option just in case she has cooties.
